Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

madcatz stuff has taken a step down in quality this generation. i know the TES+ is on sale so that helps a bit but i think the HRAP4 is a better stick for the same price

I see, well someone at a local arcade is offering to sell me their's for less than a new HRAP4. As long as they aren't seriously prone to hardware failures or simply bad sticks, then I think I'll go with that.

So how are the brook converters. I have my old 360 TE stick, and want to use it on my PS4 for UMVC3 and the like. I'm not into fighters enough to shell out another $100+ for a new stick, so I thought this might be my best bet? Anything I should know or worry about?

They are a bit jank but you should probably be okay.

Brook converters are solid, just plug and play. You will eventually need a pc/mac to update the firmware though when Sony puts out an update to lock them out. When that happens Brook puts out an update 24-48hrs later to get them working again.

Just built a new PC - looking forward to finally trying Killer Instinct, but I just realized that I had previously read about the PS3/PS4 TE2 having issues in Win10. If there are/were problems, have they been resolved?

Is there any good place to purchase custom buttons? I recall a place selling a bunch of SF related buttons that had either chibi characters or defeated/victory portraits, but I'm drawing a blank.

There's a PC driver for the TE2 that madcatz released. Haven't played KI in a bit but it worked fine last time I did. Google should be able to find it for you.

Any impressions from the Razer Panthera? Was that available for use to play on at PSX?

The resting of my wrist on the TE2+ is different than what I'm used to on the OG TE, so thinking of switching it up

Are my only options for a ps4/pc stick with a larger case for extra palm/wrist space the Qanba Crystal and the TES+? I really want to avoid MCZ after my issues with the TE2+, but I also know very little about Qanba in general and the Crystal isn't out yet so there aren't any impressions.

This is one of the big reasons I NEED a ps4 fightingedge.

Hi guys...

So for nearly ten years I used a trusty HRAP2 on my PS2 and PS3 which I loved.

Had to get a new stick on a budget for my PS4 so bought the Venom stick and modded it with Sanwa/Seimitsu parts (I can't remember which parts precisely, it was earlier this year).

Something about the stick doesn't quite feel right to me, it kinda feels a bit 'loose' and imprecise, but I can't pinpoint exactly why.
Worse still, twice I've had a button disconnect mid-match and had to unscrew the whole thing to reconnect it.

I'm tempted to rip apart my HRAP and put the parts into the Venom, even though the parts in that are supposedly worse than the Sanwa/Seimitsu parts.

Any advice?

Go back and look up exactly what parts you put into the Venom. Maybe you installed a joystick that simply doesn't fit you.
As for the button disconnections, that could honestly happen in any stick with quick-connects. Use pliers to tighten the connections if needed. Soldering is the most secure form of connection, but is obviously more inconvenient than a quick-connect.

If you still have your HRAP2, why not use it with a Brook PS2->PS4 adapter?

Perfect place to ask cant find the answer anywhere else. Do the Brook adapters support Madcatz TE 1 PS3 sticks? i want to get one for the ps4 because i don't want to spend money on a new arcade stick.

They support it. Should be plug and play if it has the latest firmware installed.

Purchased this for my PC from a fellow Gaffer and it came to me still smelling like new. I'm blown away by the condition that it's in and I'm having flashbacks from preordering one years ago. Queue the Exile track from SFIV...

Qanba makes quality stuff and $150 is pretty solid price for a premium stick, especially one with LEDs.

There's a review here that is mostly positive - http://shoryuken.com/2016/11/30/hurtboxtv-reviews-the-qanba-crystal-ps3ps4pc-fightstick/

Thanks. I'm not sure if I understood the end of the video though, is he saying you can't easily swap the stick for a sanwas stick? If I were to buy this I'd immediately want to replace the buttons and stick with seimitsu and sanwas parts.

Edit: upon rewatching it seems like he only mentioned how keeping the light functionality might be difficult. The squeaky plexiglass might be an issue though...

Hi! I was thinking about modding my Venom arcade stick with a Sanwa joystick and buttons. Reading online it seems that, for the joystick, I have to use a different cable to connect it to my PCB (a JST-HX Fem-Fem) but I can't find it on Akishop. Is it possible to use something else/some places where I can buy it one? I tried on eBay, but I don't really want to spend 5€ for 5 cables when I'm only needing one.

