Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Just watched the videos. It looks like any other stick where you have to remove the balltop and buttons in order to change the artwork. I remember you saying before the TE2 launched that you would be able to swap out the art without removing the buttons somehow. Was that concept scrapped? I never understood how it could have been possible anyway.

No, on the TE2 you just have to take off the balltop and some screws. Maybe this video is better:

Start at 13:30.

so are ultra te2s shipping this year or should i expect it on 2015

Which one? We already started shipping the PS3/PS4 preorders; we sold out on preorder for those. The Xbox 360 ones are still on their way.

We will have a VERY small quantity available this weekend during Capcom Cup both at the event and online. Stay tuned to the Mad Catz twitter for more details.

In case anyone missed out on the PS4 USF4 TE2s...

Random questions:
- Enough internal depth for Sanwa RG or OBS buttons?
- Enough internal depth for IL Magstick or Suzo Universal?
- How's the top panel thickness with Seimitsu snap-in buttons, especially the PS-15? (Atrox 360 edition's top panel is juuust too thick to use with Seimitsu snap-ins)
- Are all TE2 plexi inserts this multi-piece thing? (I tried a friend's TE2 for a few minutes and the loose, floaty feel of the very thin plexi insert bothered the shit out of me)
- Any news on more black-sided TE2s other than the Killer Instinct and Guilty Gear editions? (The red/blue situation needs to go...)
- What's the part number and/or interface type for the screw-on USB cable? (I like to build my own cables and have no problem with breaking out the Mouser/Digikey catalog and a solder iron)

I'm more of a SHMUP/STG guy, so the usual JLF/OBSF combo is of no interest to me...

- Sanwa RG will fit. Which OBS buttons are you referring to? Seimitsu GX will also fit.
- Not enough room to fit a IL or Suzo as is, will need heavy mods to the top metal panel.
- Seimitsu snap in buttons, particularly the one you mentioned, fit fine.
- The Killer Instinct version has been improved upon since it's release. The USF4 versions (and all hereafter) have a different top plexi that is thinner/tighter.
- That is your opinion. But we will be introducing a new range of side panels down the road. Currently the only way to get a dark colored side panel is via Killer Instinct or Xrd. The KI and Xrd ones are different though. KI is more smoke grey and Xrd is translucent deep black.
- The cable is proprietary. Funny enough, Razer is using the cable connector for their Xbox One arcade stick too. I wonder why they changed it from the Atrox 360 one (well I do know why, but yea). It was the same cable we first introduced with the MLG Pro Circuit Controller and Mad Catz Pro Controller.

Just to clarify, do you mean that you'll be selling different colored side panels on your site at some point?

Also, regarding replacing the art, does doing so change how flush the panel is with the side of the case? I had the original Vanilla SFIV TE, and the issue that bothered me was that replacing plexi would result in it no longer being flush. The edge would bother me.

Deciding to wait for the plain TE2 or buy now and mod the art or panel, but would want it to remain flush. I'm thinking specifically for a custom art layer or a whole new solid colored plexi panel from Art's Hobbies.

The Sanwa OBS-30A and OBS-30B:

OK, good.

True on the color opinion, but matte black sides (and to a lessor extent gloss white**) just seems like the obvious aesthetic choice to me. I'd imagine all the various special edition color variants are a pain from a manufacturing and retail logistics perspective?

** There's the whole oxidation and UV exposure issues you run into with white plastics as well. Sony's original "Playstation grey" really was a nice balance I think.

I'd imagine they are using the same connector you are for the same reason I'm interested in it - it's a nice compact, ruggid-ish alternative to Neutrik for USB. Looks like the 5-pin plug the CB/HAM radio guys use? I'm really just looking for an Amphenol, Tyco, etc plug/receptacle part number to plug into Digikey/Mouser.

Speaking of gamepad controllers, you guys planning on an update of the SFxT pads? If you're thinking of a new design, how about a clone of the Hori Fighting Commander 4 or PS3 Fighting Commander? I own a FC4 and it's the best thing this side of an original Sega Saturn pad (though I can do without the adjustable d-pad). Another gamepad that needs some cloning/updating are the PS3 "clicky" pads from SNK and PDP. Those things are awesome, if short-lived.

