Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Cool to see toon Link back. Also at this point it's pretty clear they plan on showing characters when they have a new game releasing. So if we don't see Sonic for the Japanese release of lost world or the new Olympics game I'm gonna be sad and worried. :( when do they come out in Japan?

Sonic Lost World - Oct 24 for Japan, Oct 29 for USA
Olympic - Nov 8 for USA

Smash Bros. might be the only game where I can legitimately have a blast just fighting bots.

I hope there's even better AI in this one. Y'know, just in case the online turns out like Brawl.

Kid Icarus isn't a fighting game. I'm glad Namco is on board, but we'll see.
I think the point to take away from that is more that despite having more dynamic and larger environments, with far bigger attacks that can envelop half the map with 8 players at once, Uprising had far better netcode than Brawl did (I've had matches with a nearby friend that dropped to 1fps despite being on FD and none of us were even moving). I'd argue Kid Icarus' multiplayer was a psuedo-3D fighting game at times, since the shooting mechanics are fairly limited in that mode and force you to get in close a lot of the time.

Basically coupled with Namco's good reputation for net code, how Uprising's was handled is a hopeful sign SSB4's online support won't be the complete disaster Brawl's was.

What makes you think Sakurai is picking the days? I finally see who's been pulling the strings behind this operation! And we've all have seen him before too! Sakurai has even tried to let us know who the real boss is!

Re: Online

I'm hopeful. But I just know that shooters are much easier due to the predictive coding that devs can use to hide any lag. For a pure fighting game? And one coming off Brawl? As I said, I'm hopeful, but I don't want to get those hopes too high.

As an admission, I never played Kid Icarus online to know the melee situation. Every time I picked up that game, I ended up trying (and mostly failing) to beat 9 heart levels.

Sneaking its picture on Pokémon Stadium 2 wasn't an easter egg.
It was a call for help.

Yeah, I mean I don't think Uprising's online or its netcode are amazing (your average western 3rd party game probably has better support), but I'd argue there's significantly more going on in an average Uprising multiplayer match than any Smash game, if not gameplay-wise then literal game-wise (more items/characters/maps/etc.) yet it runs far more efficiently. The most I've seen happen is the frame rate taking a hit if everybody's throwing bombs all at once. Also the campaign isn't really that great of a barometer for how multiplayer is; there's absolutely no Star Fox-style rail shooter elements and the on-ground parts have more of a focus on platforming/adventuring than the pure-combat a regular multiplayer match does.

Well, I'm definitely glad to hear that Uprising has even more stuff than Smash and runs smoothly. I'm not even hoping for frame-perfection. That's unrealistic. I just want something that's fun to play online and doesn't feel like each match is decided by the connection.

theres little to no reason to doubt that smash 4's netcode will be good,
1. in the same year nintendo released mario kart wii which had amazing netcode, and pretty much every online nintendo game since then has had great netcode.
2. namco is actually KNOWN for their great netcodes.
3. sakurai's last game was kid icarus, which has pretty good netcode.

I dont know guys but im pretty sure smash's online isnt going to be any better this time around despite the developers knowing that was the biggest problem with brawl.

So do you guys think we'll get Pokémon Trainer or Sonic next month? I'd say it's possible, we got two announcements this month as well.

We'll definitely get something Pokemon related, and possibly something Zelda related for Link Between Worlds. Whether Sonic is shown due to Lost World or not is more up in the air, though part of me hopes it gets a special Direct with Sonic's Smash reveal having a trailer despite not being a newcomer.

Also who's Maxwell supposed to be in that IGN 'leak'?

the funny thing is I dont think sakurai would cut nearly that many characters, for is probably the absolute maximum
Brawl technically cut five, depending on how you look at Toon Link.

Weird he chose so many original characters though like Jiggles and ROB while stating the reason was for more 'original' movesets. Really don't get how these people think through their fan rosters sometimes.

Disappointed that no one got where the last two Link recolours were from.

And while the sprite colours may look a little odd places on a 3D model (though I'm quite a fan of the red outfit) his actual colour scheme (i.e. the art work) doesn't look bad:

I didn't expect you to go all out with it, but awesome!! Thank you! :)
Once you have the layers in place they really don't take that long to make. I could post the original psd file if people want to play with it themselves but it is rather messy due to me making it a bit quickly during one lunch break.

I'm sure the netcode will be fine.

Kid Icarus has a lot more going on screen than Smash and that ran like a dream, so I guess the 3DS' online will be awesome, alongside Namco's skill.

Surely the Wii U will have good netcode too.

in the end he only cut 2(or 3) as mewtwo just didnt make it in time and theres codes suggesting roy was going to return.

... Was the second to last one the DIC cartoon version? The black hair look feels eerily familiar, but I can really put my finger on where.

Oh I know that, but they were still cut from the final game. Isn't Pichu the only missing Melee character in Brawl's character files?

First one:
Liberal Link's Awakening DX colour scheme.
Second one:
The male avatar from BS Legend of Zelda.

Wooohoo, a few months after the registration my account now is finally activated. Not being able to participate in the SSB4 threads broke my heart D:

OT:
Can't wait until Apr. 20th 2014! The reveal of my favorite SSBM and SSBB character for SSB4^^

Come on, it's not that hard.

Hint 1: Recurring character
Hint 2: The date I believe he'll be revealed

The previous announcements often (always?) were on important days of the respective series, either the release date of a previous or a new game of the series. Now y'all just have to search for a game in a recurring series which released at this date to be able to guess the character :P

EDIT: Beaten. I type too slowly :P

Direct week....?

Also, Lucas>Ness and Wolf=Fox>Falco.....just saying. <=D
