Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Confession time: I've never finished TTYD. It's a fantastic game right until that final dungeon. I turned it off there and never looked back.

Didn't bother with Sticker Star after all the bullshit I heard about it. The Iwata Asks for it was almost as painful to read as the one for Game & Wario.

Yea I always liked SPM too. It's probably my least favourite of the Paper games, but that's just because I hold the entire series in such high regard.

I mean, come on. Mr. L, The Green Thunder!

anyway, on topic: after Palutena, Paper Mario is my most wanted newcomer for Smash 4

...does the Game & Wario one spit on the legacy of the series like the PMSS did with Miyamoto vs stories?

:(

It's all about Francis.

One of the best parts of SPM.

That's the same game with the "I go onto the Internet to complain about games I never played" question right? I think I should play it sometime lol

Anyways should this topic be moved to gaming community? It kinda turned into a "smash community" thread anyways anyways. I'm not complaining mind you, it just seems like a thread I'd see over there

Edit: lol guess so

Well Paper Mario is a series (along with M&L series) that I feel is really underrepresented in the Smash series. So more Paper Mario talk in Smash threads is better. :p

There's "new news" every weekday with Sakurai pics, so I think that's the loophole that allows us to stay in gaming.

That and Wario Land, for me. Granted Wario only first showed up in Brawl and they seemed to have a pretty singular focus with him, maybe this time around there'll be a Shake It stage or something.

:(

From what I recall, it was basically the development team (Yoshio Sakamoto, included) not only continually patting themselves on the back for developing overly mediocre/shitty mini-games, but with the reveal that they actually had to get people who worked on Kirby's Epic Yarn/Metroid Prime/DKCR to get the project done on time (in other words the interview hyped it up to be some intensive all-star effort ala Brawl when all I could literally see was crap).

So if by "spitting on the legacy" you mean it spelling out "this game will not be fun in the slightest," then yeah, sure. Looking back on it, I guess it's not quite as terrible as the deluge of restrictions Miyamoto placed on Sticker Star (SO GLAD he didn't do the same for Dream Team! Lovin' it!), but the whole "assistance from other teams" thing was so out of the left field that it ended up being physically painful to read. Played the demo at the Nintendo World Store and the game was just as terrible as I thought it would be. Never saw anyone else play it for longer than a minute, either.

On the topic of Super Paper Mario, having replayed it last year I believe it's an incredibly well-written game trapped within mediocre gameplay. It's still funny and even touching at times but the 2D/3D gimmick isn't really as innovative as the game makes it out to be and the lack of an RPG system makes it pretty boring.

Speaking of which, what pic do you guys think we're getting tonight?

I'll take a risk: An item.

Gee... that sounds rough.

I just want a good old classic WarioWare game on 3DS. :(

Anyways, I'm guessing we see Zero Suit Samus tonight. It's time.

this one went waaayyyyy too far in the other direction, imo

the tutorials are kind of maddening, even for me, someone who loved Skyward Sword in its entirety. and it's just really talky-talky in general, while the story isn't half as interesting as it needs to be to justify all its chatter. still enjoying the game, but yeah... :(

I hear ya, bro. I've gotten back to some of the older ones and I realized I forgot how hysterical they were. I feel like they've dumbed down the series after the first three (Smooth Moves and D.I.Y were still alright efforts, but they still irked me in some ways).

...y'know what, screw the item. I'm gunning for a Wario reveal.

I kind of agree with the tutorials but I wouldn't mind them so much if some of them didn't treat the player like an absolute moron. The story's interesting so far and I've laughed a bit at some of the character interactions (anything with Luigi, lol)

Rest of the game is fantastic for me so far. Adore the spritework, the overworld is more open like the original, and dat music..only in the first two hours (which I've heard are the worst), so I imagine it'll only go up from here.

Also imo tutorials were the last of Skyward Sword's problems (unless you mean constant interruptions to explain things, then yeah, I agree)

Off the top of my head, Samus, Donkey Kong, Mewtwo/Lucario, Link/Young Link/Toon Link, and Kirby (if he sucks up one of those mentioned) can all charge their attacks in Melee and Brawl. You can also charge up the lazer rifle, and all characters can charge their Smash Attacks in Melee and Brawl.

Why you put it as Mewtwo/Lucario feels weird

Since I'm hoping for newcomers for pre-TGS Direct if it would happens. I really hope that they would announce popular japanese characters such as Takamaru or Palutena.

I really hope to see Ice Climbers tomorrow morning so I don't have to worry about them anymore. :P but I think that they might put one returning character in the trailer with newcomers for some reason.

Since he's talking about charge up attacks, Mewtwo and Lucario has the same exact one.

I dunno, Lucario you can tell where the attack is going. Mewtwo is, well, being a special snowflake, and things throwing energy balls in angles is cute.

TTYD > PM > SPM, but all three are amazing games. I'm never going to bother with Sticker Star unless I borrow it or something, though, as I don't want to support that sort of nonsense with money.

A new stage of some sort. It has been a new stage every other Tuesday for like the last three stages or something, so if there is any pattern to Sakurai's madness that would be it. How about some kind of Pokemon stage on the 3DS version?

so I just spent this time reading 2 or 3 pages of guys who played playstation all-stars(plus other games) and it was a good read but one thing that I just realized, was there ever a camera mode or a pause button that moves around the screen that can potentially capture hilarious moments involving sony characters doing things?

I don't think so. I don't recall that game having much of any extra options or features.

Brawl was terrible online.

With that said there is hope, if KIU is an indication (holy crap KIU's online is good)

Oh... while we're back at that subject, how was the netcode in All Stars?

More stable than Brawl, there definitely wasn't any slideshow moments like Brawl has. Though occasionally there would be lag/teleporting which could be frustrating considering you can get KO'd instantly by supers. And the occasional weird camera glitch here and there. But overall pretty good.

Yeah, sadly no photo mode. The game seemed quite rushed in terms of features.

its a weird to say, since the smash gameplay is such a solid good thing, but the majority of the content of something like smahs is the fanservice, I think ultimately thats where sony dropped the ball, they just said "lets make a fighter like smash using OUR characters@" and didnt look any further than that, 2ndly they only tried or atleast seem to say that their priority was on fighting game fans and fans of playstation games came 2nd to everything else