Does anyone have photos or a video that shows what the TE2 looks like without side panels? The blue might clash with my art and I was wondering if the TE2 looks fine without them.

The clashing art is my worry with the red/blue sides. Black/white is just so much easier to work with.

I will say, however, that it would be cool if MadCatz licensed the official Sanwa/Seimitsu colors and offered color-matched sides for the various Sanwa/Seimitsu button/ball colors out there. Could even cash in on the Playstation anniversary craze by offering a stick with the body and sides in the correct PS1 grey with black and ball top.

Another thing to offer would be a blank body-colored art insert (e.g. black) in the box explicitly for people to put their own sticker collection on under the plexi. Thin sheet of pre-cut plastic in a bag should be no issue to throw into existing packaging I'd imagine.

Yes. It's still flush. I actually used one of Art's new plexis with this custom TE2 we are putting together for Kayane. Check it out...

Still remains flush and feels good. This is without the enlarged button holes, btw.

While TE2 questions are getting thrown around, does a Crown fit in there without having to make room? Also, MarkMan I hope there's some official Lucky Chloe art for the eventual Tekken 7 stick, lol.

Yes, the Crown CWJ-303A/F-K will fit without issue.

Hey Markman,

Do you know if the GGXrd TE 2 for ps3/ps4 are still shipping next week?

Thanks!

I won't find out until Monday. I'll keep everyone in the loop.

My Real Arcade Pro buttons squeak a little bit from time to time. Is that normal with a new stick? Would that lessen over time as I use it and loosen it up?

It's the kuros. I played on mine for six months and the buttons never stopped squeaking and would stick occasionally.

I hate these buttons so much.

Thanks! I wen't to Art's site and don't really understand what he's talking on his TE2 page about regarding the button cutouts, however. Also watched the 5 part TE2 video on youtube, but can't quite tell how the bezel fits on. I'm a bit more confused than before. I might just hold off for the plain one rather than trying to grab the USFIV stick offer this weekend. If there's no shirt size selection, it's guaranteed it will be too big anyway.

My TE2 was supposed to be delivered today but FedEx somehow misdelivered it to a psychiatric hospital. As the person who signed for it is off until Monday they have no idea where it is and if they can get it back.

Might be an dumb question but what type of paper do you guys print out the templates on??

Super bummed about the Persona stick getting delayed. I took off the last week of December so I could dive back into fighters again. I might just settle for the GG stick and just print out a Persona cover lol. I could just swap the buttons later on too. Hmm.

Thanks for the pics.

Hm, interesting. The button on the back is selecet(PS3)/share(PS4). Is there any button that emulates clicking the touchpad? That's often used in place of the select button since the share button can't be used for in-game functions. For example, in Injustice practice mode, clicking the touchpad instantly resets the screen. That's hugely helpful for that mode.

Doesn't appear to be. I forgot I had injustice through PS+. I'll try it out and see if there's an alternative after I run through story of xrd. I wish they'd just let me spend 2 bucks to unlock Sin. :(

Can't wait for Tuesday. #sigh

Does Xrd use the touchpad click for any functions in game?

I'm kinda torn now. It's kind of a bummer if we're essentially short one button using sticks even if not used technically used in gameplay. It's too bad there wasn't a button added to emulate that. Does the Hori stick have both? Maybe I'll check out the Hori stick. I have an extra set of white Sanwa buttons I could always replace the Kuros with if I hate them. I'm interested in the hayabusa stick too. For the Hori stick in PS3 mode, what is used for the select button?

Personally that touchpad click would be more useful than the share button being one of the two front buttons. If I recall it's pretty much the replacement for the select button in multiple games.

I have a cronusmax and 360 TEs I was able to use with the Xrd demo, but forgot to check. It's just weird having to run it through a PC in order to use it on the PS4. It didn't seem to have any delay, though knowing there might be kinda bugs me.

I really want a dedicated PS4 MadCatz stick, but can't decide on a design, and can't pull the trigger having a working solution for my current sticks, even if it requires two devices running. Argh.

