Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

The 3DS game looking good.

if we get a new pokemon it very well could be a Mega version. Mega Mewtwo or Mega Lucario update. maybe Mewtwo with Mega Mewtwo as final smash?

Epona confirmed as playable/assist trophy!?

I've been thinking about this for a while, but one thing I'd add to the game: an item that summons a partner character to assist you for the rest of your current life. Character specific, and acting more like something akin to Nana or Pikmin than an Assist Trophy. So Link gets Epona (think FSA Epona), Luigi gets Polterpup (he could trip up opponents), Mega Man gets Beat (grab items before others can), shit like that.

I think there's room for more character-specific power-ups that aren't just insta-kill tools like Final Smashes. Heck, I think it'd be neat if they could take the "transformation" Final Smashes (Warioman, Super Sonic, so on) and make them into their own separate item.

But that's just me. Maybe balancing that would be a bitch.

Despite the fact that the 3DS version is supposed to be placing more of an emphasis on handheld titles for its stages I don't see many GB games making the cut.
But who knows, maybe there's a Sarasaland stage in the making, oh how i'd love to see the SML world brought into the modern era.

Brawl has a lot of really strange/obscure stages that were unlockable, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a similar situation here. As much as I hated it, an Electroplankton stage would make more sense on the 3DS version.

Honestly, I think it's pretty damn likely; Sakurai's just not quite in the position to be readily showing off new stage after new stage, and some of them are probably hidden unlockables that we won't know about until a few weeks before launch (and won't have confirmed until a few days before it, either).

That had better mean Wario Land stage too, though. Ideally one from 2 or 3, since they're my favorites, but one from 1 or 4 would be okay too I guess.

Iizuka Iwata: Game Gear Boy? *laughs*

I kind of wonder what they'll do for a second Wii U Zelda stage--assuming there is one, of course, but there is little reason to doubt there will be one. Zelda is a fairly console centric franchise, at least, in relation to some of the other franchises, and it has two stages on the 3DS version (strange we've already seen so many Zelda stages, by the way), so I doubt we'll see fewer Zelda stages in the Wii U version. Plus Zelda has had two stages in both Melee and Brawl (when most franchises actually lost stage numbers in that transition).

So, back to the potential second Wii U stage. Skyward Sword is the only new console title in the series that's been released since Brawl, so it's not an easy Brawl-like decision. They haven't yet used the same Zelda twice for stages in a single Smash; they could, of course, but considering how Brawl seemed to actively attempt to subvert that for every series, I don't see it particularly likely that we'll see another from Skyward Sword. Maybe something from The Wind Waker again thanks to TWWHD, though I am still personally hoping he reaches further back in the series than what is simply most recent. We still have never had an ALTTP stage. I certainly hope we aren't skimped for a new stage and are given a returning stage as a "replacement."

Fire in Gerudo Valley? I wonder what the deal with that is.

In regards to a new Zelda stage, I'm assuming they'll probably pull out something from ALTTP/TWW HD to complement Skyloft. Even if they don't do a TWWHD inspired stage I'm sure they'll bring back the Pirate Ship.

I feel like this would still be more likely on the 3DS version thanks to ALBW. If they wanted to, they could probably get away with a new MM stage to drum up interest in an remake, or maybe something loosely based on the NES games.

Speaking of returning stages, any chance of 64/Melee stages appearing at all? Would love to see the Mario 64 and Termina stages return for Smash 4.

I hope Melee's Hyrule Temple returns. One of my favorite stages for sure.

I'd also like the return of Mushroom Kingdom II and Saffron City, but that's me.

I dunno, I think it's Smash tradition to have past stages from just the previous game. I don't think N64/Melee stages will return, but if they bring back Brawl stages then Halberd and probably Pirate Ship are a lock.

I had a dream someone broke into my house.

And at the beginning of that dream, I read something about Smash being delayed.

I'm sorry guys but this basically confirms a delay.

Well yeah?! I had a dream long before E3 that Classic Mega Man got announced for Smash Bros! But somehow Data from Mega Man Legends got revealed too... which doesn't make any sense at all...

Data delays Smash Bros confirmed!

