Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

So when are they going to put a Super Mario 3D Land stage and Pokemon XY stage? Super Smash Bros 7? You can't keep going back and back to get stages from old games, especially for active series.

qq more and I were talking about this the other day. The reality is that it makes more sense to re-use old stages to make up the quota of that content in the new games.

And what the hell is Mole Mania?

Really fun Gameboy game. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mole_Mania

Though I wouldn't actually want a character from it. A gimmick stage would work well for 3DS maybe though, where you can jump down into the ground and other players can't see where you go.

They can go back and add more games for old series. I mean, you do have a point though. All those need representation too. But the older handheld games seem like they've kinda always gotten pushed to the sides in favor of console 'main entries' as far as Smash content. Having the 3DS version dedicated to handhelds is a good opportunity to include more of that kind of thing. I guess I mostly just don't like that the OoT stage is on 3DS, but it really doesn't make a difference.

While the Paper Mario stage is nice, I still wish this was real.

I remembered that fake, and it would be amazing if it's real.

First impression of a stage is based on the game it came from? That makes no sense really. It could be your favorite game ever and the stage from it could be absolute shit.

The aesthetics of Sticker Star are nearly identical to TTYD, so okay?
If your first impression of a stage is a single picture, what else are you supposed to base your very first thoughts on if not what it looks like? I saw a picture of a stage from a game I dislike, I was a little disappointed. I'm glad that Sakurai is repped older Paper Mario games that I like better as well. Everyone is happy, including both the people who liked Sticker Star and those that like TTYD.

Sticker Star, by virtue of adding in the Things as an important, well, thing, changed the overall aesthetic drastically. I mean, the stage has a giant fan in the background! In my eyes, it killed the Paper whimsy a bit, but I can see where people would like the dynamic.

I hope the Wii U version gets a Paper Mario stage, too, though it's probably not likely. It'd be cool to have an HD remade stage based on the original Paper Mario!

Which Paper Mario is most like Super Mario RPG? I only played SPM and Sticker Star (didn't like the latter).

None of them are really at all like SMRPG, however if you're looking for more RPG elements, play the first two games in the series. They are RPG's proper.

The two you played are really more like spinoffs, even if SPM was okay.

That's what I was thinking... thanks! And yeah I did mean RPG elements.

Paper Mario would be a really fun character to play as, like a different kind of Toon Link or Game and Watch. If we still don't get Dr. Mario back, would love to see the inclusion of PM.

That applies more to the home console versions. Talking exclusively about the 3DS version of Smash right now.

It is the first handheld Smash and Sakurai said handheld games would be where the stages come from and the point brought up by them is valid, but at the same time I feel it is flawed. Handheld games haven't been featured in Smash much before Smash 4.

Mother 3 is really the only handheld game that I know of that would probably get a stage because it isn't an active series.

I see, thanks.

As I said above, I understand the point you guys are making, but it doesn't seem feasible. Maybe a Warioware stage based on the GBA game which is the first one in the series, right? Though there are DS Warioware games, right?

Mother 3 would probably get a stage.

And yea, I can see why people would be upset by a remake having a stage. Though I'm kinda hoping for a new WWHD stage lol.

I guess it is good if a stage from a game you like is in, but I don't believe it should be influential on the stage itself in Smash since it is different in Smash.

Oh, you mean that. I didn't realize you were talking about the real-life objects.

$50/year Amiibo budget cap. That's the line I'm sticking with!

I just hope they run a 'series' every 6-12 months or so. They have to know full well that they could make more money trickling them all out little by little than releasing all 40-50 at once, right? Not everyone will be able to afford them ALL, in fact, most people won't. You may get a ton of unpopular characters just sitting on store shelves. They have to be looking at competitor's business practices, right? Even skylanders releases in waves.

this would require a vast amount of work to make all the character look different/ have them do paper? animation etc. If there was no 3DS version, the extra man power could of been made this a reality ;d

Even if there is no 3DS version, they would never waste their time to do something like that for one stage. They would most likely use some sort of filter or something to try and give a flat-like look like they do in the G&W stages if they wanted to give an effect.

That one stage would almost be an entire game's worth of dev work. Might as well be a full-on 2D smash bros sequel. The sprite work would be astronomical.

So guys, what would say the chances are for Shulk actually being in the game?

My stage/item theory says that until sakurai reveals a stage or item from the franchise, his chances are 0% :p

My stage theory is based on all past first party newcomers having their stage revealed beforehand. My stage theory also ignores that sakurai does what sakurai want.

Some thoughts: there isn't a hard and fast limit on stages. They are limited by resources, but there's nothing saying "well, we need room for the Mario 3D Land Stage, so scrap that Mario Land 2 stage".

I'd like to see things from Link's Awakening, the Oracles, and Minish Cap. The Wario Land series would be nice (doubly so if we have a red and black option). There's the Metroid homeworld from Metroid II or any of a few environments from Metroid Fusion.

I don't know. The ones you mentioned would be good too. I dislike the notion that active series should prioritize the newest games though. Seeing throwbacks to older-ish games is more fun for me, but I'd like the balance to be closer to 50/50.

Yeah it would disappointing if the characters aren't flattened a la Elektroplankton/Flatzone for PM stage

For an EarthBound stage, if we don't end up with a redesigned Onett.

I think it might be another town. So Twoson, Threed, Summers, etc.

Smash seems to stick pretty close thematically to a series throughout. (Star Fox involving Great Fox/Arwings, Mother being a "city" (onett, fourside, new pork city), DK (jungle setting), mario (1-1 from mario 1 and nsmbu, or a castle), etc.)

I would love to proven wrong and we get like Tanetane Island, Chaos Theatre or Mt. Itoi.

I REALLY hope Onett is back. Probably my favorite smash stage.

I hope this is one of the shared stages. It covers a single portable game and likely multiple console games, and this seems like the kind of stage that could use a large track selection, rather than just two.

Kalos Elite Four stage debuted in the Greninja trailer. But I guess Prism Tower was revealed beforehand.

So guys, what would say the chances are for Shulk actually being in the game?
Uh... 30%. Golden Sun had two GBA games, each sold better than Xenoblade, and Isaac ended up being an Assist Trophy in Brawl.
I still haven't played Golden Sun and I love Xenoblade, but I don't see the situation being much different. Honestly, Shulk wouldn't be that popular without Gematsu.

Nah Scorpion and a Test Your Luck mode confirmed, armless and headless combat for smash!

Is it bad that if Smash ever did go crazy with 3rd party characters, sub-zero would be really high up in terms of characters I'd want in?

No. most of the good kid friendly mascots are already Nintendo characters or smash guests. Might as well get the violent ones for that hilarious cognitive dissonance. what cartoonish mascots could they add? Rayman? Crash? Spyro? Ew. Even the Rayman trophy is too much.