I read this and got really excited thinking maybe I didn't need to buy a new stick for my PS4, until I saw that the converters are $50. What the hell? To convert a signal from a 360 stick to the PS4?

I still have my SFIV SE stick for 360 that I modded with Sanwa parts. I always liked it (though its too light) but If I need to drop $50 to use that I feel like I might as well upgrade and get a new PS4 stick.

I'm trying to spend less than $100. I see people talking about Qanba sticks but not the Drone specifically. Is that any good? Would it feel like an an upgrade over my modded SE?

But $50 is less than the $100 you want to spend. Not to mention it keeps you with the stick you know and love, and the feel of a stick, how broken-in it is, etc, is a fairly large factor.

The Brook adapter is absolutely the easiest way to go while keeping the 360 functionality. Next closest would be to outright swap the PCB to a UFB that is $90 and takes some work to put in.

What's the input lag on those converters

Almost zero.

That is true. But I'm wondering if, for another $50 ($100 total), I could get a significant upgrade on a new stick. I like the SE - with the Sanwa mods the buttons and stick are totally fine - but its a little light and flimsy. I little more weight in my lap would be nice.

Is the Qanba Drone more solid? Are the stock parts OK? Could I take my Sanwa stick and buttons from my current stick and toss them in the Qanba? It was a Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK stick and OBSF-30 buttons.

they are $35 at focusattack. also no, the qanba would be a downgrade unless you moved your parts into it.

The stick part in my MadCatz TE round 2 stick from like 2008 or 2009 is finally starting to show it's age. It drops fireball inputs about 1/4 the time on P1 side, that or I'm suddenly worse at doing it.

I'm considering just buying a new stick altogether since this doesn't work on PS4, and I might want to play Marvel or Tekken on PS4 in the future. It just sucks spending $150+ but it also feels bad to replace the part and then end up buying a new stick in a month anyway. Is MadCatz still the go-to these days? Right now all I use it for is SFV on PC.

Alternatively I could try to learn to use pad. I don't see that being fun or easy.

Edit: Wow that Qanba Dragon looks really nice. Holy shit it's $300? :( I'd definitely bite at $200 but $300 is a hard pass.

Awesome - you just saved me $15! Thanks! I should have it in a few days.

$35 is a no brainer I guess. Looking forward to playing fighting games again! It has been a while...

Edit: Damn I might have just got the last one too - now showing its out of stock

MCZ has issues now. For $150, seems like Hori and Qanba are your best bets (though the Qanba Crystal isn't out yet).

I'm like 90% on board with buying a Crystal myself, but the review that was posted a few posts ago mentioned an annoying squeaking issue with the plexi that has me worried.

If you like your stick I imagine you could get a new lever + Brooks converter for cheaper than that. They are pretty reliable and are plug and play. I am sure there is about a million guides to replacing the lever and buttons, if you wish.

Is there additional input lag with a converter? I've modded a joystick before, my first stick was the MadCatz SE stick that I modded with full sanwa parts so I'm not afraid of replacing it, just a bit concerned about extra lag. My stick already doesn't work natively with SFV on PC so I'm dealing with whatever lag comes with joy2key. Unless the converter would cause it to work without 3rd party tools? I'll read up on it.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out on the crystal.

Anywhere I can order some custom art for my original TE stick?

I haven't messed with it since SFIV on 360 and it's looking worse of the wear.

I checked out focus attack and it looks like they only had one option.

I believe a few posts up people were talking about the lag introduced from the converter. I don't think it is very much.

Check out tek-innovations.

You might be able to get whatever art you want printed and cut out there. Haven't done it myself.

So I got this bad boy in today
NAMCO "JOY STICK". Believe these are made by Hori right?

Mine says NPC-102 (SLUH 00029) MADE IN JAPAN

Awaiting my PS2 Soul Calibur 2 Hori stick

Any idea where I can pick up a replacement bezel for the TE2?

I picked up an empty TE2 shell to mod but it doesn't come with the bezel unfortunately. Amazon seems sold out and I can't find it anywhere! Seems nuts that it's so hard to find..