So do you guys think that Zero Suit Samus will be in? I hope that some of ZSS's traits are passed on to Power Suit(or is it varia? I forgot :p) Samus so we get a faster regular Samus. That would be wonderful.
and then Samus wouldn't be as low tier. :p

Saffron City is the GOAT Smash stage, it absolutely needs to be in
Hell yes. Add Mushroom Kingdom 64 to that too!

I think most Brawl characters included ZSS will return. I can't imagine that being cut.

Really? What kind of card game? If that is true, his redesign is much less drastic. Internet turned my fired emblem ice cold. That is still an improvement. He is wearing pants, protecting his princehood.

It was an actual card game, not a videogame. I've never played it, but I've seen scans of the cards, like that one you posted. It covered FE 1/3/4/5 and had new artwork for 1/3/4 (5 reused the official artwork).

If you've played Awakening, the artwork for the FE4 characters there actually came from the card game, rather than their original official artwork.

I wonder if a deliberately retro Zelda stage (as in, with NES graphics) would work. Though the first Zelda's graphics don't lend themselves well to side-scrolling (save for the item rooms, but I don't think anyone wants a stage based on those bland things) and not as many people have nostalgia for Zelda II.

Concerning ALBW, the lack of a stage from it in the 3DS version (assuming there aren't anymore Zelda stages in the 3DS version, which I really doubt there will be) is a big reason why I think it will have next to no representation in SSB4 in any significant fashion. I think it, as the premier first original 3DS Zelda, would have higher stage priority over a DS title and a remake. I think ALBW is simply too new.

DKC: Tropical Freeze is another title I feel will have next to no impact on SSB4. I mean, yeah, this and ALBW (and other titles, like Super Mario 3D World) are releasing only a few months after Pikmin 3, technically, which is getting representation, but Pikmin 3 has been in development for forever and, specifically concerning Tropical Freeze, I doubt Sakurai has had any real close contact with Retro Studios as of late.

I think we are far beyond the point in time where new game reveals will influence what goes in this Smash. I would even think that, for the most part, we won't see much of anything from any game announced at this year's E3 in SSB4. For the most part, I think it will be mostly the Wii era plus the first couple 3DS years.

Went off on a tangent there, but I think it's worth saying.

To feature more Pokémon on the stage and to have the dynamic stages representing types. The stage changes are much more cooler in 2 than the original. The only good stage change in the original is water since it looked really nice, while the ground one is the only boring one in the second.

I very much agree with everything you've stated, except that Sakurai's exchanges with Kamiya over Twitter make me think there maaaay be W101 representation even if it's minor. I could see at least a trophy, a lá Melee's Luigi Mansion's and Pikmin.

The big question regarding the games that are too new to be represented is ... Will they hold until SSB5, or will DLC bring us stages or elements from those games?

I want another platformer in Sarasaland. That could shake up the Mario platforming series (which it really needs).

But I'd settle for a Smash Bros. stage. Maybe when playing in Sarasaland, Mario's fireball turns into a superball.

Or they could just make a better stage based on Dark Moon.

Put the knife away man, don't let your emotions get the better of you.

No, I want the HD version :(
Luigi's Mansion and Metroid's Frigate Orpheon are my favorite stages in Brawl.
btw... have you guys discussed the amount of stages for this game?
Brawl had 31 brand new (well, 32 counting the Underground Mushroomy Kingdom) stages

Is 40 stages too much? :P

Since the stages would split to two different games so I can't see any of those games would have 40 stages. I would guess about 20-25 stages per game.

I doubt we'll see less than 25 stages per version. There's already 2 Zelda levels in the 3DS version. And there's about a good amount of franchises and each of them should at least get their own representative stage. Plus I'm sure Mario is going to have a bunch of stages as usual.

Maybe Sakurai could design a stage based on Skyward Sword's Lanaryu mining facility with time shift stones that you could hit to alter the stage. Another idea is a stage based on the Forbidden Grounds, where you know who will occasionally appear out of the seal and hurt the players on the stage.

I don't think we are going to see less stages than Brawl in Smash U , maybe in Smash 3D.

One thing I'm wondering is if the 3DS one will have only new stages or if it will have stages from prior Smash Bros as well.

That's true, so it would be wait and see game for us.

I just realized that Ring stage isn't in 3DS, so I wonder if it meant anything.
