Edit: I'd be extremely fine with Saturn Valley actually. I love the music there!

Can we get Giygas' stage though? ;)
How about a Saturn Valley stage that transitions into The Cave of the Past at points in time? Maybe have the Phase Distorter in the background going on the fritz, sending players back in time. Or make it an alternate version of Saturn Valley.

Well many Kirby games don't "feel" like (traditional) Kirby games, but imo those are some of the best ones. Canvas Curse and Mass Attack, for example. But yeah Epic Yarn is fucking awesome. Best graphics and music in the series, and the game design is super charming and enjoyable for me. Honestly can't think of a single thing I didn't like about it. Maybe the controls of that train power-up, although once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. That said, I like just about every Kirby game. :P

I adore almost all of the Kirby spinoffs, so it's not like I'm not giving it a fair shake for not being "legit Kirby" or anything. Mass Attack is probably tied for its spot as my favorite game in the series.

But graphically, I actually prefer RtDL and Triple Deluxe's visuals and I think they're on par musically. Epic Yarn is missing a lot of the high intensity tracks that I appreciate from the series (which I guess makes sense, given that it's meant to be a slower paced and gentler game) but when Triple Deluxe can have tracks like this, which sound like it could have come from Epic Yarn, next to tracks like this, it just feels lacking.

But I actually don't have anything to do today, so maybe I'll boot it up and try giving it a fair chance.

I'd like an earthbound stage based on the happy happyism cult in some way, probably in the carpainter's headquarters with all the cultist surrounding you.

Because sm4sh needs more blue.

I can see a pic of the day with sonic, megaman, marth and greninja in there.

A while ago I wrote a short reminder about Nintendo's First Quarter Financial Results Briefing for FY 2014. Now, I seem to have overlooked the fact that they have not had a briefing for Q1 since 2011, and that the schedule does in no way indicate that the pattern will change this year. It could still change of course, I'm unsure when they have historically updated the schedule to include mention of a briefing.

The earnings release will of course happen though, and I believe it's around 10-13 hours away. Super Smash Bros. will certainly be included in the release list, but I doubt the date has changed.

I....it changes into a TTYD stage. 8)

I'm a little sad at the probable lack of musical representation, but I imagine it looks incredible in 3D so I'm alright.

AND YES Saturn Valley! My guess is that they'lll use the Mother 3 variant for the 3DS and stick with an Earthbound stage for the Wii U.

I like the way you think. I think I'm gonna go ahead and try to finish Earthbound. I'm pretty far in the game, but life took over D:

Yoshi's Stage in Brawl changed music with the seasons. Never know what to expect :)

I'll have all the Amiibos. At least if they're closer to 10 dollars. If it's more like 25+ then it becomes a lot of money to own all ~50 of them. I'm guessing they'll come in at 11.95 or something.

But I assume they'll also be released in waves. I'm expecting 15-20 at launch, then another 10 every once in a while in 2015. As long as the release is pretty gradual it won't be too much of a financial burden.

I'll prioritize Marth, Mewtwo, Falcon, and Mega Man (off the top of my head). Would be Fox too, if he looked like he did in Melee/64. His new (since Command I think?) head is so bad.

A new Earthbound stage would be godlike. I think one of my all time favorite stages in Melee was Fourside, the music was amazing and brought out a visual of more Earthbound if it was a 3d game. :(

Nearly every stage shown off in the 3DS version has been a handheld game. Sakurai stated that this was his intention from the start. 3DS has handheld stages, Wii U has console stages.

SML2 could be cool. Plus, we'd get SML2 music!

I feel like a lot of them are too modern. A lot of 3DS stages are represented, which is neat because the 3DS has had an amazing lineup, but the history of handheld Nintendo stretches back so far that I would like to see some more diverse and out there stage selections. Here are just a few games they could pull from:

Super Mario Land 2
Wario Land(s)
Off beat Kirby games (Pinball, Tilt N Tumble, Canvas Curse)
Link's Awakening
Picross
Oracle of Ages/Seasons
Golden Sun
Mario vs. Donkey Kong
Metroid Fusion
Mario and Luigi
Advance Wars
Elite Beat Agents
Rhythm Heaven (SOON)

I'll be getting any and all Fire Emblem amiibos. Gotta expand my collection. Everything else is up in the air right now and highly dependent on how much money I'll have to spare.

Unfortunately, for most things, Nintendo tends to pull from more modern games since that's more likely to bring in new people to smash. They've already sold the people like us who have been around forever.

(Also, it's easier to take assets from more recent games)

I'll get these amiibos:
-Robin
-Lucina
-Pac-Man
-Palutena
-Mii Fighter
-Greninja
-Little Mac
-Rosalina & Luma
-Villager
-Mega Man
-Wii Fit Trainer
-Captain Falcon
-Ike
-Charizard
-Yoshi
-Sheik
-Zero Suit Samus
-Diddy Kong
-Lucario
-King Dedede
-Zelda
-Marth
-Sonic
-Toon Link
-Peach
-Luigi
-Pikmin & Olimar
-Mario
-Donkey Kong
-Link
-Samus
-Kirby
-Fox
-Pikachu
-Bowser
-Pit
-And the unrevealed characters

BUT THAT'S IT!
wallet am cry

While the Paper Mario stage is nice, I still wish this was real.

