Villager takes a single projectile and can use it later. Game & Watch absorbs the damage of three projectiles and combines them into his own unique short range projectile. They're... not very similar at all.What exactly differentiates Villager's "projectile pocket" to G&W's down special? Just that it's potentially quicker and as a result broken?
Also G&W can only absorb energy-based projectiles if I recall correctly, whereas Villager can pick up anything.
On Tom Nook, I kinda doubt he'll be playable but I would be very much all right with it. Tom Nook is great and I always thought he would make a better AC rep than Villager anyway.
