Super Secret Sega Sequel??

So I remember a couple weeks back, it was a big deal cuz some long-forgotten Sega franchise was getting a surprise sequel. People were calling Shenmue 3 or NiGHTS, but it turns out it is actually Alex Kidd. Not sure if that got out on these boards yet or not, but I saw it in the back of a European game mag. I think it may have been XBM or Games. Not sure which. Is that old news now?

Ahhh the days when you didn't have to put in a cart to have a good time on Master System...

I hope this is true. And I hope its good... and not one of these craptacular remakes a la Altered Beast

alex kidd? Some guys on this forum will go apeshit over that. I missed out on pre DC Sega... no excitement here.

Plus ... I've experienced what they did to E+TJ on xbox.

LOL @ Toejam & Earl

Really though, Alex Kidd games were the shiz back in their day. Basically it was like a side-scrolling platformer with RPG elements thrown in there. And this was back before every company started doing it. We're talking late eighties early nineties here.

You'd run through levels, but you could stop and go in most of the buildings along the way and buy items that would help you progress through the level. I remember saving up a lot of money so I could buy a helicopter to get me through some of the areas.

Boss fights consisted of Rock, Paper, Scissors showdowns. For real. You'd have to defeat a boss in a one-round battle if you wanted to progress. You could buy mind-reading devices though to cheat and make victory a lot easier. You'd basically get to watch what the boss was thinking and then keep switching your pick to the appropriate symbol before it was time to play the hand.

Pretty cool game for its time. A sequel could be real interesting.

ToeJam and Earl 3 felt alot like the original. It is true to the original game. Heck the original developers made it. So if you didn't like it: (a) nostalgia warped your memorey of the original game (b) you either never played the original game or wouldn't like the original now if you played it. I liked Toejam and Earl 3.

Also is this Alex kid one of the Sega ages remake?

Alex Kidd was *shit*, the character was a *shit* answer to Mario before they figured out Sonic. Miracle World was the first game I owned, and sure I loved it back then, but that series has no place in todays world.

it's like a current gen SEGA game. no fun

Yeah I guess the current gen Nintendo games are like the current gen Sega games. No fun..huh. Becuase I have heard alot of people say the current Ninitendo games are not as good as the past generations.

But seriously, the new ToeJam and Earl is just as fun as the Genesis ToeJam and Earl/ If you had fun with the old you should have fun with the new one, becuase they play just alike. Btw Sega made quite a few AAA titles this Gen.

Hey to hell with anyone who says Alex Kidd isn't worth bringing back. If you didn't play the Genesis version of the game, keep your trap shut.

Sonic4Ever is right. Nintendo remakes old games and they're fucking awesome. Metroid, Zelda, Mario, etc. Some of you should be a little more open-minded when it comes to Alex Kidd's return. It could be fuckin cool if you know the series at all.

the idea of bringing back alex kid seems crazy on the surface, but what the hell? i'm intrigued. I loved the genesis alex kid game a lot. It was one of the first 16 bit games i ever played. I don't have much expierience with the master system games, but i have a lot of nostalgia for the ganesis version... it's a very quirky series and the idea of seeing it envisioned in 3d intrigues me.

Bring strange sideburn man back on PSP or DS and I'm there. Not sure what the point would be on a console; it doesn't really fit.

Um. That's cause Sega has been a) shit this gen b) NIntendo's franchise revivals have been decent.

With a name like Alex Kidd... you expect it to sell if gamers have no nostalgia factor? :lol :lol

Actually Sega has not been crap this Gen. Thier Franchise revivals have been just a secent as Nintendo.
Shinobi
Panzeer Dragoon orta
outrun 2
Virtua fighters 4
Toejam and earl 3
Ecco the Dophin
Sonic adventure
Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 and 2.
Jet Set Radio future
House of the Dead 3
are all good games.

other new fanchises that are good
Super Monkey Ball.
Skies of arcadia
Beach spikers
Billy Hatchers.

I welcome Sega trying to bring back old Franchises. Sega can't seem to win no matter what they do. People cry for some old fanchises reborn: Nghts, Burning Rangers, Streets of Rage, ect..
When they do remake one, then it like "why did they make that game."

As for Nintendo being so great, I have heard many people cry that Nintendo no longer makes thier games as good as they used to. Things like Mario Sunshine is crap, Zelda : wind Waker is to easy, and Metroid Prime is no good. Do I believe these people, No. I also feel you seem to have some Bias against Sega.

To say Sega totally sucks this generation is incorrect. Have they constatly made as many great games as they did when they were supporting thier own system? no. The thing is they no longer have to bring out 50 games a year, becuase they no longer support thier own system.
I will say one thing, Besides Outrun2 and Puyo Puyo Fever, I feel 2004 was a bad year for Sega, but before that it was all gold.
I know the Sega I love will return in time.

BOARDROOM MEETING IN OTAH-KU, TOKYO:

Satomi: Hmmm. This new character franchise shit (points to Billy Hatcher on projector) doesn't seem to be working, does it chaps?

Oguchi/Naka: But, it would look better on next generation platforms sire, if we spend a million dollars on a swanky new graphics engine!

Satomi: The shit still would not sell, you fools! Are you blind! What else do we have in that stinking back-catalog of yours?

Naka: Howz 'bout Sonic?

Satomi: You must be taking the piss, the best that spiky twat can do these days is one week on top in the UK and all the new versions are shit anyway. I mean what do we have from the olden days?

Oguchi: Okawa-san once told me he had this IP called Alex Kid back in the day.

Satomi: SO DESU NE?!?!?!11oneLOL? Well I might as well let you feel like you get to make SOME decisions around this shit-hole building. Go have the old Smilebit temps design a modern version and let's see it lose more money than all the recent attempts at IP resurrection like Altered Beast.

THEN I can reveal all my western superdevelopers and all our ACTUAL IP that I have given to them to MAKE ACTUAL MONEY FROM! Ha ha. Meanwhile, get back to that Pachinko design you fuckwits. Or find a tent to live in.

I don't know if this was intentional or not, but the Sega offices are the very definition of "shithole." They look like a college building built back in the 1970's.

The management floor has some nice decoration for Oguchi, the other floors are overcrowded... shit holes. But each floor has some FINE PUSSY, let me tell you!! :D

Man, that dialog is painful. Was it supposed to be funny? I can appreciate mockery, but goddamn. Tell us about the fine ass pussy on each floor though, that is at least interesting.

some game names from the 80s and 90s sure don't translate well into 2005

At my age I don't think I could pick up

"WONDER Boy"

or

"Alex the KID"

without slapping myself first

Way to go, Sega. Release a sequel to your first mascot series, whose "heyday" was arguably when no one was paying attention to you anyway.

Fucking brilliant.

Wonderboy could get a Tenacious D tie-in and use the song for the main theme. Jack Black could be the star of the game. The object would be to eat as many chicken McNuggets in a set amount of time as possible.

Alex Kidd games were AWESOME on Master System. Especially that Alex Kidd in Hi-Tech World one, the RPG-ish kinda.. thing..a...ma..jig.

Teddy Boy and Wonderboy need to fucking get some love again, too. They're so lonely.