Just chiming in to say I got my KI stick a couple weeks back. I actually really like it , considering I paid only 130$ for it. That was my favorite part :P

Interesting to hear that the design was tweaked , I did notice there seems to be a tiny bit more give on the plexiglass top than the TE1 had. I didn't find it to be a problem, just noticed that it was there. Having the quick release and an included screwdriver as well as replacement button holders AND an internal space to properly house the cord are all fantastic design additions.

I discovered a small gripe that has nothing to do with madcatz though, I tried to use it on my PC yesterday and after downloading microsofts xbox one controller driver I was annoyed to find that it didn't work 100% with the fight stick. It doesn't properly read the triggers, probably something to do with them being analog and haptic compatible I guess ?(on the actual controller , not the arcade stick) Either way, I hope microsoft gets their drivers sorted out.

I still have my 360 TE1 so I just had to go back to that instead. Not sure if perhaps markman knows anything about this getting remedied ?

Either way, I like the stick, anyone who is jumping into an arcade stick for the first time can't go wrong with a TE2. Even better if you can find a sweet deal on one.

So I just bought a PS4 and Xrd, and am looking to buy my very first stick for PS4. I've been looking at the Hori RAP V4, and was wondering if it's a good stick. Are there any other alternatives that I should look out for?

I am a stick noob and have always been a pad warrior, so I know next to nothing about arcade sticks.

PS3 compatibility would be super nice, but not necessary.

A V4 should be a good pick. Lots of people really like the stick, but the buttons are liked by some and disliked by others. Search this thread for "kuros" and you should find some impressions.

Madcatz also makes a good stick for PS3/PS4 called the TE2, including a Xrd specific stick (also Persona and USF4 models).

I think those two--the V4 and the TE2--are the only stick options you have right now unless you want to do some modding.

If you're willing to spend $50 more than the Hori stick, people have been very happy with their TE2 sticks, and I feel like the type of buttons that it uses (Sanwa parts) jives better with more people.

You can also get an Xrd styled stick if you want to go that route, it ships in the next week or two.

There only seems to be one start/option button on the Hori V4 one. What is used for select in PS3 mode?

I'm really hesitant to drop money on a new stick that doesn't have a button to emulate the touchpad click. The TE2 button layout worked 1:1 for the Xbox One, but it's a little different for the PS4. I wish Mad Catz and Hori would have implemented extra buttons. I hate that the share button kinda messed with functionality on the PS4. Select is often used for stuff in fighters in some way. The share button kinda screws that up. I guess Sony mandates that's there on all their controllers. I do really like the MadCatz sticks though. Does Xrd use the touchpad or other buttons for training mode reset?

I just wish they had some buttons to emulate L3/R3/touchpad click. I guess it's not really a priority since that's not something that would be ever used in tournaments. I wish Mad Catz could have put the share button on the top like the Hori one and kept the one next to the options button as either the touchpad click or L3/R3/toggle-able. Maybe something for future models?

It was mentioned by the CronusMax people that they were working on some sort of PS4 solution and it wouldn't be announced/available until Christmas. If they make an adpater with two USB inputs so you could connect a DS4 and stick at the same time, while awkward would probably work.

Won't let you complete checkout and says out of stock, even though the pre-order button is still active.

So I got my TE2 Friday and I noticed something weird. There are some small rainbow splotches I noticed under the cover, and I only noticed it when light reflected off it. It might be some liquid got under the cover, but I don't even drink near my electronics, nor have I done lots of playing on it yet besides a few challenge missions in Xrd. The weird thing is that it's not near the edges where you expect the water to get in, but like 2 inches from the bottom center and another one an inch left of the stick. I would try to take a picture but it doesn't seem to capture it well.

Awwww that's a shame. The persona one is coming in January so I guess that's the nearest bet then, assuming the USF4 one doesn't re-stock by then.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I really appreciate it. I'll probably be looking into the Xrd TE2.

You're not alone. About 2/3 down the page, someone else has the same issue.

Apparently, it might be some moisture introduced during shipping.
