and yeah, just like chaosblade said, it's has to be connected to the Wiimote, a plus for me, since I could play Project Melee on the wii u with that too

I haven't touched a GameCube controller in over a dozen years and for Smash specifically it still felt better than the Wii U's Pro Controller to me. Analog sticks on the latter are too sensitive, and the only real drawback is the GC's Z-button being kinda finicky to press in comparison to the Pro Controller's. I'd bring up the D-pad too, but you only use that for taunts in this game anyways.

The Pro Controller is still alright as a compromise though in your position, what with Nintendo not meeting the demand for the adapter and the third-party alternatives not being up to snuff.
 
Unless you intend to get into higher level play and attend tournaments, I don't really think there is any reason for someone new to jump in with the GC controller. I mean, sure, give it a try if you have it and the adapter and you might like it, but there isn't really an inherent advantage to that controller over others. It's just preference and muscle memory, a lot of people have been using GC controllers for Smash for over a decade, plus it is the only fully wired controller option for the game.

Dumb question. Other than wires, is there some reason I'm not seeing why any controller other than the GCN controller is not usable in high level play? I feel like it comes down to personal preference other than the wire of course.

basically this, I lend the GC to my gf whenever we play and I use the gamepad, I feel no difference other than screwing up my c-stick motions by trying to move something that's not even there lol

of course in tourney settings I would stick to the GC controller, because I am hella used to it, but if I picked up a Wii U Pro controller I guess it wouldn't change much

Wireless interference may cause controller lag when there a lot of people gathered due to having cellphone and other possible interference. Also look up 3DS tournaments where random lag happened occasionally which messed up a few players. GCN controllers is the only wired controller so pretty much all tournament players have to get one. If you don't plan on competing in tournaments Pro controller works just fine.

Yeah, nothing that makes it horribly unsuitable. The majority of it is personal preference, and the wireless issue. The latter isn't a terribly big issue, as far as I know. The lag isn't enough to really notice (if it's there at all; they say the Wavebird lagged too, but I never felt it), and the setup process isn't so bad as the Wii. Not sure if we would start seeing interference really badly when enough wireless controllers are in the same place though.

2nd analog stick or BUST. This means Wiimote + Nunchuck or just Wiimote = no go.

Any of these are fine. The best option of them? GameCube, strictly because of the wire.

2nd stick is NECESSARY for high level play. B-sticking, continual momentum reverse aerials, etc.

The trigger buttons were important in Melee because Melee had light shields vs. heavy shields, and the triggers being springed would trigger the difference if you lightly pressed on it versus "clicking" it in. Brawl and SSB4 don't have light shields, only heavy shields, which are activated either way, so that no longer matters.

Other than that it's just preference of ergonomics.

For me, I love how the Y, X, and B buttons wrap around the A button the GCN. It makes for much, much easier execution on certain actions. The diamond setup for the buttons on other controller is rather limiting in my opinion.

yup, this, I mean this isn't Street Fighter with 1-2 frames links, after all Smash has plenty of frames to buffer up stuff, I have seen some people using their Wii Pro Controller on brawl tourneys,thou yeah GC controller is optimal if you want to avoid these issues, but even so people shouldn't be afraid to play the way they feel more comfortable with

I guess I didn't make it clear that I wasn't considering the Wiimote variants as options :P

I also miss analog shields, but due to controllers, I don't see it coming back ever.

It's because you're hitting the C-Stick diagonally. It's pretty useful as a Megaman player to hit diagonally to do Nairs while moving around easily

Wavebird definitely has lag especially if you use one back to back with a wired controller. It's not unplayable and you can get used to it but the main issue with wireless is people forgetting to desync controllers and fucking up matches.

It's not just interference but also the syncing and desyning between setups. When a bunch of people are doing it at the same time you will run into issues where you accidentally end up syncing to a system 15 feet away where someone else was trying to sync. Or people leave their controls synced to systems while they aren't playing and you run into sync limits.

Oh yeah, I could see that being an issue for sure. Is there even an easy way to unsync a Pro controller without turning off the system? Only way I know of is the option to sync new controllers, but that takes several seconds I think?

Anyway, I absolutely agree that a wireless controller could get pretty nasty for those reasons. Not sure why those use cases didn't come to mind when I was writing the post, I know I've complained about them before.

Tons of inaccuracies here (should be called vertical jump height instead), but still pretty useful for beginners.

Its not worth it because of the reason you mentioned, no wavedash/ledgedash.

In fact, it is probably the worst get up option to use. It is easily the most punishable, especially if you decide to not approach, you have no invincibility/

I've had decent luck with Crazy Orders. Mix it up with some Classic to earn money, passes, and maybe a few moves/Mii stuff. If you have good equipment effects that will help a lot in Crazy Orders.

I find his dair to be quite useful actually, it combos well into utilt (which you can abuse once you get the first hit in).

I have like 250 000 gold and 10 or more passes so I guess I'm good. And I have also a custom fighter with a home run and quick bat effect so it will really help.
 
I got a friend request from someone i was thinking of sending one, but it it was before the match was over! i stopped playing and it was there, wonder how that works, can you send requests mid-battle?

you can send them after a match.
on the result screen, there should be a "view profile" (or something like that) option. You can send a friend request from there.

maybe he sent you one after a previous match and got delayed somehow.

The music and stages are both very disappointing to me. I understand that it may be tii hard to add in new characters as DLC but i really hope we get more music/stages (even if it's just bringing back old ones, actually that would be great).
