Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

I wonder if anyone on gaf has worked on guides before, particularly at prima, and has some insight into how early they get the game, how much of the game they know early on, etc. I wonder if that's info someone working at prima RIGHT NOW would know, or if it won't be until next month or so.

I don't know FOR SURE, don't take my word for it, but for whatever reason I have it in my head that Prima gets the games when they go into printing and the guides are written under a fair amount of haste.

Woof, just realized that smash 3DS is 5,200 yen, which converts to about $50-52 bucks. Still worth it, just glad we have uniform pricing in the US for games.

That's kinda what I always imagined. Hard to make a good guide, especially w/ regards to fighter balance, in a short amount of time :/

Nah, it depends on the company, but most will work with prima to make a decent guide. When the Witcher 3 stuff leaked, there was a whole section that the devs gave to Prima months in advance for the Prima guide.

i don't even remember buying the brawl prima guide but i have it right here for some reason

i love the rankings it gives characters

meta knight: 6/10
jigglypuff: 7/10

Hahahahaha! Those guide makers don't know nuthin bout no body!

Man I can not wait for this game! I'm going to be on it so hard!

My Donkey Kong and Bowser along with Charizard/Ridley/Dixie/Little Mac(Depends on who is available when all is said and done) will become legends on this forum. In little time you will all know me as Koopa Kong the Great! No, the magnificent!

Anyone who plays dk and bowser is awesome in my book :)

So it's very possible nintendo is feeding them only stuff from revealed characters, at the moment.

I'm still undecided on the Prima guide. I like the strategy guides not because they're the best guides (the walkthroughs on Gamefaqs are often more thorough and have fewer errors than the Prima ones, and they're free,) I like them because they're stylish and colorful - they're just fun to peruse. I remember reading the Super Paper Mario guide cover to cover and spoiling the whole game before I even owned a Wii just because it was so much fun to look at. But if this guide is as weak as the Brawl guide (sentences like, "Lucas and Ness are very similar, but they also have many differences,") then I might not bother. The fact that it's half the price of the game itself doesn't help, either.

Head up, Georly and Oricwindstar:

If y'all manage to get my Link toy, I have funds ready to pay for it!

Let me know!

Edit:If anyone else sources one, let me know.

I imagine Prima's quality will have only gotten worse considering they're the only ones that has the rights to publish a physical guide for a lot of games. No one like BradyGames or even Nintendo themselves is going to come around and publish a better quality guide, so Prima pretty much has full rights to just half ass most of these.

You cannot make this shit up, probably had Ice Climbers low as well

Aren't Prima Guides rarely accurate? Like they miss a detail or two?

For Oikonny I think its Command, but it shouldn't matter anyway, because it looks like they got rid of the whole "Game of origin" stuff. I don't see anything on Doc Wily, and it looks like the Phantom just says "The Legend of Zelda".

Also, looks like Tingle is Wind Waker Tingle.

Nah. Andrew Oikonny there uses his Assault model.

CoroCoro seems like it's starting to leak (nothing major except just a small blurb about the next Pokemon movie with pictures of a teaser shown at the Diancie film)...

Yes, I know CoroCoro isn't doing a blow-out like we thought, but CoroCoro officially comes out the 15th.

Meaning if Sakurai perhaps was planning to reveal a veteran or stage in the next week, and CoroCoro has it in their feature, then we could see something early.

Sure why not :)

lol I was expecting maybe they'd be more than awesome.. perhaps Warriors of the Pad, some would say.

I'll see myself out.

EDIT:
You're a 64 player. Playing everyone is a much easier task than it is for those of us who play the later days. Hell, you even have a play format based around using every character in the game.

That's mostly because it's the only one with a pretty active online community. The Dolphin community has been growing, so maybe I'll play more Melee/PM, but I use all characters in all Smash games. It all comes down to spacing and consistency of execution once you've grown experienced in any Smash game.

It's great to see more players adopting a wider range of characters now that the Smash scene is growing and the exposure to different playstyles is more widely accessible. So excited for the next Smash on that front.

Really doubt they'd have anything in the mag that is revealed between now and the 15th, especially if it's almost done.

Eh, you never know.

Like CoroCoro leaking back in June spoiled what was going to be shown at E3 first...the Hoenn Mega Starters.

Hopefully Prima doesn't bother with a tier list this time. Even their character retrospective acknowledges Falcon as crap in Brawl.

They'll fuck up again. They probably only have a couple of weeks to throw together the guide with their small team, so they aren't going to find the things or develop the meta that the whole community will be able to within a couple of months.

Wow, Snake fell a bunch since the last time I saw this. ROB and Dedede seem lower. I knew ICs were good in that game, had no idea they were that good.

Didn't seem like a lot, but we already have 36 characters confirmed (38 if you include the Mii's as separate characters). That's quite a bit. How many more are you guys expecting? I notice Ness isn't back yet.

I expect the rest of the veterans (minus Snake, Ivy, Squirtle), plus another 3 new comers. Mewtwo returns as well if we're lucky.

50 counting Miis as separate characters. Ivysaur, Squirtle, Snake, and Lucas cut, with two more newcomers.

You know everyone assumes Squirtle and Ivysaur are cut, just because Charizard is solo, but what if that's NOT the case? What if both of them, or just one (Squirtle seems more likely to keep his place if only one returns since he's a bit more well known than the akward middle form Ivysaur) come back?

The Smashboards leak actually didn't say they were cut iirc, we just all assumed it. Neither did Gematsu.

That would be 12 reveals in the course of a month if the game is being released on September 13th in Japan. Do we know when the next one is coming?

Nope! I wouldn't expect them all to be revealed before launch either. Veterans like Jigglypuff might stay hidden I'd imagine. Plus, characters like Game and Watch have already been shown, just not updated onto the website. I'd say that we'll probably get all newcomers before launch, but not all veterans. Or, they could just reveal all of the characters in a direct right before launch, like Hyrule Warriors just did. Just put a spoiler warning at the start if you have to or whatever.

I'm thinking we'll get a veteran reveal within the week though, maybe tonight.

The Miis are three separate characters. They each have their own character slot and have 3 moves per special. Just because there are three types of Miis does not mean they are one character.

Since clones are separate characters as are the separated transformation characters, then people should stop saying "if we're counting the Miis as 3" lol
