Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Fighting Edge mine by the end of the week. :)

I'll wait and see how the buttons are first before I do anything with them and I already ordered white dust cover/shaft and a bat top. I'm going to start playing using them from now on. Also will look into silent buttons since even with music blasting normal buttons can be way too loud and annoying in a late night trying to chill atmosphere.

Can someone please explain the advantages of learning how to use Hitbox for me?

Picture for those that don't know what I'm talking about:

R3_1024x1024.jpg

Some stuff seems like it would go from near impossible to do to fairly consistent. For example- in umvc3, Strider has an instant overhead you can perform by double tapping up fwd and then hitting H. On a traditional stick, doing the double up fwd motion accurately+quickly enough is difficult. On a hitbox, you'd just double tap up and left/right twice together- super easy. In general, it'd be near impossible to hit diagonals and such if you didn't want to too, which would be really nice.

I'm getting my White Fighting Edge this week too!

I found out that the parts they're selling on their site for Hayabusa/Kuro will only come in black. The white parts are exclusive to Japan at this time. >.< !

There goes my hope of getting a 360 all white.

Markman: Do you have any way I could test dropped inputs using a cronusmax.

Friends are telling me it makes the side NOT using it drop inputs. I guess there were reports at DTN saying that happened, and that it lags. I don't know how to test lag, but I plugged the cronus max into 2p and played on 1p and did repetitions of buttons and specials over and over and saw no dropped inputs.

My White FE is at the UPS store now. I'll post some pics in a few hours. :D :D

Real-world pics of FE White when they come in please!

I'll post some! The colors used on the white FE with LEDs on are one of my favorite color combinations!

Light blue/white! Fiyah!

My favorite Jordan sneaker:

My favorite stick (aesthetically):

One way to test is by using Virtua Fighter frame counter and do a set combo/rhythm or even use turbo to help see dropped inputs (based on frames).

One easy test I do for Tekken is have my brother wavedash/lightdash and see how smooth it is. With bad converters in the past you can definitely see the consistency/lack thereof depending on how smooth the converter is with successive motions on lever movement and buttons.

Sometimes converters don't drop inputs until you transfer more data (hold more than one input down), etc.

So there are lots of things to consider. There is no sure fire way as each converter is different.

Mods, hope this is okay. I'll be posting this in here for the new page to build awareness for our cause and the live event going on this weekend. Also, if I can make a thread on it, please let me know.

Pat was a great guy in the NorCal TEKKEN community and was an arcade tech aficionado. I would often have conversations with him about the latest crazy in arcade sticks whenever I saw him at gaming industry events or fighting game tournaments. As such we are running a donation drive to help raise funds for Patrick’s family. The donation drive is going on now and ends at the end of day on Jan. 24, 2014. There will be prize incentives for all that donate as our thanks for supporting this noble cause. Special thanks to NorCal TEKKEN, SoCal TEKKEN, SDTEKKEN, Super Arcade, Mad Catz, Hori, Bandai Namco Games Inc. and everyone else who has supported our efforts so far!

The prize incentives for donating will be held separately. For every donation of $10, the donor’s name will be entered in a prize drawing to win a number of prizes including:

  • Mad Catz’ Capcom Cup ‘Platinum’ Arcade FightStick TE2 for Xbox 360
  • Mad Catz’ EVO 2010 ‘GOLD’ Arcade FightStick TE for PlayStation 3
  • Tekken Tag Tournament 2 ‘Christie Monteiro’ Kotobukiya Bishoujo Statue
  • Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Exclusive Mokujin/Anna Williams Poster
  • … and a lot more (waiting to compile a full list early next week), including prototype arcade sticks, Tekken merchandise, and more!

Bandai Namco's head honcho for all things TEKKEN will also be donating some TEKKEN & Soulcalibur related items to be included in the donation prize incentives. Hori is also seeing what they can do to help.

If you donate $20, your name will be entered twice. If you donate $100, your name will be entered ten times, etc. We will have pics/info on the prize incentives in a few days. The donation drive end date will be end of day on Jan. 24, 2014. The prize drawings will be done on Jan. 31, 2014 after the PayPal donations have cleared.

Additionally the Southern California TEKKEN community will be having a memorial tournament event in honor of Patrick at Super Arcade on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014. All proceeds from the tournament entries go towards Patrick’s family.

