Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

So I figured out apparently there's a switch on the stick that messes up the RB and LB buttons, I don't know why it does this or what their intended function is, which is weird. Which also means someone was in my room touching stuff, because I never messed/mess with those buttons. Way too many buttons that are useless on this thing.

However, I did take it apart last night and was pleasantly surprised by how DIY it is. I took the buttons out, cleaned them, and replugged everything back in after I took a tester to each of the buttons' two prongs and everything was fine. So yeah, went well, I'm glad I didn't buy new buttons.

Didn't one of them crap out on Perfect Legend during the National tourney?

I was there at the National Tournament. I actually got pretty far. I got 9th place, lol.

The block button got stuck on one of the sticks used on the main stage. In fact, it was acting iffy all day but no one called it out (I played on the same stick). If you watch the match where I got eliminated, you can see I start doing EX versions of moves and wasting meter out of nowhere. It's because the block button was randomly activating! GRRR.

So later in the tournament, Justin Wong got up on there and the block button just stuck on the whole time during a match and he had to stop and claim the malfunction. It took awhile before anyone did anything so he was there saying 'HELP, WHAT DO I DO?' before they finally stopped the match haha. It was hilarious.

Also everyone in the crowd was heckling and asking me if I had an arcade stick to use (knowing that I work at Mad Catz). lol. Good times.

I'm going to back up the old SDT site and update the tech pages for each individual arcade stick from PS1 era until now.

Extremely exclusive Platinum Capcom Cup Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition 2. 12 of 24 of these will be auctioned on eBay and proceeds will go towards the Philippine Red Cross relief efforts for Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda.

If you're bidding on #23, good luck. I'm bidding on that one too.

This is a really nice gesture!

I do recall seeing somewhere that MarkMan has part-Filipino blood is that true though?

Okay, real talk. Why do all of these one-off sticks for special events always look so much better than anything else Madcatz offers in terms of design?

Hey Mark, could you elaborate for this mere mortal on the issues?

Have you received yours yet?

Friend of mine says that this caused drop inputs on both controllers and had input lag. This was the old version, though. Not sure about this one, but doesn't instill confidence.

I am Filipino, yes.

A lot of times we are limited to what we can do with licensed IPs. When we have more freedom we can make them look cooler. Sometimes I have no say, but when I do. I try to make it look cool. :)

This one was directed by me and my core team.

Oh my gosh, that's absolutely gorgeous. I'd bid on one of them too if I ever planned to get an Xbone, but you should take some pictures if you win!

This is an Xbox 360 stick. :)

I posted earlier, but didn't get a response. Is modding a ps3 stick easy? I got the hybrid namco te2 and am planning my first mod on it. Assuming the only item I need is the ps360+ or another analogous circuit board?

When will these be going on eBay?

oh wow, i woke up to these, already at that prices... they are gonna be the most expensive fightsticks ever haha, good luck to the bidders, fightin for a good cause :D

Ok, so I know everyone does mods for the 360 and PS3 and stuff these days, so I hope you don't mind me posting about a recent conversion job I did for something a bit different.

May as well say from the start that I'm not that great with this type of thing, as I'm all thumbs with a soldering iron, and have little patience and perseverance.

Anyways. I modded a DC arcade stick to make it work on my neo geo, supergun and a CPS2 copy of SFZ3 that I just bought.

I previously wired up a standard DC stick many years ago and didn't do a great job, this time I decided to replace the buttons and stick with decent sanwa gubbins.

This is wired for the Neo Geo and Supergun (including CPS2 functionality) only, so, at present there is no DC compatibility. This is because in my previous attempt I decided to not bother using this on the DC as I have a second DC stick that I am keeping stock. WIth hindsight I would have kept the functionality, - I hardly play my DC anyways, so it's no biggie (I may revisit this if I get really bored as I still have the important bits and pieces, more on that later).

Ok, so mounting the sanwa stick wasn't so hard, except for when I rounded over a screw head trying to take the top plate off the sanwa stick - you have to take the mount plate off to get it fitting flush.

I used a dremel to smooth off the mounting surface (there were plastic mount posts that needed to be snapped off so that the stick would fit nicely), drilling out the holes for the sanwa was no probs and fixing with screws and nuts was a cinch, because the top of the stick is in a recessed area (how convenient).

The next part was wiring it up. As I wanted to play some street fighter games, I had to plumb in the kick harness, and whilst I could do this via wiring in the kick loom into my SIGMA Jamma harness, I didn't fancy my shitty soldering skills on the fingerboard.

This would mean that my arcade stick would need two input / outputs for CPS2 stuff and just the normal connector for my neo or the rest of my arcade games.

Not only that, but I would then have to sort out the 4th button wiring to work when using the neo etc. I solved this by adding a switch to re-route connections on one of the 'kick' buttons.

Here is the wiring half done;

All that remained (apart from tidying up), was to fit the new buttons - which don't fit through the face plate that goes on the top of the stick.

I had to file out the holes to make them fit and it didn't take that long to do it by hand (was quicker than using the dremel) but it was a bit hard going and my hands were a bit roughed up afterwards.

And here is the finished deal, it still needs some tidying up - and in that photo the switch hadn't been fitted hence the loose wires taped up.

The yellow button is coin and the 'old' smaller green button is start.

I need to flush fit the switch and plug for the CPS2 harness, and will probably replace the small green button with a square button that I got (which is just too small to fit in the VMU slot, so I'll have to fanny around with that.

It's by no means flashy, a bit half arsed and amateur, but it works and I'm happy. Having a proper stick is amazing compared to what I was using before!

In the future, I may replace the stick and buttons on my current 'stock' DC, keep the DC functionality and just add compatibility to my neo and supergun ... Possibly I may also get one of those PS3 boards and go the whole hog.

I will help you out.

There are ways to mod a PS3 stick to work on another console. You can use a 360 PCB chained through a Toodles IMP PCB. You can take the sorta easier way with the PS360+ PCB since wiring is a bit easier and very minimal soldering. There are a couple of videos on YouTube for installing the PS360+ to a PS3 TE stick specifically so you can still use the control panel.

I got the Wii U Madcatz TTT2 stick today, and I'm thinking it might be nice to also use with my PS3. The Mayflash Wii Classic controller to PC adapter works with PS3 right? I'm pretty sure it does, but I just want to confirm.

Also, skimming through the thread again, I want to nominate hibachifinal's dodonpachi custom stick for mod of the year.

Got my XBONE padhack working, inside of a PS3 HRAP3. The PS3 PCB is still active, but I pulled out the second USB for now as I don't need the PS3 stick.

It used to be a 360 pad inside, which is why I had terminal strips installed in it, making for a little extra wire.

Huge shout out to the SRK tech talk dudes for figuring out how to make this all go.