Actually Triple Deluxe has a phenomenal soundtrack, I might put that about Epic Yarn as well. My line about KEY having the best music pre-dates that game, haha. But I was actually listening to KEY's soundtrack while driving the other day, man is it good. Just puts a stupid grin on my face every time.

Anyway I know Epic Yarn's not for everyone, just ribbing you a bit earlier. :P I sure do love it though. Hope you can find a way to appreciate it, but I won't hold it against you if you don't!

At first I was like, "Cool, a Paper Mario stage!" but then I was like, "Oh, gross, it's based on Sticker Star..." but then I was like, "Oh, it turns into stages from actually-good games. That's cool I guess."

Is it just me or are there a lot of transforming stages this time around? Not that that's a good or bad thing - after all, transforming stages can be good or bad, as exemplified by the Pokemon Stadiums.

When we were told that the 3DS stages would be based on handheld games I thought "Great, GB, GBC, and GBA stages! We can get a Metroid 2 stage, Mario Land stage, Pokemon Gold stage, Metroid Fusion stage, Link's Awakening Stage, maybe even something like an Alleyway stage or Picross".

But instead all we've got so far are stages from DS and 3DS games, not even one from a handheld before them, been pretty disappointing for me so far.

As it was said before, Smash always pulls primarily from the current and immediately previous console's library. In a perfect world Sakurai and Nintendo would mine their entire history for a series like Smash, but that's unfortunately not the case. Melee did the Nintendo legacy the best with all its trophies. But otherwise the recency card is one of the heaviest you can play with this kind of stuff.

We are lucky we're seeing Ocarina of Time content because of the remake. Hopefully this bodes well for Star Fox and Wind Waker too.

To be pretty honest, stages have always been Smash's weakpoint. I always feel like they're never quite as creative as they could be. Sure, there's notable exceptions, but in general they're either just an asset rip or something generic with a game skin.

I feel like this became more apparent with Brawl, but it's not limited to that. Remember Fourside? That just felt like a generic city with a UFO. It really didn't fit with the earthbound atmosphere like, say, Onett did.

Many stages seem to have been made with recycled assets. That's likely why we're seeing a big focus on DS and 3DS over everything else, since stages based on GBA and earlier games would have to be built from ground up. I guess this might be one of the sacrifices for different 3ds and Wii U stages. Although we haven't seen stages for quite a few series that could lead to revamped versions of old games, like a Metroid stage in the 3ds version.

Yeah, it has been pretty disappointing. I get that marketing the recent games is more effective, but it's pretty dull and even a little offputting. Before these games I always though of it as 'most of the history is already shown, so it makes sense for the new game to focus on new stuff'. There's still plenty to dig into though (speaking of which, Mole Mania stage and character, pls Samurai), so it really is disappointing to see modern games so over represented. Seeing remakes represented over the original games is especially disheartening.

I feel quite the opposite. There were mixed bags for sure, but a lot of them are really great. The thing that makes it hard for the Smash staff is to produce a stage inspired from franchise's games that will satisfy fans, because fans do really have different expectations when it comes to how they want the stages to look like and work. It is not surprising that the best stages in Smash history are the stages that were never inspired from other games: Battlefield and Final Destination.

Such a petty reason to not like and like a stage.
When it comes to first impressions based on a stage, whether or not they derive from a game that I enjoy is a pretty important reason, I would argue. It's not the only way one is capable of liking/disliking a stage - I mean, I've grown to at least somewhat like Pyrosphere despite it coming from basically my least favorite game ever, but when all you're given is a single screenshot...

Plus a big part of stages is the aesthetics and a big thing that Sticker Star did wrong in my eyes was the aesthetic. The "Things" idea was really dumb in my opinion and actually managed to take away from the whimsy of the Paper world that TTYD had mastered so thoroughly.

So when are they going to put a Super Mario 3D Land stage and Pokemon XY stage? Super Smash Bros 7? You can't keep going back and back to get stages from old games, especially for active series.

And what the hell is Mole Mania?

First impression of a stage is based on the game it came from? That makes no sense really. It could be your favorite game ever and the stage from it could be absolute shit.

The aesthetics of Sticker Star are nearly identical to TTYD, so okay?

For an EarthBound stage, if we don't end up with a redesigned Onett.

I think it might be another town. So Twoson, Threed, Summers, etc.

Smash seems to stick pretty close thematically to a series throughout. (Star Fox involving Great Fox/Arwings, Mother being a "city" (onett, fourside, new pork city), DK (jungle setting), mario (1-1 from mario 1 and nsmbu, or a castle), etc.)

I would love to proven wrong and we get like Tanetane Island, Chaos Theatre or Mt. Itoi.

I'm not sure if I should have the figures being out of the box since the paints seem coming off easily if you accidentally scratch them.
