How you like the buttons? I really enjoy mine. See how you like it, but I greatly prefer the Hayabusa joystick with a 2 lb spring in it vs. the stock. It made a big difference. Nice pickup and glad it all worked out for you. also you should put those pictures in quotes

Worst-case scenario, you can always get some Sanwa buttons from Focus Attack. If that happens, I may be willing to buy the Hayabusa buttons off of you (if I get my check in the near future) if you want to.
Anyway, does that stick have a touch-pad on the back like the other recent Hori sticks?

Mmmm. Red VLX is sex. It's also my white whale. The one that got away. The one I can't quite pull the trigger on without risking divorce. But I want it. One day. One day....

I was on the fence with red. I wanted the black one. I thought it looked better. But every post and thread I was on about them as well as looking up youtube vids said get the red one. Also most post said the red looks better in person. I kinda agree now lol
As strange as it sounds I would have picked an Xbox One to Xbox 360 stick if they had one over the PS3 stick just due to my back catalog of XBL arcade games and what not.
need a new stick for a few reasons, and this should also hopefully help explain my concerns and what I'm looking for.
1. recently moved and lost the USB dongle to make this thing work. sure, I could get a replacement, but I paid like $40 for the entire bundle so not really looking to spend more money on it in light of the fact that it feels cheap as hell...which brings me to #2
2. the stick included in the bundle feels cheap as hell. my biggest immediate criticism right after using it is how damn light it is. this combined with the fact that the buttons just didn't feel right, joystick felt loose as hell, etc. has led me to look for a replacement.
3. not sure whether this really matters, but the stick will be used primarily on PC
so I've done some minimal research and have been eyeing the Mayflash F300. will run me $60 shipped on amazon and it seems very easy to upgrade/customize.
my major concern is this: after all the money I will eventually spend on modifying the stick with sanwa parts, etc....am I better off just initially spending more money to get a quality hori stick or whatever? and if so, which stick should I get?
imo, don't buy crap then go through the trouble of trying to make it worth it. just buy a hori stick and it'll be perfect right out of the box. sanwa buttons + a jlf are going to run you like $40 anyway, what's the point?
imo $60 is too much money to spend on something that you know already sucks. if you have to put aside some money and wait a little longer then that's what it takes, but when the dust is settled you'll have a kickass thing you can feel nice about.
i was trying to find out the difference beetween hrap 4 and 5
anyways looks like my local video game spot has the hrap 4 for cheaper than the price listed on amazon. might just go with that but would like to know the differences between 4 and 5 before i take the plunge...

Hey folks. I've not actually been on NeoGaf in a while
nothing against it, just busy with life and family and all that
but I finally completed a big old arcade stick project and since this thread was what got me started on the whole arcade stick thing, and fighting games in general I wanted to log back in to share it with ya'll.
Apologies for a bunch of pictures or if you are seeing this a second time from SRK Tech Talk .
I've always loved arcade cabinets, but never really loved how they dominate any room that they are in sizewise, especially in a small condo. So I set out with a goal to make something that could get that cool two player arcade feel, but in a hidden way that would blend in with the look of a room. I like woodworking, so the obvious starting point for me was putting all the arcade business into some type of classy asian-influenced furniture. This design is what I ended up designing and implementing. It's an end table with a lid that can be pulled off (I batted around a few hinged designs early on, but this simple pull off version seemed the best) to reveal a clean black / white / red two player arcade setup. Tossed in a little Akuma inlay on the top just to give a hidden hint about the geekiness contained within.
Took a long time as life has been super busy. But I'm really happy with how it came out. For the tech specs, both sides are the same with an LS-32, Seimitsu buttons, a PS360+, and a hidden ethernet jack on the bottom. There are a few small issues that I have with it, first that the lid I actually made a bit too tight, as when all the layers of finish were added it's not quite as easy to pull off as I like. And second, the controls are a bit closer together that would really be optimal for a 2P setup. That was more due to the size that I wanted the table and it's worked just fine with a couple of big adult dudes playing on it, they just have to sit a bit spread out on the left and the right.
Parts from all over the place (Tek-Innovations, Focus Attack, Akihabara Shop).
I did a lil research and it looks like all the rap4 now come with Hayabusa buttons...? Is this accurate? Maybe the sellers just haven't updated the description? On Amazon the description says kuro buttons but people are saying they're getting ones with Hayabusa buttons

The big difference isn't the buttons, honestly - the newer revision also has a new PCB which is much more responsive to input, and has better PC support.

Yes. The PCB and the button revision were done at the same time. The version which ships with the Hayabsua buttons is the revised edition with the improved PCB.
Speaking of Hori, I'd probably be trying to get one of these if the Marisa stick wasn't Hori-store exclusive.
Thanks, glad you like it. I like a nice clean six button look on the top, so the side buttons are just all the other function buttons for a controller. I put R1 and L1 on with the face buttons, and the side buttons have L2, R2, Start, Select and Guide.
Quite probably, though they are releasing two. The Reimu is Amazon exclusive, and the Marisa is exclusive to Horistore (which has been completely dead since they announced it).
I kinda want the Marisa one, but not enough to have to deal with proxies. Reimu is probably way less hassle, but I don't care that much about Touhou.
I've been using Kuro buttons on my VSHG for a few months and think they are underrated. I wouldn't choose them over OBSFs but they're totally fine. Look forward to trying Hayabusa buttons at some point.
Worth mentioning that I did use this stick (with stock parts) in tournament at Canada Cup last year, lol. So I'm not too picky.

they may squeak if you hit them from the wrong angle. i had the issue as well for a while. it appears and disappears randomly. it doesn't bother me much.

Inspiring work. The design of the furniture is really well done and the simple layout and color scheme for the arcade stick part is just great. Congratulations on finishing such a nice piece.

Is it me or is the throw on the sanwa shorter when you're moving it to the right? I find it that I hit the gate more frequently on that side. When I move it on the left side, I hardly do.

The throw should be the same for all cardinal directions.
If you're not sure, just open up your stick and look at the bottom of the Sanwa. The actuator should be perfectly centered within the gate.
