Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

That's sort of understandable - it's just post-Metaknight trauma leading them astray.
I know you said sort of, but it isn't really. Seems people are bein panic-y.

1) it's a demo
2) it's an early build of the game
3) half of the characters weren't playable
4) the game is not out yet
5) this is only one tourney

A lot of those points overlap, but should give a general idea.

Meta Knight was banned and unbanned after one major. Nothing will be banned except customization. (Unless there's something in customization that reduces landing lag.)

Also, 2 months and 1 week before the game is out. Can't wait.

It's definitely not rational, but I was just trying to empathise with their blind panic.

There's already a thread on the Smash Board asking if Bowser will be banned from competitions.

And I thought SmashGAF was crazy.

It'll always happen. Smash 4 section over there has become a bit of a place for crazies. A lot of competitive players from the Brawl community that are interested in Smash 4 aren't even really participating in the Smash 4 forums, so you'll see just a lot of the shitposters posting shit.

Once the game is out and an actual competitive scene starts to form, it'll get better.

Megaman actually has an expression on his face during the direct final smash, Samus' zero laser during the direct has better visuals etc.

Pretty sure there were a couple of other things but I've forgotten, there was a thread on smash boards about it.

Also lol at Bowser being banned from competitions, he doesn't even seem that good...

Yeah. Apparently Bowser is very friendly character where you can pick up pretty fast and being good with Bowesr easily.

It could change when we get final version with full roster and people actually have more times to get better with specific characters that they want.

I'm more of looking forward to see final roster on Sept 13/Sept 14 depend on how fast they would unlocking those characters. Only 7 weeks to go.

Customization isn't going to get banned right away unless it ends up being crazy.

Bowser just seems too punishable for me to imagine doing well in a standard 1v1 format against good players with fast characters.

You'll probably get a couple of standout character specialists like aMSa and DJNintendo, but I just can't see him being one of the regularly picked characters (Though he will be for the first couple of months, just because of tryhards seeing how well he did here and thinking it's an easy win, until they realise other characters are better)

I hope Bowser stays the way he is. Dude is my favorite videogame villain and I'm glad he's buffed. Can't wait to use him. Him and Mario look so awesome now.

What's with these Bowser being banned? He's not even that OP.

I think in Smash 4 we have already seen a good number of characters than when used wisely looks really great - Bowser, Kirby, ZSS, Mario among others.

He didn't even know greninja was popular when they decided, he just chose the coolest looking one to him. Besides, greninja is awesome :3 my only beef with charizard is that IMO he was the weakest out of the 3. His moves were just trash, if they fixed his shitty moves and make him good it would ease the pain :)

Shitty moves in Pokemon? They fixed that a while ago. It was his typing that's bad. Stealth Rock countered him so hard since he'd switch in with half health. He's a huge threat though now with his X and Y versions.

Oh. Interesting. Go go Ice Climbers.
No. Just no. Fuck Ice Climbers. You do not know how they get the win. While it isn't easy to pull off, it is the most cheese and boring ways to win.

I think he is talking about Smash.

Any reason for you wanting Snake to be cut?

Sticks out like a sore thumb from the rest of the cast. Is almost entirely irrelevant to the history and lineup of Nintendo in a way that none of the other characters are. Is replaced by three hugely more relevant and appropriate third party characters. Is filled with references to games you can't even play on a Wii U or 3DS. Makes objectively less sense than characters like Big Daddy in Playstation All Stars.

If he's in, fine. They don't want to cut characters. But if he isn't? No tears shed on my end. No more so than if they announced that, unfortunately, Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell wouldn't be making the Smash this time round.

Let's ban Spirit Track stage because it was laggy that one time.
/sarcasm

I'll wait until the game is release and everyone know how to play characters before any ban conversation.

Bowser is breaking smash tradition being remotely threatening and beating past top tier characters. Everything smashers know is a lie!

The only time I recall a character ever being permanently banned from fighting game tournaments was Akuma in SF2 Turbo because there were characters that literally could do nothing against some of his attacks.

Like, there's "bad matchups" and there's "impossible."

So what exactly was up with the 3DS version at the beginning of the tournament? It seems like they moved to the playable booths after a while and it got a lot better.

All of this. Please don't give those users much attention, they don't represent the competitive community at all. Smashboards has its fair share of casuals only in the Smash 4 section + people who spectate competitive Smash (who probably don't have much understanding of things at all). There might be one or two people in there that are looking to play Smash 4 competitively but most of those posters that I see there I've never heard of, ever, let alone seen post outside of the Smash 4 subforums on Smashboards.

This just in: heavy character with slow, yet powerful moves wins a primarily free for all tournament with items. More at 11.

The ironic thing is that bowser's attacks are actually fast this time around. No way melee or brawl bowser would have likely made it that far lol.

Hey, everyone! I got back to Japan last week, but work has been pretty hectic, so I haven't been able to keep up with the HYPE TRAIN. But we have three confirmed new stages--hooray!

Also, I'll be adding everyone on the SmashGAF Friend Code list, so feel free to add me back! ;)

Not sure if you're kidding, but I have been appreciating how equal opportunity this game has been when it comes to this sort of thing.

Same here. I absolutely love how Sakurai has clearly been making a point of including a ton of female characters this time around. I also appreciate him including Little Mac for us gaymers to enjoy. :3

This amused me so I'm sharing it :P

Ganondorf, Ike, Lucina, Peach, Marth

I know he's definitely buffed, I just think it's funny that everyone's hoopin and hollerin' that he's "OP now" when we don't have a lot to base it on.

I love that he's faster now and that his attacks look crazy. I'm on that bowser train. I'm just interested to see where it all falls once we start getting into even more 1v1's.

If Bowser does turn out to be great, that gives me hope that slower, heavier characters can be competitive this time around. Maybe Ike will stand a chance! (haha, not with that recovery!)

They're fast to come out, but they still have a lot of endlag, just shield or roll away if it's the bowser bomb and punish accordingly.

No way Bowser's going to be a top tier character, c+ tier at best.

Unless there's some sort of custom move that is a significant buff, but I doubt that.

I added PadWarrior, OricWildstar, IntelliHeath, Great Gonzales and Pop-O-Matic. Add me back please or tell me if you are not interested, so I can remove your FC from my list. I will add the others later

I added you Reila Heath, Padwarrior, Georly, Redarremer, -Horizon-, SuperSah, KHLover, OricWindstar, Kriken, Pop-O-Matic, & others. My Mii's name is SwifTFinch. Add me back, guys :)

Apparently the setup they had enabled for video capture was adding some lag to the output which made the game look too choppy and that's probably not the best way to show it off.

So they moved it to the standard booths with a less complex setup and that greatly improved the display.

Ofcourse I don't expect him to be top tier lol. The fact that he could possibly be mid tier or above this time is good enough for me.

I think the players reported some lag on their 3DSes, too, though.

PreyingShark had a good explanation as to why their set up at the stage was bad.
Basically, here's the main issue here:
8982cf97d7.png

Bad = Potential for stuttering when playing (3)DS games with synchronized netcode
Gud = Very high chance of things going smoothly.

This stream uses the "Bad" set-up. Combine that with interference and BAM!, lag. This is why Nintendo tells you to point the (3)DS's at each other and to sit somewhat close together. The 3DS's wireless is also very fucking sensitive to any sort of barrier. Anything from tables to cardboard can fuck things up.

And for fuck sake's guys, the game itself runs fine. We have plenty of footage from E3 and it ran pretty smoothly there.

I agree with the points you bring up. I still like Snake's moveset, though and it would be a shame to cut him and not give his moveset for some Nintendo character.
