Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Cross post(reply?) from FGC weekly thread:

To think... people called me crazy when I doubted controller forward compatibility. "Your stick will be fine!" they said, "It's USB!" they said. Hogwash!

It makes more financial sense for PS3 to put security chips on their controllers as well. We'll see if they do though.

Sony has at least been consumer friendly peripheral-wise for a while now. You can use whatever hard drive or blue tooth headset you'd like with PS3, so I'm holding out some hope they'll allow ps3 sticks to work with ps4.
Microsoft's decision is unsurprising though.

I just picked up Persona 4 Arena for the 360, and whilst this is the first fighting game that I'm really enjoying- I'm fed up of the pathetic DPad on the 360 controller. I cannot perform simple quarter circle moves and it hurts my fingers tremendously.
I want to pick up a fight stick, but I don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of money. Every site I've looked at is dated and all of the sticks are no longer available for me.
I live in the UK too, so tracking down US based sticks, or even getting cheap delivery here is practically impossible.

Can anyone help me out?

Amazon UK surely has some Mad Katz sticks just not sure what affordable is to you. May even be worth checking the Warehouse Deals there too!

Wouldn't even know where to begin looking though. I'm looking for something maybe £50 or under? Like the WWE Allstars Stick was before it went out of production. Can't seem to pick up any of those anymore for a cheap price and I heard they were almost perfect for beginners in terms of functionality, modability, reliability and price.
Has there not been anymore cheap ones like that made since?
Cheers for your help.

Edit: I have worked out that it would be £42 to get one of those imported over here, is that the cheapest I will pick up any decent Sticks?

I made do with a HORI EX2 for quite a while before upgrading to a TE stick, they're pretty darn cheap from memory. Not sure that they're being made anymore though, but surely there should be a new equivalent now.

Worth a look around your general department stores too, I remember looking around places like Big W here in Australia, and they had cheap fight sticks around which would be a reasonable starting point.

No stores around here that would stock Fighting Sitcks, not even brand new ones at the biggest Gaming chains here like GAME. And I can't seem to find any new version of that stick online, only used ones of the EX2 and different versions for prices way out of my budget.
Thanks anyway, man.

what's the consensus on the diamond HRAP VLX?

heavily considering getting one from arcade shock but i'm having trouble justifying the ~$500 price...

Right up there as one of the best arcade sticks released, in my eyes.

Is it worth $500? That would be a personal call. It certainly feels like a $300 stick.

Also, Hori USA is having a Memorial day sale with a few sticks (newish ones) at $99:

you do need to lightly scratch off the rubber...

http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/pcb_wiring.html#PCB_MAPPING_AND_SOLDERING

super detailed site on PCBs and soldering (pretty much anything arcade stick related)

i hate the term fight stick

i'm scratching with one of these spikes:

what about the ground then, do i just scratch the pcb surface?

those should be fine.

just scratch lightly enough to expose some contact. you only need one and you can just daisy chain your grounds together.

you want to aim for the light green part (around the red circled area)

I sent madcatz customer support a copy of my receipt does anybody know how long it takes?

I'm assuming you sent an email? If possible try and get a number to call, it's so much faster. First time I had an issue with a madcatz stick it took months for it to get resolved.

Quick question for MarkMan or whoever knows:

Do the PS3 Tekken Tag sticks work on PCs too, or do they retain the old TE issue where it didn't support most USB chipsets?

Our answer is always this for the PS3 sticks and PC compatibility.

The PS3 sticks are not designed for PC use. So they are not guaranteed to work with them. If you want PC compatibility, your best bet is to get an Xbox 360 stick and it will work on Windows based PCs.

But just so you know. From the Chun-Li TE S on (this includes the TTT2 TE S+ for PS3), we've made some changes and they should work with most PCs. I won't guarantee it will work but I know it works better than our old PCBs did.

Cool, thanks for the info :)

LS-58 (with a LS-56 spring) and PS-14 GN/DN’s.

Shout outs too hibachifinal for sending me the spring too.

looks sick, i have the exact same color and parts setup on my White Madcatz TE. ;)
how you finding the LS-56 tension?

edit - maybe you can remove the red switches entirely? haha

Don't think I've posted pictures of my fightstick in here, better now than never to do so!

Courtesy of Project GiantSword! Sorry for the probably crappy picture, just used my phone to take it since I don't have a nice camera. But, a custom balltop with the stick, and it works great. I love it.

sort of a related question for everyone. any suggestions on a good store-bought "table" or "stand" for arcade sticks? for sit-down set ups i mean. Looking for something close to candy cab (astros, egret) height, plus the arcade stick itself (TE or HRAP sizes). or rather what do most of you who dont use their laps use? just looking for ideas.

The IKEA Lack table puts my HRAP 2 SA pretty close to candy cab height. It only costs around $10 - $15 depending on your location.

Kray used to offer a half-Kraylix. It's not on his main site for placing a deposit, so no idea if he still does. You might contact him and see if he would be willing to make one to insert a TE (since some of his Kraylix models have that option).

Not a cheap option but definitely good looking.

decided to pull the trigger and get a diamond VLX from marquezsf off SRK

this will probably be my last stick for a long while seeing as how this thing cost me $350

Recently the B,RT, and LT buttons on my Xbox MadCatz SFIV TE no longer work.

Are there any easy fixes for this? I have never opened up my stick so I need some how to instructions as well.

I would like to fix it, buying another stick is not a viable option for the foreseeable future.
