Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

This sudden wave of new information has me prepared for a drought. I'm well prepared for the blistering sun, I have bottles of water, sunglasses, and back issues of Hustler stored in my bunker.

What new information? The only thing that got revealed recently was that you could change the thickness of the lines in the 3DS version.

Luigi
Lines
Two new stages
Villager and Wii Fit Trainer 3DS reveal

The updates won't sustain this level of freshness forever. A few stale weeks are inevitable.

Oh wow, completely forgot about half that stuff. You're right, there has been a bunch of news revealed recently. Kinda reminds me of the Daily Dojo updates.

This is tie-in content to the games, and many elements of related media casually appear in Smash. There are numerous Right Back at Ya! references for example, and Pokémon use their anime voice (which are notably "non-canon" to the games, where Pokémon don't say their name). There's no ground rule against non-game-based content as long as it's game-related.

But really let me ask you, do you want that terribly drawn, blob-faced Red over the good Sugimori art styled Red?

I've always been prepared for the drought. Project Melee has proved well to be a suitable replacement for my competitive smash fix until Smash 4 comes out.

Still a new character wouldn't hurt though...

New characters never hurt...

Unless a Megatwo and Clone Ridley reveal is in the cards.

We knew it'd happen, but we hadn't seen anything. Before the pictures of Wii Fit Trainer and Villager were revealed disclosed we still had tinfoil hatted wizards of doom casting spells of failure. Seeing is believing and we hadn't seen how they looked in the 3DS version until now. It was expected, but it was new.

We knew Luigi was gonna happen too, unless you are the type that would bet everything on turquoise in roulette.

So how are weekly threads going to work? I imagine it wouldn't help with the situation of people wanting to be updated but not going into a mega thread. Weekly threads itself would be mini-mega threads. And what's stopping anybody from creating a new thread for a new stage or character reveal that is revealed through a daily pic?

What I'm saying is this thread would essentially be moot if the threads are made weekly for "discussion" to occur.

Oh were having a weekly thread now?

Art style is very faithful where it needs to be (for example it uses Sugimori's Red, but not Unno's terrible HGSS Brock) -- it's just animation versus promotional art, so, obviously the latter has more fine lines and unique colouring. In any case, I want Smash to have Sugimori art as base, but I was talking about the slightly different outfit. Notice the black in his jacket. :-P

Blue's outfit is also notable for being based on his Champion sprite. It looks original because we never had art for that outfit, so, we didn't know its colours. Great work on that matter.

No it was an idea posted by Heath in the Other M stage thread since not everyone would be following this thread but want to be updated on the important bits of new Smash info.

I'm saying a weekly thread isn't really a solution. I think the current (or what should be done) system works. Make a thread when something new (item, character, stage, and etc.) is revealed. And even new info like the outlines can be turned off or made thinner/thicker.

I'd argue something like the Pilotwings stage is probably worth its own thread, since its something that isn't necessarily predictable, hasn't happened before, and is likely to pull at some nostalgic heartstrings.

At the end of the day, there's not a limit of space on a forum, so why not post a new thread any time something interesting comes up?

Sakurai's twitter cat pics deserve multiple threads.

Well yeah it wouldn't use HG/SS Brock since that's for gen 2 :P

And eh, I thought the jacket suffers from BW2/XY jacket syndrome.

Somewhat ironically, Brock has his HGSS outfit, except he doesn't look like an anorexic. It's like saying "Hey Unno, I want to specifically point out how terrible your Brock art was on HGSS!". Thankfully, not all Unno art was bad. Sabrina had a great redesign that totally fits her later discovered acting career. She should still be psycho for Origin though. It's like she had a change of heart between RGBY and GSC. :-P

Pit does look a lot better than he did in Brawl.

Pit looks so much better in this compared to Brawl. He looks more cartoony and I hope they use the same actor from KIU. I recall they switched actors during development of KIU (believe the original one was Brawl's actor, can be seen in early build videos and the one in the final copy is the new guy).

The colors of the dot matrix display that reads "Smash" looks very similar to Punch Out!! Wii's logo.

She wasn't a psycho in the games :P

I still think it's her B move

I think with Luigi we didn't know it would happen this way, given his previous status as an unlockable and the previous policy that unlockables not be shown until after the game's release. One of those things has changed, and we don't actually know which.

The Year of Luigi changes everything!
