Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Hey guys, I'm currently swapping default stick on my VLX with Crown CWJ-303A, does it matter where I connect the individual wires on the adapter onto the 303A?

http://www.madcatz.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/crown-fanta-style-008.jpg

It definitely does matter, since each microswitch is a different direction, but if no instructions were provided, you may have to rely on trial and error. The black one with multiple QD's is ground, so clip one onto one of each microswitch's tabs, and wire up the others and hope for the best? If shit is all messed up, re-wire the colored wires. Also, I never knew this existed. I'll have to get me one of these.

It's pretty different, more restrictive than Japanese styled sticks and I'm getting use to circular movement again like the arcades. :D

Nice. Pics?

Lookin' good. As soon as I noticed the levered microswitches, I became super interested in this thing. Design reminds me of Seimitsu sticks.

Any sites reliably shipping buttons and sticks? I last ordered about a year ago through lizard lick, but I remember they had some trouble recently?

Also, what's a good price for a used full Sanwa HRAP-EX?

well, arcadeforge didn't have the madcatz plexi I wanted for my custom stick art build, so I went safe and bought white stick and buttons. Maybe later I will mod it.

I have a bunch of sticks. Currently using an Eightarc 360 Onyx with silent Sanwa buttons. Here's the first custom stick I built in late 2008 in preparation for SFIV.

Paradise Arcade Shop is really awesome. I'm actually a huge fan of the silent cherry switches for the JLF. A nice and cheaper alternative to the Sanwa silent stick. They still make a slight clicking sound, probably not noticeable in a tournament setting or playing late a night.

I also tested out the Zippy's, but I didn't like them as much. I felt like it was harder to get the corner input when doing QCFs.

Completed my PS3 TE Round 1, Sanwa JLF with octo-gate and seimitsu buttons,

but I'm very very frustrated right now. I didn't know about the whole PS3-sticks-on-pc is a bitch problem. It works on my old computer but not on the new one. It detects the stick as a 8838 or something like that, but the stick and buttons dont register.

Tried installing motion2joy which was recommended everywhere, but it doesn't work unless it recognises the stick, which it doesn't. Another solution is buying a USB PCI card but theres no room for such a card in my new'ish comuter.

Was this ever fixed? My guess is no, as I can't find anything...

Guess the last option is to go full mod and get a dualstrike v2 encoder. Does anyone have a picture of where to place the dualstrike inside the TE Round 1 case?

Not much on the Wii U Tekken Tag 2 stick on the net. I got one in the mail earlier today after hemming and hawing for a couple of months. Opened it up and took some photos. This is a Kuru stick, no? Well, it definitely looks a bit different from the Edge internals which seemed higher quality. Buttons are fine, and the hard edge on the rims are kinda nice. Altogether a very cheap feeling stick...not much different that all the other Wii sticks. Sorry MarkMan, don't have your Wii U stick yet but will get it in the next few weeks. This Hori one is all right but nowhere near a top stick. Persona stick feels way better for a slightly higher price. Color scheme is great though...that crimson ball-top is sex.

The Madcatz TvC stick should work and is IMO a very nice stick esp for the price.

That looks like the Seimitsu-inspired generics Hori threw in on every stick prior to and including the T5. Definitely not a Hayabusa unless they've decided to redesign its restrictor plate and ditch the PCB. If they didn't advertise the buttons and lever as anything special, it's probably not.

That is what I'm thinking. I thought it was supposed to have what was in the FE stick. Definitely not that. My Edges are in California but even messing with them for only a few minutes I remember them being better than this. Feels better than their low-end stick, though. But, make no bones this is ghetto, straight up. Price is cheap, though...only $60-ish for japanese folks ($130 for importers).

I might open it back up and take a better photo of the actual stick.

Got a few of those...definitely feels better than this new Hori. Though, the Hori is better than my other Exar Wii sticks. I'm gonna use this on VC (and Tekken Tag 2) to see how it feels.

EDIT: oh yeah, now I remember. Kuru are the buttons and Hayabusa is the new stick.

Can't test given I don't have any fighting games on the system but will my eightarc fusion work on the Wii U? Would be a major bummer if I have to get a new stick just for one system.

You have to get a brand new stick just for one system. :/

I picked up some of the Mad Catz TE-S ends for my round 1 TE. They look pretty nice and were relatively easy to put on:

You can probably find a cheap TvC stick which should be usable on WiiU.

EDIT: Lol I didn't realize I said pretty much the same thing to someone else a few posts up.

So, Alex Jebailey (organizer of the CEO tournament) tweeted this link over the weekend to a company that builds DIY arcade cabinets.

Anyone ever heard of this shop? The Vewlix Clone is very tempting as a shmups & fighting game station. If I lived somewhere with an actual arcade scene, I'd try to get a real cab, but that's not a realistic possibility. Plus this would break down pretty easy for moves, it seems.

Would be a nice retirement home for my JP Xbox & two sticks after next gen arrives.

Thoughts?

Edit: wow, this kit would be amazing, but a lot pricier (understandable - it's gorgeous, plus higher shipping costs). Painting and building out the sticks is probably more than I want to get into.

Has anyone hacked a Dual Shock 3? I think I can find a generic one on eBay to open up.

I've always heard the Sony ones are difficult to solder, but I'm not sure how much has changed since I looked a few years ago.

Considering you could either use a Cthulhu or any old HID USB controller, the only reason you'd hack a Sixaxis would be if you really, really needed your controller to be wireless. A Dualshock 3 would be a waste unless you can find a way to retain the vibration function.

Cthulu's are about $30 or $35 and I could probably get a generic PS3 controller for $5 or $10. I couldn't find any schematics on SRK or slagcoin though.

Has anyone with previous experience with a Taeyoung or Myoungshin Fanta tried the new Crown CWJ-303A?

Also, I ordered some buttons from focus attack late last night and they shipped this morning before I woke up for work. Pretty amazing.

To combat the stupidity that is sony, I ordered a Dual Strike v2 and a faceplate for my PS3 TE Round 1 stick. I have a question though.

How do I make sure the artwork is the right size when I print it out? Got access to a pretty sweet A3 printer.

I don't recall sharing my Chun-Li TE with GAF. Regardless, I figured I'd share a bunch of the templates I made prior to settling on one.

Two things though:
1. I basically modeled my stick after another GAF poster (see here) and inserted the best art I could find (I had no idea how big the art ended up actually having to be, it's quite limiting).
2. Most of these templates were never finished so lots of it is really rough stuff (like the outline around Dudley not being cleaned up). I basically kept making templates until I realized I wanted a Chun Li one. Then I made a handful of variants or so. I also left art in the buttons incase I ever decided to get clear buttons.

Anyways I figured I would share:

Imgur Album
- This album has all the unused stuff
Final Chun Li TE Stick - Sadly this is on my PS3 stick and I mostly play on XBL :|
Final Chun Li TE Template - It only took forever to settle on this
Pink Dudley TE Template - The art was never cleaned up, I wasn't positive about the bow tie might look either
Bison TE Template - Flying purple magic motherfucker is something I use to yell over XBL with friends during jump attacks and such -.-

I have a couple of sticks for sale for anyone in Orange County, CA.

  • MvC TE stick Xbox 360 (lightly used)
  • SF IV TE stick Xbox 360 & modded for PS3 (more used but still great condition)

I have both of the boxes and the headphone items that came with the sticks. PM if interested. I don't want to ship them and I don't want to deal with the hassle of ebay.
