Where did the first pic come from? The article the second one came from said it's the same figure that was at E3. Maybe the lighting in the picture just makes it look worse.

Or the first one is the protype. The current ninja turtles line I collect does this all the time. The protypes are gorgeous but the retail versions are bad at times
I think the light makes all the difference.
The first one is so bright you almost cant see the tip of the blade, this lighting makes it look better and make the details visible.
The second has no studio light effect, so, even if its the very same figure, it will look worse

It's a shame they couldn't use the same color of paint/plastic. The saturated blue on the newer model hides all the detailing of the model. I find it odd that the paint quality on Samus is so well done while Marth's is flat. What really bugs me though are the eyes. If I ever do buy a Marth amiibo, I'm going to have to repaint them.

It's interesting what unfavorable lighting and super close ups of tiny toys will do.
The Monado is hardly "some sword"
Shulk is pretty mild, but as long as he wields the Monado he's by and far away the most compelling Xenoblade rep.

Even with the lighting changes, it looks like he's painted differently. Maybe I'm just not well versed enough to actually tell.

Yeah, I think people are putting too much stock in a carefully photographed promotional image of a picture at tiny resolution.
And don't forget that Amiibos are tiny. They aren't Figmas.

I'm so glad they're not making Amiibos random like Pokemon Rumble. That would've been so damn annoying.
Also, I don't think I'm going to be able to resist opening mine. I really want to have them on my work desk, maybe make a small stand for them or something.
Now I want them to sell some amiibos like that, maybe for 25-30% less $$$?

I mean what's so fancy here, really. That it can glow and grow a beam-sword extension? Is that really enough to differentiate an entire different fighting style?
Yeah, the packaging is cool and all, but it's not enough for me to want to keep it around for whatever ones I do end up getting.
Which will probably just be Kirby, for the time being. Dedede figurine better come soon.
You could probably use it through the packaging, which looks nice so I might keep it in.
