I can't really comment on The Masked Man since I haven't play the game yet. I'm still waiting for them to bring it to America, which is very doubtful.

Absolutely! I feel as though Sakurai and the development team would make him a unique addition to the roster.
I also played Mother 3. Love the game, loved his character. Dude was a badass.
Question though (story spoiler)
Would they name him as 'Claus' if he were to be included or would they just use something like 'The Masked Man'?

Masked Man? Hmm, interesting. I'd first like Lucas and Ness to be fixed a little *cough*PSI Rockin/PSI Love*cough* and more Mother representation in general (seriously, not even the full parties got trophies in Brawl), but I do agree that we ever got a 3rd rep, I'd be either a clone Ninten or him, which I could see as a more agressive Mother character.

I feel like if Mother were to get a 2nd Mother 3 rep, this guy would be the absolute best choice, since much like Robin his moveset would greatly contrast with the other reps in his series.

The Masked Man... not a bad choice. He'd definitely make for a unique Mother newcomer, in that he'd probably play very differently from Ness and Lucas... a Robin-like newcomer for the Mother series, if you will.
It'd still be weird for him to be known as "Masked Man" in a theoretical roster, though. It'd be better if he was known by his actual name, but then that might defeat the whole point, so... I digress.

Masked Man is definitely a character I wouldn't object to. I wish I could comment more but I've yet to fully play Mother 3.

Well, I guess Sheik is too, but at a certain point you just have to go "fuck it" and do what's best for the roster. If they'd release it in America, we could get the story out there more and then it wouldn't be as big of a deal. My two cents, anyway.

So is Sheik though, at least in Melee and Brawl where she is a Zelda transformation. Smash seems to be pretty okay with spoiling games.

For those who aren't aware of this character in Mother 3, he's explained to be a pretty quick and agile swordsman. But when you faced him, he was tough. Plus, as a PSI user, he doesn't use as many PK or PSI moves compared to Lucas or past lead characters like Ness, but he focuses more on sword combat. I believe he can do PK thunder, and PK (again spoilers)
love which is similar to his brother Lucas as it's their ultimate move.

I was about to point out Zelda and Sheik, but I guess his identity plays a much bigger part to the character development of the cast and story.
Man I wish Mother 3 wasn't spoiled to me front and back.

I've never played Mother 3, so I really don't know anything about Masked Man. What sort of abilities does he have? Is he just a standard swordsmen, or can he use PSI powers like Ness and Lucas? If so, and if he can have totally different powers than those two (i.e., not the semi-clone special moves Lucas has,) then I'd be all for it. More Earthbound representation is always welcome.

In the lead up to Brawl, I was convinced, convinced, that Masked Man was going to be a playable character.
They had already announced Lucas, Pokey, the Franklin Badge and New Pork City. But somehow Masked Man was absent.
That's like having Luke Skywalker, the Emperor, lightsabers and the second Death Star, but not Darth Vader.

No, because in total there were 38 choices and I'm only counting down the top 20 to go with the POTD. So, today's will be 20. I don't want to reveal the runner-ups until after the winner is revealed to keep things more interesting, but once everything's done I'll post the breakdown of votes for everyone.

Yes, but he's not as varied in PK skills. He's more focused on using his sword and fucking people up with it. Plus he flies around in a jetpack, and unlike the charismatic Ness and Meek Lucas, Masked Man is a silent killer type. Literally.

It's honestly one of the better Mother/Earthbound choices. You have obscure Ninten (who's basically Ness with a scarf) , Porky (reoccurring villain), and Masked Man (hahaha, Sakurai already spoiled this guy's backstory in Brawl).
You should fix this. Stop whatever you're doing and play Earthbound and Mother 3, man.
