Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

Ouch.

Sorry folks.

I can only commiserate with you as I mourn Dark Samus and Waluigi.

?
Nintendo had a Smash 3DS tournament and Kojima was attending the show. It was a perfect chance to reveal him if he was in.

Either the dev team or NCL's marketing would have the final say. Precedent has shown that outside of E3, reveals at western events are a no-go.

If Snake will be revealed, it'll involve different characters during his trailer. Either together with the other action heroes, or with a new character.

They're astronomically impossible, but an Elite Beat Agents / Ouendan trailer involving them cheering Snake on while accompanied by "It Has To Be This Way" would be ideal. Alternatively, something like this could work.

If there's any third party that would be an unlockable, it'd be Snake. Being found after being hidden is actually pretty central to his games. Plus, he's the first third party character to have been in Smash. Sonic in Smash 4 was a lock since before the game was first shown, due partially to how requested he was and partially to Nintendo and Sega having a big contract announced right before then. Snake can actually get away with being hidden, to the point where having him hidden might stir up more publicity for him than having him be revealed in a little pre-launch trailer a la Sonic.

Both parties gain from including Snake, Nintendo shows that it isn't so hostile to third parties by letting him back in, and Konami gains publicity for a game series with a big entry coming out soon. You might argue that this would make people want to buy other consoles to play MGS on instead of the 3DS and Wii U, but really, if they get excited for Snake in Smash, they already plan on owning a 3DS and Wii U.

However, despite all this, Kojima and Sakurai are two of the craziest motherfuckers in the industry, working for two companies known to make incredibly strange decisions, and trying to predict any of their actions is impossible.

Didn't Sakurai complain that Nintendo hasn't made many new franchises that could be represented in Brawl? Then he goes ahead and makes some of their best characters assist trophies while we get Mario's friends.

What the heck? We got the same damn Mario characters from Brawl plus Rosalina, who is pretty much Nintendo's star-themed character now and thus took whatever spot Geno might have had had he not been owned by Square Enix. It's not like the Koopalings, Baby Mario, or Pink Gold Peach showed up.

Nintendo had a Smash Wii U tournament, that even more people watched, and that Sakurai was at. Yet they revealed not one newcomer there. So I don't think this is a good point lol.

I'm sorry if I did appear angry or "not calm". That wasn't my intention. I was just replying back to explain my choices.
Alright. Just to clarify, I don't think Isaac is that unlikely to be in the game and Mewtwo is most likely coming back (though I don't think it will be based on the first movie Mewtwo anymore).
Elite Beat Agents / Ouendan trailer
I would love an Ouendan/EBA rep in Smash! Agents... are... GO!

I didn't understand the pictures (or I'm missing some reference right there) but I found Raiden laying back on that huge watermelon oddly funny.

I'm still baffled by that. Like totally.

I've tried to reason that maybe Nintendo was worried about the .0001% chance people would boo Pac-man. Or maybe Nintendo wanted to give journalists something exclusive to keep them happy. Both of these sound entirely insane and stupid, yet they're the closest things to a good reason I can come up with.
I guess maybe a third reason would be that they were worried about stream quality, but that sounds equally stupid, especially considering how shitty the E3 2013 stream quality was.

... Hasn't AT Isaac been confirmed?

Eh, I doubt Konami wants less publicity compared to Sonic and Pac-Man so a pre-release reveal would make sense. Wouldn't Konami also have to be credited on the box art?

What on earth is going on with his right arm?

Sheik-itis.

The Pac-Man thing could've been avoided if they decided to show Palutena instead: one character for the stream, one for the journalists, one for the invitational.

Nope, but he was a secret AT in Brawl.

Sonic got considerably less publicity than Pac-man and Megaman, having not gotten a CGI trailer and instead just getting game clips.
Arguaby, Megaman got even more publicity than Pac-man due to being revealed during a highly-watched stream and not at a roundtable.
Even for Brawl, Snake and Sonic had largely different reveals.

As for the box art, I don't believe so. First, they wouldn't have to be credited pre-reveal. Secondly, there's no Ubisoft credit yet despite Rayman being in the game.

Can anyone tell me what the deal with Bandana Dee is? Like, Waddle Dees are just regular enemies in Kirby games right? And Bandana Dee is playable in Return to Dream Land, but is there anything different about him compared to other Waddle Dees save the bandana? Like, does he have any personality or something?

To me it seems like adding a Goomba as a playable character but with the top hat and bow tie like one had in Mario Party 4 to make him unique or something.

If you ask me Snake was a soft disconfirm at E3 when Sakurai made a big deal about Mario, Sonic, Mega Man and Pac-Man being together as the big four mascots as well as the fact that Pac-Man's trailer focused on Mario, Sonic and Mega Man. To me it'd be weird to show Snake after all that.
He used to say the same about Mario, Sonic and Mega Man before Pac-Man was announced:

There was a leak that stated that an upcoming trailer had an odd bit with a Waddle Dee wearing a bandanna, despite not being a playable character. I don't know why people think he'll be playable.

Much like EVO was the "perfect" time for Falcon. Stop assuming Nintendo is going to reveal characters at random events when they haven't done so once for the whole run up to Smash 4's release. Not revealing Snake at Comic-con literally implies nothing.

Indeed, they might pull a Marth and just reveal Snake on a random day.

Bandana Dee is the only named Waddle Dee. Aside from that, being the series' fifth playable character and his spear moveset, there isn't much to distinguish him from the others.

Those are some passionate fans.

Yeah, I can see him making a comment like: "Who would've thought that someday you would have been able to play a match of Smash Bros. using four characters which aren't Nintendo characters? Now you can!" or some crap like that

I'm going to quickly run down a list of desired characters and tell you why they are garbage compared to Takamaru.

King K. Rool: Probably the worst addition you could make to Smash. He is a poor man's Bowser, and one of the most unoriginal bad guys in gaming. We already have enough heavy brawler characters who are much more imaginative. Also his entire motive is to steal bananas. Fucking BANANAS. His boss fight in DKC has is ridiculously lame. FINAL SMASH: Throw crown.

Dixie Kong: What if Diddy Kong was a girl? That is the extent of how much thought was put into the idea of Dixie Kong. She's got HAIR ABILITIES WOW. She can haircopter over gaps. That's way cooler than a barrel jetpack!

Daisy: Bob-Ombs are better developed characters than her. She barely gets into Mario Party games, and if Nintendo dumps her for Rosalina any chance they get.

Shulk: Heir to the Monado? More like heir to the worst main character design since Vaan in FFXII.

Chorus Men: Donkey Kong's final smash called, it wants its gimmick back.

Dark Pit: I can't believe this character actually has a chance of getting in. Yes, I know "evil" versions are a staple in many fighting games, but his inclusion would be a clear case of Sakurai playing favorites instead of trying to make the most diverse and interesting roster possible.

Hades: See Dark Pit.

Chibi Robo: Chibi Robo looks like something a three year old would draw. It is completely void of any character and its entire gimmick is that its small. Not to mention it has the most boring abilities you could imagine like cleaning and plugging itself in. The point of his game is to collect happy points. HAPPY POINTS.

Ray MK-2: He looks like one of those cheap knock off Gundams you find in Japanese capsule machines. He also has the same gimmick as Chibi Robo in that he's just a small robot. What's he gonna do, shoot lasers? Pit already stole that.

Bandana Dee: I refuse to even acknowledge this character.

Ghirahim: Ghirahim was only cool when he revealed his true form. Before that he was a stereotypical effite villain who did nothing. Neutral special: Stand there. Side special: Wave hand around.

Ridley: Nothing bad can be said about this majestic beast.

I read your comment as this:

Just woke up and saw the pic of the day, and immediately started catching up on the thread. Hilarious looking back that Takamaru hype was going on right before the announcement... and then Sakurai's description came out. XD XD XD

Possibly the best troll deconfirm aside from Waluigi.

Marked out Takamaru and opted out Toad for Captain Toad and Blaziken for Sceptile, as popularity seems to be dictating.

I can't even begin guessing who gets the red mark next. Some of them don't even seem to be popular enough for AT status.

He has excellent moveset potential.

Where is Sheriff from? Also, Duck Hunt Dog should be in this pic.

Was a playable character along with the main three Kirby characters in Return to Dreamland. He's also one of the few recurring Kirby characters at the moment unlike others that fell into obscurity. (Adeline, Rick, Gooey)

Galactic Knight was in triple deluxe, no? Was Bandana Dee in that?

HAHAHA! That was hilarious. Not happening anyway.

what in the fuck is your new avatar about? it's horrifying (kinda like it in a way though, it's grown on me for some reason. needs to be pushing out a giant hand to reference who the next assist trophy's gonna be tho)

No. Galacta was in Return the Dream Land but not in TD. Bandanna Dee is in both.

Pretty sure that's Waluigi dressed as Tingle. I sort-of approve.
