I don't think Assist Trophies and Pokemon are in danger. Something like the Ice Climber can add up to 4 extra characters on the field, if it's a 4 player match up with 4 Ice Climbers. An Assist Trophy only necessarily adds one extra character, since they can restrict the amount of summons at once and can cut it down to just one.

I can't imagine that thing jumping. But he looks cool, that's for sure.

According to the dialogue he was supposed to be fast, and move like he wasn't even wearing that armor. His animations were always slow though.

He has also talked about how it has been difficult implementing some characters in the 3DS version. We don't know if that has any bearing on the Wii U version, but the talk of parity makes it easy to make those assumptions.

Some more Olimar Wii U screens would kill a lot of this talk.

the very character we were were worried about not even being in the game was revealed recently, he wouldnt confidently revealed olimar this early if he already knew olimar was going to be in both versions

I wonder when he will formally announce how the customization will work. It could definitely get more people excited for it and sell people on buying both versions.
 
It is crazy to me that anyone thinks the 3DS couldn't do something that Melee or Brawl did. Have you seen the things that the 3DS has done? It's fair to worry that the 3DS version might hold the Wii U version back, but only in the sense that the 3DS is obviously far weaker than the Wii U. All that means is that the games may be halted at Brawl-level, though. Which is indeed worrisome, I want to see far more than that from the Wii U. But the notion of the friggin Ice Climbers being too much for the 3DS is nonsensical.

I am not saying that Olimar will be absent from the 3DS, I am wondering if the 3DS version will affect Olimar's moveset in the Wii U version. Sakurai's comments on the subject haven't inspired me with confidence.

Melee's framerate could suffer with 4 Ice Climbers, and I think the 3ds has a bottleneck compared to the GC, even if it's superior in most ways.

Does anyone have a collection of all of the new stage pics?
 
I am really interested in what the customization can be. I suppose one form of customization HAS been revealed, ergo, changing the character outlines to removing them entirely in the 3DS version.

But could it extend to different playstyles via different special attacks/final smashes or some gimmicky change via something like Brawl's stickers?

Exactly. I'm not sure why anyone would think the 3DS would have trouble handling the Ice Climbers. The 3DS is a capable machine that could probably do a 1:1 port of Brawl without breaking much of a sweat.
 
My lack of faith in the 3DS will surely send me to hell.

DKCR3D had problems because it was a literal straight port of a Wii game. Rebuild that game from scratch on the 3DS, actually play to its strengths, I bet it woulda done a lot better. I've always been critical of that port for being so straight of a port.

They did rebuild it from the ground up -- it wasn't a simple code dump -- but yeah, they were beholden to the original game's blueprints.

I mean it was.. not from the ground up, obviously. That's the same engine, there's no way they'd rebuild it from scratch, it would defeat the point. It's modified to work on the 3DS, for sure, but they could've leveraged shaders more, and traditional poly/texture structure less, since that's where the 3DS shines. I think it could've benefited from being a bit more zoomed in as well, the TV-sized viewport was a bit much for that tiny screen. Less on-screen elements due to the zoom may have assisted in the performance as well.

This seems insane. More technical reasons aside, Brawl was a big game. It can't fit on a 3DS cart.

Brawl can fit on the larger 3DS Carts easily, and even easier if you cut the FMV from Subspace that took up the majority of the room iirc

Lower quality assets. Lack of AA in many places. It also had no waggle from the start so superior version. Really the only game I despised waggle.

Any game built from scratch made for the intended platform with its strengths in mind will be great. But that's my point. A 1:1 port of Brawl wouldn't work as DKCR3D proves.

And I'm not worried about 3DS Smash Bros. It will be a great game made for the platform with them trying to play to its strengths. It may lead to some challenges, but they will take the appropriate steps necessary for the challenges they may face. I acknowledge the 3DS isn't strong compared to other platforms and has a CPU bottleneck, but that won't stop it from being a great game. Cause I BELIEVE.

It would be able to fit.
And then there is the fact one wouldn't put CG scenes in the same resolution as they were in Brawl for the 3DS so there is a significant decrease in the size.
 
"NOJ" told me the rumor is super legit, but "NCL" told me it is totally bogus. I don't know who to believe...

And they wouldn't even have to, since they would still be scaled down to 400x240 to fit 3DS's resolution (provided they aren't 3D, in which case they'd be about the same size). Same with textures; to have the same visual result as Brawl (ie. not a better one), they'd have to scale them down. There's no worry as far as size is concerned even for SSB4.