I'm also anxious to see some white FE shots. It's too much for me, but I still love me some eye candy.

On my black FE, I took the kuros out after like 5 minutes, so I never really used them.

I'm going to do the same thing with the white. :/ I really don't like them. They squeak, it feels like they stick sometimes, and they're just not as good as Sanwas or Seimitsus. Loving the stick otherwise. My favorite plastic stick. The size is just so perfect for me.

I'm putting clear/white Sanwas in my FE!

I got this stick today.

I got excited for a bit because i thought the shop made a mistake and sent me the VF Dash version...

that hype died when i opened it up it was just the 3 Button version inside. haha.
oh well, that's what i originally ordered anyway.

I aim to collect all VF related sticks. if you wanna help out and do some trades (i have TE's and HRAP's) hit me up.

OMG what a tease!

Finally ordered my White FE. It has been painfull since I'm away from home till the 25th and did not want the package sitting on the doorstep for too many days while I'm gone.

Yay! First new stick of the year for me!!!

I am so confused.

I'm trying to use my Hori RAP VX-SA (360 ver) on my PC. It's not as simple as plug and play, is it?

I tried Xpadder, but it doesn't seem to be detecting any buttons. Works fine on my 360. I figured it would work the same way the wired 360 pad works on my PC.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Brawl Stick with Crown installed taken using Vita's blurry camera. Mounting plate didn't quite fit vertically so I turned it sideways until I can make it fit normally, hence the missing button. I think I'll call it my North Korean Edition until then, lol.

I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone who posts in this thread, but for the curious lurkers, the Crown feels just right with Tekken. The higher tension makes firing out wgf's feel really snappy relative to Sanwas. I tried it out with some 2D fighters, and I still prefer using a JLF with those.

I think I've asked about this here before, but GAF, I need to know about SNES sticks. All I know is I've been told to avoid the official one, the "Super Advantage" I think it's called.

There were quite a few. From mainstream releases there was the ASCIIWare Super Advantage and the Capcom Power Fighter Stick among a few others.

In EU there was the Score Master arcade stick that was licensed/distributed by Nintendo EU.

might be harder to find in relatively minty condition (and harder to find in general) but how bout the all-metal Hori fighting stick for super famicom?

(or wait, are super famicom controllers also region locked?)

If you want a dedicated stick, get the Capcom Fighter Power Stick if you can find one.

If all you want is a stick that works on SNES, I'd recommend getting a cheapish stick, maybe a Bral Stick or something, and swapping the PCB for a MC Cthulhu. Then you'll have a SNES stick that also works on NES, PC, PS1/2/3, Saturn, DC, Xbox1, Gamecube/Wii and PC-Engine.

only region locked controllers I can think of are the famicom, PCE/TG16, and WiiU.
Fami/NES and TG16/PCE due to different I/O ports, and Wii U gamepad due to firmware lockout

I have a few controllers developed for Super Famicom here, works on an SNES fine.

As for stick options, these are what I have:

Levers are great (not sure if they're the Seimitsus or the cloned levers that came later) but I found them hard to use due to the way they're angled.

I don't think the CPSF stick ever came with a Seimitsu lever. The early models came with a Sanwa JLW and the later ones had an unbranded clone lever.

Yup, IMO, all SNES sticks are worth avoiding, except this one...

I want an XE-1 too, because it's from Micomsoft and it's also programmable.

Typically, I'll use my HRAP2SA and tototek PS -> SNES adapter when I want to use a Stick for SNES/SFC games though.

speaking of micomsoft.

their stuff has some of the best typographical elements i've seen on an arcade style joystick (and general gaming equipment) imo.

xe-1-he-pro-4.jpg

but yeah that hori sfc stick is quite the tank i'd imagine

looks like an XRGB mini.

I'm thinking of selling my SSF2 Chun Li TE stick. I know it's worth a little bit, only problem is i swapped the buttons with the yellow ones from the MvC2 stick because I liked how they looked better than the Xbox controller colored ones it had.

Hopefully it still sells.

Damn! Is that stick available anywhere?

They show up on eBay quite a bit. Sometimes they don't show up on search and you have to go into the big japanese eBay shops and go through that way to find them. Not as hard to find as you would think. But $150-$200 usually for mint. Ghey usually are in better shape than other sticks released at the time.
