Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Bummer, I wasn't banking on it, but I'd picked up PS360s for my most recent project in the hopes that would be a current gen option. I get that padhacking is a thing, but I've done it before and honestly found it more time consuming and stressful than I would like. I like design, woodwork, and basic wiring much more. So my plan moving forward is to have my sticks all just have one PCB of some type if at all possible.

I've had bad experiences with custom boards and padhacking when going to tournaments. There are so many custom boards and wiring jobs out there that it's impossible to predict how my own sticks will react when I leave the house. They all work perfect in my house, but two years straight at EVO I had problems with a few different sticks.

Going forward, I'm just going to buy stock sticks for the most part. Hoping for a fighting edge announcement for ps3/ps4, and I'll pick up a TE2.

modding your stick to be futureproof is always a good idea :) 100$ might be a lot though but if it uses a real xbone pad chip there shouldn't be any fear of Microsoft blocking it later on.

I'm waiting for a new version of a Paewang style superchip that enables all consoles with just one pcb.

The person mentioned giving me a physical switch, to change compatibility as well. Is that normal? I've never seen what a physical switch looks like, hopefully it isn't cumbersome to deal with :( Sounds like it could be pretty ghetto.

That's normal for xb1 mods with ps360.

depends on the modder's skills :D on mine i just hold R2 while connecting to boot the chipset to the desired console.

On my friend's stick it has a few of these neatly tucked away to adjust modes,

I'll probably move to some type of project box setup at some point, albeit with USB and USB decoders rather than the usual DB15 so it'd be usable by itself.

My latest purchase - not exactly an arcade stick, but close enough. :D Plus I can't resist bragging a little... Sorry for the potatocam quality though. Took the pic at night and my light sucks!

All my jelly.

How much did it cost/where did you order it, if you don't mind me asking?

Hi, guys. I'm thinking of buying an arcade stick for the Wii. The Tatsunoko one is expensive, so I'll buy the Hori one:

Arcadeshock.com has these for cheap. Does any of you guys have experience buying from this shop? I wonder if it is reliable.

I've had many great experiences buying from them, they are good peeps.

Also, nice cab Dachande! Are you going all Naomi, or sticking some other boards / 360 / Mame in there?

I'll probably swap in MAME on a PC for Naomi from time-to-time, using a JVS-PAC so I don't need to change any wiring for it. I've got that mostly sorted out but need to tweak it some more before it's properly usable. The Naomi's got more than enough stuff on it to keep me happy for the time being though.

Awesome.

Cosmic Smash and Virtua Tennis alone are enough for me to keep a naomi in there. :)

i ordered a diamond VLX from them a while back. placed the order wednesday night, received the stick friday morning.

probably the fastest i've gotten an item from anyone before.

Nice cab, i'd take a look into getting a flash card reader and rigging it up to the Naomi it's so nice.

Yep, something I might consider in the future. For now I'm fine using command line on my living room PC to transfer games across though.

I would die for a naomi 2 setup

Another thing I might consider in future too. More expensive though! But VF4FT would be so worth it...

Anyway, MAME is working now, woo! Not 100% happy with the scanline effect, but it's not a big deal...

Hey Bro, heard you like scanlines, and are using Mame to add scanlines to display on a CRT that already has scanlines...
Yeah you should have a multisync display in there iirc, as long as you can output in native res you shouldn't need to add any effect.

Scanlines shouldn't look like that. What resolution are you driving it at? It would be better to not have simulated scanlines at all.

Yeah you should have a multisync display in there iirc, as long as you can output in native res you shouldn't need to add any effect.

The monitor is 31k (i.e. roughly 640x480) only, not a tri-sync. JAMMA games (like MVS) output at a 15k resolution that my monitor can't display, and so the scanlines aren't as properly pronounced as they should be when I'm upscaling to 31k, so I'm adding an effect to make the scanlines look more as they ought to, otherwise the image is too clean. The picture doesn't show them up very well though, they look a lot better in person.

If it is 31k only then your best bet is to throw a SLG (scanline generator) along the VGA line for the lo-res stuff. It will darken the image a bit but will look much better. They are usually between $25 and $50.

Yeah, I'd be wondering what happened if you had a tri-sync in there... I've never seen a Naomi Universal with one. I'm just saying, if you are going to throw in scanlines, you should fix the display resolution issues first - MVS outputs 320x224, so you need to get a fixed multiple of that to your monitor, either by convincing your video card to output 640x448, or having MAME present that resolution with letterboxing. If you can't do either, the scaled image without scanlines is better than introducing scanlines that don't actually match the scanlines of your display.

There isn't really anything a hardware SLG does that MAME can't do on its own. He just has to fix the display issues first; putting an SLG on it without doing that will cause a slightly different looking mess to the one he has right now.

Ahh.. I naively assumed it was a trisync. I also assumed Mame would do a better job converting those 15khz games to the 31khz input on your monitor chassis.

Amazon now says September 30 for Real Arcade Pro V4 Hayabusa instead of August 15...

Excellent. The longer these releases take, the more time for other stick announcements to be made in japan so I don't buy something I don't really want due to lack of options. :P

Would it be possible for me to open up a Wii Classic Controller (Pro), take the PCB out, and mod it into one of my existing sticks? Have both a PS360 PCB and a Wii one in the same body, connected to the same buttons and stick?

I'd rather not have to buy a Wii Stick and I'd rather be able to do this with one of my Hori sticks.

is there any way to get a hori vlx (or even better just the case) in eu?
i´ve been looking at ebay prices for some months ... they are way overpriced with abnormal shipping :(

Does the Qanba Q4 work on the ps4? I'm picking one up on Thursday for Ultra on PC and Purse Owner 4 Arena but want to know if it'll work on Ps4 for Ultra.

The only stick for the ps4 is the Hori one we're talking about being delayed and the TE2's that don't have an NA release date yet.

Can anyone recommend a good stick that is not too pricey, but is quality and could be updated with different art down the line?

I have a Madcatz SFIV TE round 1 that I absolutely love, but my son wants to get a stick now and the getting a TE stick these days can be expensive.

I have that stick. It's okay, but the TVC stick is that much better, and the Tekken TT2 stick is better still.
