Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

OK guys, can we talk about something actually important right now?

Top 3 composers you want to see do stuff for this soundtrack go.

For me:

Hideki Naganuma

Well, the Samus thing is kind of an akward position, isn't it?

Smash Bros has always been a Nintendo fan-service and nostalgia fest, hasn't it? To that end, Samus in a Bikini has always, amusingly enough, been an important part of Metroid.

In the original Metroid you played as Samus: some vague cycborg, alien, Robot, guy thing with an arm cannon.

Then, at the end of the game you got one of these:
083010_metroidotherm_obs01--article_image.jpg

Wow! Samus is a girl! It was an unexpected twist! Also, the faster you played the less clothing she wore at the end of the game. Well...then.

Since then Samus's skimpy outfits have always been a strange sexy bonus for beating the game fast.

Well, Super Smash bros is supposed to reference Nintendo's history, and Samus in a two piece is a pretty memorable part of the Metroid series. So, is it Sakurai being Sexist or the original Metroid designers?

Harry Gregson Williams

John Williams

I don't know any game related composers.

French TV channels have started airing commercials for Smash Bros 3DS since yesterday. The game won't be out for another 6 weeks. It's such an ordeal watching them haha.

Yoko Shimomura, Yasunori Matsuda and Shoji Meguro (3rd one is never happening but whatever.)

I bet Matsuda would make some supremely awesome Zelda or Fire Emblem music just thinking about his work on Chrono Trigger/Cross.

oh man I just realized that this means 3DS version is getting Brinstar's awesome music. The Melee rendition has pretty much become the quintessential Metroid tune for me.

Wonder what the second track will be? Brinstar Depths, maybe?

But Kraid's Lair (Zero Mission and OG version) exists!

Our Final Roster is as follows. Bookmark this post. This is our final roster people:

Veterans: *Dr. Mario, Wario, Ganondorf, Falco, Wolf, Mewtwo, Jigglypuff, Ness, Ice Climbers, R.O.B., and Mr. Game & Watch
Newcomers: Koopa Car., Dixie Kong, K. Rool, **Impa/Ghirahim, Ridley, *Dark Pit, *Pikmin & Alph, Bandana Dee, Shulk, Chorus Men, **Mach Rider/Excitebiker, and Duck Hunt Dog

This leak is dubbed the WiiRevolution1 leak. You are welcome.

I still hope this isn't true. Please please don't be true. This is the 3rd leak saying the same thing. The others being from Smashboards from supposedly "reputable" individuals.

I'd be less annoyed if it came up in an image bonus on the end of samus' clear screen for classic mode, or something, then I could take it being a proper reference to metroid.

Being on screen all the time means (to me) that it's basically there for cheesecake and nothing else.

That's a pretty good list already. ;)

I'd love to get some David Wise contributions as well.

Edit: spino!!

Ok... overreaction aside, the fic hasn't been super horrible to me yet. Infact, aside from painting me as an airhead it's been rather complimentary. I'm hoping the time skip means I don' t have to worry too much about where that was going :P

You are loved and appreciated. C:

I wonder what that means to pass over custom movesets? Is it to share the item that could recieve? Or could it be like those statues in SSF43D where you pass by and your Amiibos have rng battle.

You know what'll be fun? Having to battle with every streetpass you get. So when you open up the 3DS, you get a 'CHALLENGER APPROACHING' with someone's custom moveset, and get something in return.

Huh. Look at that. But the why the mention of custom characters?

Sounds good. I still think the spinning top / tin pin slammer game will be a streetpass thing too :3

What are you talking about, Zero is Megaman Zero. He's a Mega Man!
Haha, oh my God, I'm having war flashbacks to that argument.

Oh god, yeah, I was thinking about that when I made that post. :P Didn't that end up getting Beelzebufo banned for a little while?

Yeah I wouldn't really want Zero in myself, in addition to that and well, I feel like he doesn't hold his weight compared to the other 3rd parties in the grand scheme of things to be included, if that makes sense.

Super Smash Bros! Play with Mario and friends featuring special guests such as Pacman, Sonic, and Meg- Zero! Zero too!

Ugh this just reminds me of Zero being in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 lol but not Megaman but eh whatever not important.

