Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Finally happy to say I've scored myself a new Venom stick. I know it's not meant to be amazing, but I'm just happy I have a base from which to work from.

Hopefully the modding/upgrading on it isn't all that painful, but we'll see.

Thanks everyone! Glad you guys like it! Was really happy the carbon fiber wrap turned out so well, let alone attempting to cut and size it all on the stick.

Red comet color scheme?

It might have had a bit of an influence... Was actually thinking about panel lining it at some point.

Nice job! The red really came through after it dried. Looks great.

I'm not a fan of the clear buttons but wow those gamefingers sit very high don't they?

I was going to hop on them buy Skilletor told me about RGs and OBS-MXs. The actuation/travel distance required for gamefingers is like 2mm, I think sanwa obsf-30s is like 1.2-1.4mm and obs-mx is even less.

Is this your first time with mechanical buttons? Do you find it feels mushy when you bottom out on the buttons and hit the foam? Let me know your thoughts on 'em

Yup, first time with mechanical buttons, but I've taken a big liking to them. Sitting high doesn't seem to really matter much with the Cherry MX reds as they activate really quickly. If they were something like MX blacks, then having to travel all the way down before it activates might be an issue with their height. While I'm generally a Seimitsu guy as all my sticks have their parts, I actually like the linear feel of the gamerfingers. Doesn't feel mushy, but consistent which is nice. Might try the MX blues for more of a clicky feel. Wanted to toss in my MX clears from my keyboard, but I'd have to desolder them. Did a bit of Persona and Gundam EXVS and everything felt pretty responsive.

i just ordered sf5 for my ps4.
since sf4 ultimate was compatible with my fightstick TE.. on ps4
is 5 working with it ?

Does anyone have the Mayflash V2 dual mod stick? I want to confirm that it works in PS3 compatibility mode with USFIV PS4. I assume SFV will use the same drivers. I just picked one up in desperation for Tuesday but google is failing me right now and I can't seem to get a consensus on whether or not this stick will work. Some amazon reviews state that because its a generic DS3 driver PS4 rejects it and won't allow it to work even with PS4 games that have PS3 driver support built in. I haven't opened it yet and probably will keep it sealed until I can get some confirmation that it will actually work... otherwise I'll probably have to wait another 2 weeks before I can afford a proper PS4 stick (damn you, Canadian dollar! Now is not the time!).

I would go for the Venom but that doesn't seem to even be available in Canada :(

Have you considered HRAP4 Kai? It is 150$ and you might not need to change the buttons or the stick. It also has much more functionality than the Venom stick.

Digging around a bit, apparently the 8Bitdo Bluetooth iOS/Android stick that also used the same chassis as the Venom measured at 360mm X 231mm X 59mm (for the base, at least). That sounds about right for the Venom by my recollection.

As someone suggested, though, if you aren't super-tied to your Sanwa's, it might be worth considering a HRAP4Kai as an option too.

Alright so I thought hard about my options and I've decided to keep the Venom stick with extra Sanwas. It has PS4 functionality unlike the TE and also doesn't cost $200 like the TES+. (Also, returning the Venom back to the UK would have been a nightmare!)

I just opened the Venom and I am very pleased with the quality. It is about as weighty as the TE. Yeah, the joystick and buttons are kinda meh but that'll be my project for tomorrow. There is also significant less lag than the TE on the PS4.

:)

I'm considering exchanging the Hori Fighting Edge for another stick that has default ps4 support. I need a stick to play Arc Systems games on, and neither GG or BB support ps3 sticks. If anyone has any offers... ^_^ 8 button stick with the start and select button preferably on the front and not on the top of the stick.

I will throw in a Hori FC4.

If you have an FC4 and a stick you want to be a PS4 stick, can you not find someone to help you just mod the stick with the FC4 PCB? Especially if you are going to TX Showdown, there should be a mod booth there.

Would that be EVO approved?

Yes. As long as your stick doesn't burn out USB ports or does anything stupid crazy, then your method of input is allowed. I remember seeing someone who played with the Donkey Kong bongo drums with buttons added to the sides.

Anyone know where to find a Hayabusa Octogate in EU/UK?

I only can find it on focusattack.com but with postage it turns a £2 order into just over £15, which is enough to get hit with the USPS customs handling fee, so add another £12 or so plus VAT at £3.

£30 ($43) for a flipping gate. Sod that.

Might just rip the Sanwa JLF out of my PS3 TE stick and shove into my HRAP4K.

WHy is shipping out of US so expensive, I can ship from Japan to UK for like £3.

if you dont know how to solder, or are a rookie it can be tricky. Padhack soldering is already a bit harder than normal PCB soldering since you are soldering onto a contact point instead of through a hole. However you can remove all the difficulty by using a board that has screw terminals, instead of hacking a pad

This means I won't be able to participate in EVO. Brook is banned afaik.

This is so ridiculous and compounded by MadCatz's delay and Qanba being quiet.

Brook converters aren't banned.

This.
Subject to change if Sony updates and breaks the drivers, but Brook is quick to update firmware.

... so basically as long as they don't break them during EVO, lol

Wire stripper?

So you can access the copper wire underneath the insulation. You could potentially use scissors if you're careful, but that is also a massive pain in the ass (and hand, lol).

I've decided to sell the Fighting Edge and just wait for a Mad Catz TES+ In April. That is the stick I wanted originally. I'll just have to tough it out and use pad for a bit longer.

You should try ordering through MadCatz site. I ordered my TES+ a couple days after they said they were out of stock until March, and it gets delivered today!

Oh, I'm Canadian (as is Deathbybacklog I believe), it shows stock on MC's Canada site ($26.99).

Yeah actually, just doubled checked the Canadian site...it's there! I'll have to sit down and really think of what kind of buttons I'd want though. That was one of the nice things about the programmable one, didn't have to commit to any certain colour button.
