Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

So, with Miiverse 3DS approaching pretty soon, reckon we'll see two pic of the days, one for 3DS or one for Wii U?

Or would Sakurai just do the usual?

I do wonder about the decision made in the debut trailer for smash, why only show 2 newcomers in the trailer?

Oh I agree

But the Mother franchise is the very last I'd burn down :(

I just think in terms of relevance Kid Icarus currently beats it handily. Which isn't saying much, but dammit, Hades needs to be in.

Too much work man, there's only so many amusing/cool looking poses they can do with 10 characters.

people keep saying this, but there hasent been a bad selling starfox game, im not sure about command and the very 1st starfox, but they all have reached atleast a milloin in sells

Pretty sure the franchise has been on a decline consistently. Each one sold worse than the last. SF Command sold terrible in Japan. SF643D only sold slightly better than it.

Well, Command is the important one in this case. Assault did well enough for itself (at least, in America), but its quality was making buyers wary. I'm unsure of Command's true sales numbers, but I seem to remember reading that it underperformed (if not outright bombing), to the point that it has more or less been on the backburner ever since. Star Fox 64 3D was intended to be basically a last straw for the series.

I don't see how anyone could look at a series like that and not say it's seen better days, not even counting the game quality (which I would argue absolutely declined).

If Mother/Fire Emblem can get two, so can Kid Icarus.
Mother probably doesn't deserve two, but the series was intentionally ended, I think it's okay as a sending off present.

Fire Emblem isn't a fair comparison at all. Fire Emblem has like three times as many titles with an ever changing cast of characters.

So, this isnt the mindset that goes into smash, popular franchises naturally get more roster space but this has never been a rule of thumb.
It's a general trend though, that's undeniable. What reason is there that Kid Icarus should get more than two other than you want it to have more than two?

Yeah, true point, that is. Man, I wish they'd just reveal some more so they'd have stuff to work with.

It'd be cool to have two a day to please each crowd. :(

Are the pics he uploads to Wii U true to the resolution?

Because Sakurai probably listened to the many complainers who felt knowing too many new comers before the games release made the over all experience less fulfilling.

I could care less. I'd be happy with know thing the whole roster now instead of waiting on pins and needles for my top guys and girl.

Kid Icarus could be a bigger franchise than Star Fox. But they should really avoid turning it into Star Icarus Punishment to achieve that.

Were you around for Dojo? It was a year of. "This is a Super Mushroom. It makes Mario grow very big. Kirby looks scared now. Ha ha! I hope you have lots of fun using this item in Super Smash Bros Brawl."

I think everyone retroactively remembers all the exciting days (OMG ITS SONIC FO REALZ) and not the endless "Food" "Yoshi" and "That stage you saw already in the trailer" updates. It was excruciating.

Without Sakurai I don't really want a sequel but;
1) Nintendo's are far from the worst hands to leave a franchise in
2) Hasn't Sakurai said he wouldn't do another SSB like a hundred times now? He can be "persuaded".

Seems like someone doesn't want Wii Fit Trainer in the game. If you guys support him, please sign this petition:

Remove Wii Fit Trainer

And for those of you who WANT her in the game, please sign this petition to remove the above listed petition:

Petition to remove petition.

lol at the other petition he made.

Guess he's really upset people like WFT.

Nah, I never saw Dojo. What was so wrong with it? Was he updating new things too fast or showing the same stuff over and over?

When do you guys think we will get a new character revealed?
Whenever Nintendo's big fall Nintendo Direct is is I think the most likely time.

There was an update every single weekday. Some of them were amazing, like newcomers and stuff, some of them were basic gameplay stuff that everyone with half a brain knew. It was amazing. New information every day (save for weekends) for nearly an entire year. I can't think of any other game hype machine that even came close.

"You Must Recover" still stands as probably the funniest non-update on the site.

It was really good at advertising the game, and obviously so exciting to get new info, no matter how small, each day. But at 15 I was always expecting megatons, so always got burnt out. Then by the time Brawl launched I knew every mechanic, item, and stage.

New Pokemon character next. I'd bet on it, but I like Simon Pegg in his non-Animoe glory.

So they basically gave away too much too soon?

Now seems like a snail-crawl though. Not enough balance here. :P

A lot of Dojo updates were silly stuff that all Smash Bros fans have known by now. We're talking like "YOU MUST RECOVER" (update telling us that we can recover from being thrown off a cliff). It didn't bother me, tbh. I don't know why people expected Megaton daily. No game can manage to have 200+ megaton daily updates.

Although there was ONE stupid update I recall that actually bothered me and it was the "Widescreen" update. Like... really, Sakurai? :lol

Did your 15 year old self actually expected Megatons every day?! I was 16 and even I couldn't imagine a game having that much content to do that.. lol

1) If there is another sequel I hope they split the franchise in two if they use Uprising as a blueprint for the series. I want a traditional sequel to the originals not another re-imaging/sequel thingy. I am not trying to imply that Uprising is bad, I am just saying that it isn't the direction I would want the franchise to take.

2) Sakurai says a lot of things.

this actually sounds plausible, cause afterall he's mostly just been confirming veterans, which is good, especially when people are worried about who is coming back but I wasent around through the japan time brawl days but didnt he mostly reveal newcomers early on then vets? only vet I remember being confirmed after a drought was fox

I wish I was around then. Super Smash Bros. for Dummies! anyone?

If you're curious about what we all went through, you can browse the updates in order here.

EDIT: The Dojo was amazing. So many memories.

EDIT: I had forgotten that they made us wait that long for the Meta Knight character profile update even though he was one of the first newcomers revealed.

"What are Pokéballs?"

...xD

If you look through the rainbow clouds created by the hundreds of strategically placed smoke balls, the identity of the Monster Hunter direct will reveal itself as a surprise Smash direct.

speaking of our kid icarus conversation earlier chuggaconroy is now LPing uprising for the LP enthusiasts out there

The thing was we were so amazed at ZSS, Olimar, Pokemon Trainer, Ike, King Dedede, MetaKnight, Pit, and Wario that there was this universal idea that if this is the starting roster, then what new comers are they hiding?!

Lucario, ROB and Wolf as great as they are, each one caused a ship storm since the majority of the unlockables were veterans.

Besides all that, we are getting more information from this game compared to the same time period after Brawls debut. If you got through Brawl's dojo you'll get through this. I am loving these daily screen shots personally. I wake either super excited, super disappointed or somewhere in between. I like that.

It wasn't such a bad update, as Groudon was actually revealed the same day, but they way the updates list is set up splits them.

"You Must Recover" was the next day's update though. The most legendary of updates. Had a comic made of it but I can't find it anywhere anymore.

A very consistent stream of coverage he did. I can see why it could of been an issue.

But SSB4's are too slow.