Arggghhh, I hear you. I was so pissed about that back during the MvC 3 release hype. I don't even play the MvC games, but that all happened back when the Mega Man fanbase was already being shat on in every other possible way... Mega Man getting cut from MvC was just one more crappy thing.

Of course, little did I know how much better things would soon get. ;)

That crazy-ass rumor that adds like 12 DLC characters "just to the WiiU version" smells like bullshit. In fact, it stank. Picture me saying that in Chris Tucker's voice. Stank!

I'll save you the trouble. Its not. The only 4chan leaks that have been proven credible is the PS4 guy who leaked Bloodborne and maybe this new PS4 game.

But he has footage to share. Guys who just spam text aren't credible.

I said in the post that its the WiiRevolution1 leak. Thats right, now I am an insider. Even I was shocked.

Haha, my bad... I didn't realize you were just trolling. I don't think I've actively noticed you post outside of that, and something your "leak" seemed legit. Well done. :P

Hideki Naganuma is a badass choice, though. He'd definitely be in my top 10.

It'd be awesome if Nobuo Uematsu contributed to SSB4, though it would probably have to be different from his work on Brawl considering the game's tone is way less serious and epic this time around, IMO. Same with Yasunori Mitsuda, though I don't think he made any real contribution to Brawl.

Motoi Sakuraba also does a pretty great job whenever he contributes so that'd be cool too.

Runner ups:

Koji Kondo

David Wise should compose at least half of the soundtrack

Also, the entire Tropical Freeze OST should be included

That doesn't count as part of David Wise's half, btw

Naganuma needs to work on Splatoon, so I won't make his dream workload any heavier. :P

Danny Baranowsky would be one. He's best known for composing the music for Edmund McMillen's finest, Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac. The music of Metroid could certainly sound interesting with Danny's style. Little bit weird, little bit infectious.

Banjo-Kazooie music will never make it into Smash, so Grant Kirkhope doing some killer remixes of Mario and Kirby tracks would be the next best thing. Just so long as he doesn't bring back the DK Rap with him.

Shoji Meguro. I wanna see him take some vocal tracks and spice them up: Mona Pizza in the style of Light Up The Fire In The Night, add some actual lyrics to the New Wave Bossa Nova, stuff like that. Persona's been hogging that amazing pop sound for too long, time to mix it with some old-school classics.

Oh God, false leaks appearing everywhere now. We're approaching that time.

They should just fill up the disc with as much random Nintendo music as possible. What's the point of high-density optical media if you can't even use it, amirite?

How'd you guys feel about the game including unaltered retro tracks in addition to the actual soundtrack? I think it'd be a fun and non-expensive way to add to the music selection. There's a ton of tracks I can think of that don't really need any tweaking to match SSB's action. Imagine playing with the original Megaman 2's Wily Castle track as the background!

So many awesome suggestions already. David Wise was definitely the next guy I'd have in my list after Yoko and Naganuma if I weren't in full hyperbolic post for humor's sake mode. With him on board, I could see DK getting massive compositions and remixes. If he were allowed to dabble into other franchises (much like a few of Brawl's composers did), I'd say he'd have some pretty awesome things to add to Metroid music as well.

Daisuke Ishiwatari would pretty much own face with lots of heavy rock/metal sounding things. I'd say he could fit into any franchise well. Much like how Naganuma being a master at sampling would probably crank out incredible things (remixes or recompositions)

Shoji Meguro is the one suggestion that came up here that got me stupid hype for something that'd probably never happen. As I have a lot of vocal songs from the Persona series on my WarioWare stage for Project M, I could only imagine what kind of fun things he'd do with vocal themes for the Smash soundtrack. Good job Coldman.

I wish there was a watermarkless version of the 3DS pic, but alas, the first image of a set is the only one that gets that privilege.

I was mostly fine with it in Melee and Brawl, I'll probably be fine with it here.

This should absolutely happen, and I think it will considering Brawl had tracks pulled straight from various games as well.

In fact, I'd be quite disappointed if it didn't happen. We need every single Wily Castle theme from each Mega Man game, unaltered, in Smash 4 as choices for Wily's Castle stage music.

Especially this, this, and this.

Mega Man 2's Wily Castle theme -- the one everyone loves -- is awesome and all, but there's too much other Mega Man music that's just as epic and awesome that doesn't get as much attention simply because it's not from Mega Man 2...
