Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

What's the deal with the fan in the background? Is that something from SPM or Sticker Star?

I only played the first two Paper Marios because that's what God intended.

Although I'm intrigued this is a 3DS stage. I wonder if there will be a Paper Mario Wii U stage, or if both games will have this level. It seems like a popular concept that brings a lot of music and flair to only have in one game.
Sticker Star has some puzzles that require you to put strange stickers in some places.

In that part, you need put/stick a fan to generate wind and open the windmill

I hope we get a Glitzville stage on Wii U

Edit: SPM is an incridible game, the combat is different and the game is pretty easy, but the story and the characters are as good as PM1 and TTYD

I'm losing hope that they don't get the shaft again. So many locations from both that would work fantastically, and we'll end up being lucky to get another Green Greens redux with added generic tropical locale for DK.
I think we're essentially guaranteed a Return to Dreamland stage and a Donkey Kong Country Returns stage for the Wii U version. Not really sure what they'll get in the 3DS version.

I'm betting we at least get an Epic Yarn stage in addition to a RTD one at least.

If I were a betting man, I'd say the 3DS version would also be based on Super Star (Ultra) if only because Sakurai legacy. I would've guessed Dedede's boxing ring, but that doesn't seem likely with Punch-Out's in both.

Still hoping for a Kirby's Dreamland GameBoy monochrome stage in the 3DS version. It makes so much sense.

I liked the plot, characters, and worlds.

My problem with the game is the pacing. Long and constant dialogue doesn't really bode well with what was essentially a floaty platformer with RPG elements.

I LOVED the 3D flipping mechanic and puzzles, but the actual gameplay didn't mesh well with story progression.

I would love a Sunset Shore stage from DKC Returns. I have no idea how it would work, but it would look amazing.

Well it would require every character to have a colour zone (like DK's tie) so that costume colours can still be seen when everyone is a black silhouette.

I wish I understood all this love for Epic Yarn.

It's definitely a game on my bottom 10 when it comes to wanting representation from it. The aesthetic did nothing for me and it certainly didn't keep the game from feeling like a chore less than halfway into it.

When "The gameplay was decent enough to be bearable" is literally the most positive thing you can say about a game, maybe it wasn't a very good game?

And even if the gameplay wasn't unplayable, it certainly wasn't good. As there was basically no exploration or puzzle solving, you were pretty much just left with a character action game with a woefully limited array of moves and a dodge mechanic that lets you dodge at least 90% of the game's attacks by simply wiggling the d-pad around.

I never claimed it was a good game. I said it isn't as bad as literally almost everybody on the internet makes it out to be. The gameplay was okay. Nothing special, but nothing terrible either. The story/writing/cutscene stuff was garbage, though.

Glitzville is where you fought the bird right? I haven't played in a long time. If so, then I'm down for glitzville.
As a last resort, I wouldn't mind another variation of Mac's Ring being the Glitzville stage.

While I'm at it, the DDD boxing ring as well.

If we were to get a Glitzville stage I don't know if I'd want it to either be actual fighting arena (which it'd be neat, but probably too similar to Boxing Ring) or the outside area of Glitzville which I think is its most iconic look.

Incredible. GAF is two for two this week for predictions! :lol
Now somebody "predict" that we get a MOTHER character this week. Pretty please?

The stage looks beautiful, though, especially the S.S. Flavion. Hopefully we see a Paper Mario stage on the Wii U as well!

Was this known about already?

Apparently it says "Boss HP" in the corner. Might be old but I wasn't sure.

It definitely doesn't say "Boss HP". It just says "HP Remaining"--no mention of a boss anywhere.

Glitzville theme should at least be on the boxing stage.

Yeah, I kinda like the idea of the ring kinda being an everyman's stage like FD is now.

Oh, I actually kinda think we'll get battlefield versions of many stages in addition to FD versions. I'm pretty sure when giving feedback at the invitational, the players showed concern with final destination.

I fucking hope not. Anything but another jungle.

3DS:

Castle Dedede (Kirby Super Star Ultra)
Lollipop Land (Kirby: Triple Deluxe)
Fountain of Dreams (Super Smash Bros. Melee)

Big Ape City (Donkey Kong Land)
Rickety Rails (Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D)
Jungle Japes (Super Smash Bros. Melee)

Wii U:

Quilty Square (Kirby's Epic Yarn)
Another Dimension (Kirby's Return to Dream Land)
Battleship Halberd (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)

Gangplank Galleon (Donkey Kong Country)
Homecoming Hijinks (Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze)
Rumble Falls (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)

If the best Kirby game is in your bottom 10, that must be a long list of Kirby games you hate. Dang!

Epic Yarn is absolutely, positively, the worst Kirby game. The fact that it wasn't originally conceived as a Kirby game is readily apparent from the very start.

It's still, like okay to play I guess. It's just nearly as much fun as Kirby Super Star and the recent games and it's a still a total slog, just because nothing happens. Maybe I'm not giving it a fair enough shake and need to buckle down and really get into it, but it's never felt to me that there was much to it outside of a cute art style.

Yeah, it really irks me because I rather they made a Prince Mallow game like they were planning instead of attaching Kirby to it.
That being said Yarn Yoshi looks like what Epic Yarn was trying to do.

Well many Kirby games don't "feel" like (traditional) Kirby games, but imo those are some of the best ones. Canvas Curse and Mass Attack, for example. But yeah Epic Yarn is fucking awesome. Best graphics and music in the series, and the game design is super charming and enjoyable for me. Honestly can't think of a single thing I didn't like about it. Maybe the controls of that train power-up, although once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. That said, I like just about every Kirby game. :P

I'd really like the 3DS version to focus heavily on handheld game stages. Handheld games are a major part of Nintendo, yet aren't heavily represented in Smash when it comes to stages. I need a stage from Super Mario Land 2!

I wonder what Mother stage we're getting this time? I'd say it's high time we got Saturn Valley.

I kinda want Scarab. Only desert stage we've ever had was the Scrolling Mario Bros one I think.

Edit: I'd be extremely fine with Saturn Valley actually. I love the music there!

Can we get Giygas' stage though? ;)

Nearly every stage shown off in the 3DS version has been a handheld game. Sakurai stated that this was his intention from the start. 3DS has handheld stages, Wii U has console stages.

SML2 could be cool. Plus, we'd get SML2 music!

I'm getting a Link Amiibo. That's it. No more.

I was saying the same, then I saw Zelda, Samus, ZSS, Marth, Lil Mac, eventually Ike, Lucina and Robin...

I will spend more in freaking Amiibos than in the game itself... but hey, at least Lucina will get an Amiibo out faster than a goddamn figma!

For sure I'll get amiibos for

Marth
Ike
Robin
Lucina
Shulk (if confirmed)
Jigglypuff
Greninja
Ice Climbers
Rob (if confirmed)
Captain Falcon

And will probably buy more on impulse :X

When we were told that the 3DS stages would be based on handheld games I thought "Great, GB, GBC, and GBA stages! We can get a Metroid 2 stage, Mario Land stage, Pokemon Gold stage, Metroid Fusion stage, Link's Awakening Stage, maybe even something like an Alleyway stage or Picross".

But instead all we've got so far are stages from DS and 3DS games, not even one from a handheld before them, been pretty disappointing for me so far.
