Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

That Razer stick is seriously hideous. I can't be alone in thinking this.

Not alone, at all.

Thing is stunningly gross. I do kinda want one but the brand name is a bit of a turn-off. And since I collect I'd leave it stock and I'm not sure I want THAT in my collection.

Some neat features, though. The opening face-plate. But looks like MC is putting that in their new stick for One.

And, like sixteen-bit already said, very surprised at the size.

I hope that the button to open up the stick becomes a standard feature for most of the next-gen sticks that are coming down the pike. So convenient.

This waiting game to find out if current USB sticks will work on the upcoming systems sucks. I want to buy a new stick, but if it won't be compatible I'll have to wait quite a while.

Haha. What do you want to know about it?

Just spent some time with it. Coming from a HRAP3, I love it. Sits slightly higher than the HRAP though, but no biggie for me. Buttons and stick are typical Sanwa. I might switch it out with an LS-56 + Seimitsu buttons in the future though since that's what I have on my HRAP and I'm so used to them by now. Sanwa buttons are bit too sensitive for me.

Here are some quick pics I took, sorry for the quality:

Hope it gives you an idea of the size and what it looks like inside. Compartments for the spare bat top and USB cable and the honeycomb base.

Can't give you specific measurements or weight, I'm afraid. Hopefully the pic of it sitting next to my HRAP gives you an idea of how big it is. As for weight, damn it's heavy. Heavier than my HRAP for sure.

The cover hatch thing is great. And with the gas strut, it's quite sturdy. A bit awkward to close and open though as the latch is right in the middle but since the cover is large, you have to press on both ends, and that doesn't give it much pressure for the latch to properly connect. But this is a very minor niggle. Also, a little disappointed the gas strut doesn't go "psshhhhhh" like the doors of the DeLorean in BttF :D

Haven't messed with the plexi yet, but once I have the time, that ugly Razer art is going into the trash!

Works great with SSF4AE on PC... need to reassign buttons though. Haven't tried it with my Xbox yet but I don't really have any fighting games on it, only a few shmups... and I'm not touching them while this has a Sanwa JLF in it.

Wow, the Razer stick is massive

That Razer stick is seriously hideous. I can't be alone in thinking this.

Awesome report, you cover all the things i wanted to know, as i imagined, its really huge, and damn heavy i pressume, that art is really A DISASTER, but nothing we can`t fix.

I love the easy customization on this joystick.

thank you !!!

Pardons for the newbie question.:

I have an arcade stick for fighting games (a Mad Catz SSFIV with octagonal gate and a bat stick).

Does anyone make an arcade stick with two sticks and flight-stick type controllers with which you could totally replace a console controller? Each stick would have triggers and buttons that correspond to all console buttons. I'd love to play all games with twin sticks with buttons mapped a la flight-sticks.
I'm pretty sure they have them out there, but they're really rare and pretty expensive. I'm also pretty sure that fighting games on them would suck.

So I was just looking back through some of the sticks that came out this year, and I'll be damned if this wasn't the sexiest mass-produced stick out there.

I'm not even that big into Tekken, but if I had that stick I'd be fine just leaving the stock artwork on there and everything. The red balltop with grey Sanwa buttons looks so slick with that art, and I love the recessed Start button.

This puts the Madcatz one to shame, IMO.

Seconded on that Tekken stick. Easy one of the best more recent. Gundam stick is up there as well.

Don't knock MC, though. They still made the best looking stick in the last two years:

I didn't even know that stick existed. Still, though. I prefer the look of the Hori one. That one has some nice minimalism going for it, but it may be too bland for my tastes.

PS - In the looks department, I don't think any stick on the market can top the Omni Sanwa Edition:

Omni_TK_SANWA_resize.jpg

Perfection.

ahem ahem. that artwork/style looks familiar to something we did 2 years prior...
Hah, sorry for my choice of words. The TTT2 TE S+ stick looks very nice as well. But an enthusiast like yourself surely can appreciate the beauty of that Hori stick. The art, the choice of balltop and buttons, and that awesome case design. Gotta give credit where it's due in this case.

Which stick from two years ago were you referring to?

Uh, sorry for the newbieness here, but this thread comes with so much arcade gaming memories I couldn't stay away. Are there already products announced for Ps4, preferably PC compatible ?

Not yet, as far as I know. But there are rumors that any HID-compliant USB arcade stick from the PS3 era should in theory still work on the PS4. Madcatz has said that their sticks won't work, though.

Underlined the important part for stick-makers =p

Yeah, I like the way that the Virtua Stick High Grade handled it. Six buttons on the face. Select/Start in the top right. Two little L1/L2 buttons up in the control panel area. As far as I know, nobody else has released a stick like that since.

This info is what lots of folks that I know are awaiting confirmation on. Hopefully Sony will confirm soon.

New stick for me, its another SE (Brawlstick). It was on clearout in the madcatz canadian store so i decided to pick one up for cheap:

LS-32 lever, Sanwa buttons.

Nice looking stick, you've always had good themes for your mods.

Exar's Exaprize sanwa edition. although, they fucked up with the JLF mounting.

there's also hori's FS VX/V3. after mods.

edit - as for best looking stick, i personally find the white case HRAP's to still be the nicest bunch. :) (HRAP2, 2SA, EX-SE).

anyone wanna chime in on how comparable HORI's RAP "NX" or "N3" (TekkenTag2, Gundam, DeadOrAlive etc) series of sticks compares to original HRAP's? in terms of weight and overall bulkiness i mean.

I have yet to try one for myself, but from impressions that I've found around online it sounds like the N3 model Hori sticks are pretty much the best yet from Hori. They are solid and wide without being too big. Hefty without being overly heavy. The start button placement is genius, and the cable compartment is apparently pretty sturdy and spacious too. It's the perfect stick, pretty much. The only thing wrong with it is that it's not dual-modded.

