Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

So I was shown this:

Think it'll solve our potential controller woes?

So, I initially drew this for Mother's Day, but with a little text added, I thought this would be good for Pic of the Day hype tonight:

Since, you know, we're definitely getting a Ness reveal as a belated Mother's Day gift.
I need Ness, please Sakurai

Yes plz.

The more I read about Ghirahim and Demise in smash, the worse I feel about stalling out in Skyward Sword at the end of the tutorial. I guess SS should be my #2 backlog game after sin and punishment 2.

Nah, it's ok, it's probably the worst 3D Zelda.
cue the mass of people who loved it

Meh. I'm not sure why so many people want those two in Smash. Neither of them were that noteworthy nor were the characters that original in the series. Id much rather have Groose or Impa if they chose an SS representative.

Ghirahim was one of the highlights of Skyward Sword, but I definitely don't think he should be playable. One-off Zelda villains make for more suitable Assist Trophies, like Skull Kid. Barring the introduction of some major recurring rival or sidekick or something, I don't think the playable Zelda roster will ever extend beyond variations of Link, Zelda, and Ganon.
Not that I think they're likely at this point, but I don't see how Tingle or Impa are out of the question for future games if we're following this rule.

I really enjoyed it, but man the tutorials in that game drove me crazy; they would just never stop hand holding. After how amazing A Link Between Worlds was at letting you do your own thing, I have high hopes Zelda U will be something special.

Not sure how you can straight face say that when Phantom Hourglass exists and is worse in almost every single facet, both games are good (ST is great) but I'm not sure how anyone can say PH > ST
Because depending on which model of the DS you had it was extremely difficult to get the flute mechanic working and somehow PH had a better overworld.

I really feel like it could go either way. Though, I have seen a few people suggesting Ghirahim is going to replace Ganondorf, which I think is crazy. There's no way they'd get rid of him because of a one game absence (and, SS spoilers
you could even argue he was in SS via Demise
)

Yeah, Ghirahim replacing Ganondorf just isn't gonna happen. Ganon(dorf) has been the lead antagonist since the very beginning, has starred in almost every major game in the franchise, and will almost certainly be appearing in several more to come. Ghirahim, however, was a one-shot villain made for one story and one story only, will almost certainly not be starring in any future games (beyond a possible SS port in about 10-15 years, because this is Nintendo after all) and, even in the game he starred in,
he ultimately played second fiddle to Ganon. Sorta
.

...Speaking of which, that's another big strike against Ghirahim. Besides games that replace their entire casts once every couple of installments (like Fire Emblem) and teh Pokeymans, Smash has usually avoided adding "flavor of the month" characters to the roster, favoring evergreens instead. Almost all the playable characters in Smash have appeared in several installments of their franchises and are fairly well established as major parts of those series' casts, while Ghirahim, as I stated, is a one-shot character whose will probably be rendered irrelevant to most within a couple of years, and would only really serve to date the game, much like Pichu and Roy in Melee.

Except we already have a one off character in Shiek so it's not impossible for it to happen

Wouldn't surprise me if they see Shiek as a technicality since she's still just Zelda in disguise rather than a completely different character.

And there's some evidence that Shiek was intended to be a recurring "character," at least based on TP's development. Girahim and Demise conveniently wrote themselves out of appearing in future titles.

@Fire Emblem items; a tome that allows you to cast fire/electricy/dark/wind magic based attacks would be pretty sweet. Or how about the Levin Sword, that shoots magic from a distance? It'd work as if Pikachu could select send his Thunder to another direction.

So I was shown this:

Think it'll solve our potential controller woes?

It would be a step up from our current options. Aside from the width/weight, everything feels like a perfectly normal Gamecube controller. It's great.

(A buddy of mine used to have one for PSO, we'd all use it for Smash now and then. I need to grab one for myself some day, if they're still findable.)

Don't mock my dreams!

I know Geno has no chance. :(

If you really, really wanna play as him in a Smash-Esque type game, you could try out Super Smash Bros Crusade. It's a bit early in the version numbers (It's in late beta I think?) but it's pretty decent. Just missing quite a few things that they're working on now, like pummel from a grab and things like that.

... I hope this isn't against a weird TOS thing here. >_> I don't remember reading anything about it so... yeah. Hope my butts off the burner.

*looks at WeekendGAF posts*

....good lord.

I personally am hoping for a Lucas return. Ive always tried to master or learn Ness since Smash 64 but he just never clicked with me, no matter how hard I tried. But when I got to try out Lucas for the first time at Gamestop release day for brawl.....it clicked right from the start. It was like Lucas was made for me. :P

Not a fan of his project M version....its okay I guess.

if skull kid ain't playable ghirahim sure as fuck don't deserve to be playable

perfect assist trophy

I'm still bitter the way they decided to use him for an AT. Flipping the stage upside down? Why? To create chaos? Here's another way to create chaos: Sending the moon onto the stage to crush your enemies

I've never heard of that, but I'll check it out. Thanks!

Huh, I just looked it up and it's pretty impressive for a small project made by a few fans. Shame there doesn't seem to be any controller support though. Playing Smash with a keyboard is awful.

I disagree about Demise. His set up seems like the kind of thing that could lead to him reappearing personally in future games, even though he has been absent up to now, only represented by the incarnation of his rage.

It's true that he wasn't just sealed in the Master Sword, and it was claimed that eventually he'd disappear completely, but that was all in vague terms without any set time. We've also seen Ganondorf resurrected from being outright killed, so they could do the same there even if he's dead.

Sheik was created as a Smash Bros. character as one half of Zelda, and continues to persist as a Smash Bros. character via nothing but precedent. Sheik's not comparable to Ghirahim at all.

Actually, going by the early Melee trailers, Sheik was originally meant as a stand-alone character, and regular Zelda was not going to be in the game at all.

Those trailers were from E3, not really "early". They were just keeping Zelda hidden for the surprise reveal closer to launch. IIRC, Sheik was never playable in any event demos before the Zelda reveal, unlike the other starting cast.

The earliest Melee trailer we got was released the year of the game's release. We never got any really early look at Melee, certainly not before any major character was added.

Wasn't Melee revealed like the E3 or Spaceworld the year it came out?

I would imagine something like a transformation mechanic would already be in concrete by then.

Zelda always transformed into Sheik. I believe her profile on the Melee site mentions that the mechanic was intentionally kept secret for a while.

Unlockable characters for the 3DS version would be cool.

But it would be kinda dumb for the Wii U version if both games have the same exact roster.

Lol maybe thats the connectivity they talk about, "unlock everything you have unlocked on 3DS on your WiiU!", would be so much fail D:
