Smash - Multiplayer, Special Mode, etc
Game and More - Vault, Single Player Contents (Events, Classic, Adventure, All Stars, Home Run, etc), Opinions, Customization features, etc
Challenge - (YESSSS!) Panel
Online - Obviously it's for online modes
Smash Run - 3DS exclusive single mode
Street Pass - I'm very curious about this feature
Wii U - I wonder if new update would allow Wii U Game Pad to sync with 3DS so they can transfer Amiibo data to 3DS, and I'm pretty sure that there is connectivity.

Man I really am TORN on that 3DS/Wu connectivity. I mean I want to use it, whatever it is, but if it ends up unlocking all my Wii U characters at the same time, it makes me sort of not want to do it? I wonder if you can hook them up and exchange data but not force-unlock things at the same time. Though I mean after playing SSB3DS it could be frustrating to have dudes over to play SSBWU and oh look all the characters we like aren't there yet. But I don't wanna lose out on unlocking them!

I AM TORN!!!!

How many characters will be unlocked at the start?

SSB had 8 out of 12
Melee had 14 out of 25
Brawl had 21 out of 35

Let's say SSB4 has 48-50 characters. 35 available from the start? There are 35 characters now, and I'm sure all of them won't be selectable from the start.

At the very least we can probably expect something like Melee's Adventure Mode to be back.
I'm not sure about that. Everything Sakurai has said indicates no Adventure mode at all. All Adventure-like pictures we've seen have been from Smash Run too.

I think the third party characters will be unlockable (Sonic, Pacman, Megaman), but all others we know right now will be starters. There are still many veterans to be revealed, and not enough time at the pacing they're going, so I'm expecting those will be unlockable characters. Game & Watch's tease but with no official reveal also strongly suggests that we aren't getting all characters revealed pre-release.

I'm mostly concerned about where the "staple" modes like Classic and All-Star are going to go. Are they Challenges? Under Games & More? Is there some other menu hidden out of sight for them? Did they just roll them into the Smash menu? Is this thing challenges?

So many questions!

I'd guess that Classic and All Star will be under Smash, with multiplayer Vs as a separate option there too. "Games & More" likely will get the bonus modes like break the target, homerun contest, and other collectible related things.

By memory..

Brawl menu:

Group
---Brawl
---rules
---special brawl
---rotation
---tournament
Solo
---SSE
---Classic
---All Star
---training
---stadium
------break the targets
------homerun contest
------multiman
------boss battle
---event match
Vault
---Trophies/Stickers
---Screenshots/replays
Settings
Data
Wifi

I think everything important is here :p

What I mean is, the main menu has only Solo, Group, Vault, Settings, Data and Wifi.. We can see almost nothing there

edit: forgot event matches

I'm going to assume Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac Man will have to be unlocked, really don't know about anyone else from the newcomers. Seems kind of silly to reveal most/all newcomers before launch then have half of them hidden away needing to be unlocked.

I honestly still think we may not have any unlockable character, or if we do it'll only be unconfirmed veterans like Rob, Mr G&W, Wolf, etc. Would explain why we basically got confirmation of Mr G&W during Pac Man's trailer but he's not officially on the website yet.

Brawl in the Family is ending.

Yeah, it suck. At least, they are going to give it a proper ending.

So no Wario reveal?

Waaah....

He is in the game 100% so no sweat.

We have 38 characters but I'm pretty sure that Sonic, Mega Man and Pac Man would be secret characters like Brawl. So that would bring us down to 35 characters.

Ok, so everyone things challenge is the brawl Challenge mode

But then, where does this mode fall?

Will that just be one of the options once you choose SMASH?

SMASH > Solo > Adventure Mode?

Why can't challenge mode be like the melee event matches? The trophy icon does seem to hint that it's more like brawl, though.

That said, in brawl Challenges were tucked under the VAULT, not on the front page. Challenges being on the front page tells me that they're way more important (or, I guess, that they don't really fit under 'Games and More')

Seems to me the term SMASH encompasses both single player and multiplayer modes this time, rather than splitting it between group and solo right off the bat.
For all we know, Wii U will have group/solo on the front page due to the way it's played differently than 3DS (everyone shares the same system), but maybe not.

I wonder what Wii U's 'Smash Run' Will be...

Is it pretty much confirmed that the Wii U version will have less single player options than Brawl? Given that SSE is gone this time I imagine there won't be anything very similar to it with this new game. Say what you want about SSE, but it added a great deal of playability to the package. Hopefully there will be plenty of single player things to do.

Well, the Wii U presumably will get its own extra mode too, and we still don't know anything about it since the focus is on the 3ds' features right now.

I think it's in Games and More. Smash is usually for multiplayer features.

The adventure mode that I posted above will very likely also make its way to Wii U. It'll be a bit more traditional, I think, with no story and possibly no long platforming stages - just melee-style event matches, i'd have to guess. It'll still be a good time killer and good way to unlock stuff (characters, trophy, equipment), but nothing that would take up as much dev time as SSE.

I think it's in Games and More. Smash is usually for multiplayer features.

Games and More is so small, though. Some percentage of players may not even click it. I think games and more will hold stuff like this:

Not a huge mode like 'classic mode' or 'adventure mode'

Hmm that path looks adventure mode like

I think the mode depicted there is a more in-depth version of Classic Mode, but I wouldn't be surprised to see linear, Adventure Mode-ish stages appearing on some of the paths in-between battles, similar to how Board the Platforms and Race to the Finish were inserted into older versions of Classic Mode.

That makes sense. I'd be okay with that.

SmashIRC had an interesting discussion about Miiverse feature.

I really don't mind to have stamps feature for Smash (both version hopefully) where we could earn a stamp per characters in throwback cartoony art which would referred to N64 cartoons.

I say the following announced characters will be unlockable:

Mega Man
Pac Man
Sonic
Luigi
Lucina
Palutena
Toon Link
Lucario
Diddy Kong
Captain Falcon

I kind of want to put Marth, as he has been unlockable for the past few games, but he finally might get the upgrade to starting cast since he was announced before Ike.

What kind of single player mode is expected for the 3DS version? Something like Melee's?

Without seeing the Wii U menu, we can't possibly judge. Brawl had stuff more tucked away and sub-divided than Melee. That said, I think it's pretty odd that 3DS would get an exclusive mode whilst the Wii U has no such exclusive announced thus far.

I guess, that "Smash" will have all the Single-Player- and Local-Multiplayer-Modi. Smash Run is on the first screen only because the developers want to showcase the mode, which is exclusive for the 3DS-Version. "Games & More" properly has mini-games, which don't fall under normal Smash-Gameplay-Rules (for example a mini-game to get trophies).

Yeah it's there but it's nothing more than Classic or All-Stars mode. I hope the second is cut actually.
Now that I think about it we saw a glimpse of a 3DS mode structured like a map, with Mario walking from a point to another like in Super Mario World kinda. I don't think is something that big though.

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm hoping we get something significant on the SP front. We did see that 3DS map as you kmention, Aβydoς. So maybe that indicates a significant SP experience of some kind. As long as there's some kind of SP mode as well as challenges I think I'll be satisfied.

Hopefully, they'll let you upload screenshots to Miiverse. It was really annoying when I found Game Freak disabled it for XY for some reason. It could have been spoilers but there's even a spoilers notification for that sort of thing.

Uh? I'm pretty sure that Smash is for multiplayer features, since you probably have to set up local battles to play with your friends or playing with your computers.

As we see Smash Run's subtitles with 3 computers, so I'm pretty sure that Smash and Smash Run would have two/three different options where you can click one of three buttons, Vs. Computer, Vs. Local Play, and Vs. Online.

Games and More, I'm pretty sure that there would be single contents right there. Event Matches, Classic Mode, Adventure/All Stars, Home Run, Bomb Run, etc Also I'm pretty sure that there would be customization feature and vault there as well. I would imagine that 3DS' screen size might be a reason they might put Single Contents in "Games and More"

You know, I just thought about the release OT a little bit, and, while having a informative, comprehensive and well designed OP would be awesome, I think I'd prefer a troll OP like this or this.

Here's my thoughts/ideas for Menu Navigation (might be too ambitious/hopeful)

Could be. It just seems that 'games and more' is a smaller button, bunched together with 'options' and such. Seems like a weird place to put huge game modes, honestly.

Waah, Wario time!

Putting the single player modes in "Games & more" would kind of a weird design choice.
Smash was created for one screen (Melee, Brawl). They might have reused some of the assets, making it easier to have all the interaction on the top screen.
You forgot the one game that came before Melee. :P

I believe that mode is like classic, as you just choose the path, but the game sets the possible options beforehand.

And intensity levels will probably be present in every SP mode, instead of the difficult options (very easy~intense).

Games and More is so small, though. Some percentage of players may not even click it. I think games and more will hold stuff like this:

In melee, there is 3 minigames in classic, but only homerun contest is acessible outside it.

I believe that trophie tussle mode will not be acessible outside the SP mode it appears, otherwise it would be way too easy to unlock stuff using it

You forgot the one game that came before Melee. :P

Nintendo lost the source code of that :(
Probably not, but I'd wager they'd rather use assets from more recent versions. I guess they much rather copy-paste the more modern code of Brawl than the hieroglyphs of the original.

This is by far one of the best ideas I've heard in these threads.

It's feels weird to not see a Classic Mode icon on the main menu.

I feel they should've kept the solo icon from Brawl, and put Classic Mode/Events/Smash Run/All Star Mode/etc in there.

True, true.

Also, hieroglyphs xD That gave me a good chuckle.

Maybe Sakurai felt that returning modes might not be big deal to the fans, comparing to Smash Run. *shrugs*