I know this is some low-ball stuff but I wonder if anyone has experience with the hori mini sticks

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0086CTQXG/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I dont have much experience with arcade sticks and ive been meaning to make my own, but this seems to be a good price and the size of it has me less worried regarding customs (stuff tends to get taxed when shipped internationally if its big).

worth it? too uncomfortable?

also wondering how it'll work with PC

edit: open to similarly priced suggestions (that provide international shipping)

Can anyone recommend me a reputable US site to buy Sanwa buttons and a Sanwa stick for my old SF4 Fightstick SE? I've been meaning to upgrade that for a while ever since one of the buttons started sticking but never got around to it.

I bought one of those for my girlfriend. She uses it in Skullgirls and seems to like it. I haven't even bothered trying to play fighting games on it. The buttons are small and the placement feels off for someone with larger hands. They don't have that satisfying click that you get from Sanwa or Seimitsu buttons. I also had to put felt on the bottom to keep it from slipping all over the place. It's very small and light. She plugged it into her laptop and it was immediately recognized when she played a copy of Alpha 2 she bought on GOG.

As a neat little extra stick, it's pretty cool. I have played some brawlers with it, and it got the job done for that. I imagine it would be okay for shmups as well. It's vastly inferior to any larger option, though. I'd really only recommend it as a stick to travel with if you find it inconvenient to lug around a Brawl Stick (which can also be had for really cheap).

Anyone have a Qanba Q1 and use it on their PC? It says it's plug and play, but my computer says it doesn't have drivers for it. When I search for them, nothing is ever found.

I have one. Mostly as kinda a joke, but I tried it out because it'd be convenient if it worked alright. It didn't. WAY too light. Cramped space is an issue, but it'd be usable if it weren't so light. Everytime I try to do a motion, the whole stick moves with me so that it's nearly impossible to do said motion unless I really concentrate on not moving the stick. Not Sanwa either (or even clones) but the parts aren't super terrible from what I've heard. They're just not good either.

I think focusattack.com is the go to place now.
Better, but I'd personally wait till a better deal. You said international? I have no idea when sales would be in your country, but if you were a US citizen, I'd recommend to wait until the stick hit $30 shipped which happens quite often.

I guess if its too flimsy I can try to find ways to hold it down

mostly it's just the fact that I dont demand much from sticks having not used that many. They're super hard and expensive to get here (Uruguay), and (as just happened in this thread) when I suggest another one more expensive the response I get seems to be "id wait for something else that's a bit more money" and it just keeps piling up :p

guess im looking to get back into a feel for sticks without spending a lot of money. If I fall in love with the whole thing again I can try to order something better

besides those 2, I guess I could also take a look at this

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0057WDBHA/?tag=neogaf0e-20

but at that point I might be going a bit overboard/not sure if worth it

consider this: I can either get the mini for $35, or get something like that around $70. Is the difference really worth it or am I at that point getting into the "nah spend $100+ on one" territory? cause Im not gonna do that atm

also: I have small hands

so i just bought a LS-32-01 today, and im wondering how difficult it is to swap out my jlf on one of my te's for it. will i need to flip the pcb on the semitsu like some of the guides say? or is there an easier method?

I love that V3. I'm a Hori fanboy, though. I've had issues with both Qanba and Mad Catz sticks I've owned, but I've never had a problem with a Hori.

The buttons on the V3 are a bit mushy and changing them involves some serious soldering, but if you have no plans to put in new parts it's a nice budget stick. I wouldn't pay more than $60 for it, though. At $70, you're getting to the point where you'd be better off waiting for one of the higher quality sticks going on sale for $100. I can promise you there will be sales next weekend during Evo. It would be a bit foolish to order one now.

I also have small hands. The biggest problem with the Fighting Stick Mini is how easy it is to move around, but if you don't have a problem with that then it's probably usable. Only you know how much your own budget is. That being said, I think the Brawl stick is definitely worth it over the Fighting Stick Mini. Not worth it at $100 more, but maybe $20 more.

I sent the amazon seller an e-mail saying if he could price match the brawl one with another sale going on for $30 (and apparently their sale got that price often) so we'll see. The MadCatz being easy to mod might mean saving money and getting new parts instead of a new stick down the line so that's the only thing holding me back from the mini. I'll decide tomorrow.

ah wait shit. Now I hear that PS3 sticks have some issues being recognized on PCs? :/

im getting it for PC use, and all the 360 sticks are more expensive for some reason

ugh

I heard the same, but that can be fixed with a different usb card (from what I've read). Also, did you find a brawl stick on sale for $30?

dude hasnt responded yet

I have an ASUS P8P67 wich has an Intel chipset. Apparently it should work fine without need for MotionJoy or anything. It's the Nvidia chipsets that screw it up for some reason, according to the internet

Gotta get a new stick lest these fighters current and incoming go to waste. This PDP pad just won't cut it. I was very pleased with my HRAP3 when I had it, though I may want a stick with a wider base because I rest it on my lap.

I've never had a problem with any of my Hori or MadCatz sticks on my PC (some sort of Intel chipset, not sure of version). I'd also recommend the Hori Fighting Stick as a good entry point. Yeah, it's not arcade spec, but it's close enough to where you feel like you're manipulating actual arcade controls. The Mini is too small to be accurate. The MadCatz Brawlstick is also a great low end device, that can be modded with actual components for arcade perfect control.

Is the Hori Fighting Stick Mini 3 decent if I just want a cheap PS3/PC stick? I play fighting games rarely but if like to try a stick out for once.
