Here we go again.

Of course.

I never stop, its part of the fun.

Yup, getting a littls boring now..

Seriously Sah?..

Wow, I haven't posted in this thread for a while. Probably because not much has happened. Anyway, to perhaps make my return interesting, anyone interested in an avatar bet for a character reveal tomorrow? As in I think there will be a reveal.
Provided that I get a spider-related avatar if I lose, sure.
I actually really like some of those Donkey Kong songs. I think they are quite catchy.

We found out why. It started on 3DS to evolve the series, Sakurai saw the screen was a bit small, and Iwata suggested to bring it to Wii U too.

And then we have two Smash games.
Its scary to think that there was even a single point in time when they were planning on NOT bringing Smash to Wii U.

I was thinking yesterday while hearing a link between worlds OST how I hate even more the 3DS version. We will not hear a good soundtrack composed also of remixed or orchestrated DS and 3DS music becuase of the shitty idea of leaving all portable things to the 3DS version.
And the train looks like shit ripped directly form the original game, would have preferred seeing it as a new 3D model on wiiU.

So guys, iyo, what's the worst pic of the day ever?

I'd say today's is probably up there. A 3DS pic, and yet another shot of one of the least fun looking stages. The one where he hinted at Ridley as a stage hazard was sad too though. :\

haters gonna hate

One whole direct dedicated to the reveal of Palutena and Lucina for Smash. My body is ready!

haha if only

Lol, I should have known people would get caught up on that bit. Part of it is that of the two types of screenshots, that's the kind I'd prefer less. Part of it is just to poke fun at team 3DS. :P

When the heck are we gonna find out why there even need to be two versions of Smash?

The 3DS version has different stages, but that's not reason enough to make two versions, is it? What's the difference? Different trophy collection? More in-depth single-player? Or is having Smash be portable reason enough? Should I pick up both versions?

Or is it just a cash grab cuz the 3DS has a wider install base?

Nintendo has to make money somehow

can't wait for you guys to watch the direct tomorrow

i hope you're all expecting a star fox game by treasure

Disclaimer: I'm not directly saying I know anything. I know nothing.

So I'm guessing Spring Direct tomorrow and 2014 Direct in January. We might get a character tomorrow but I'm holding out for a release date next month.

The Direct is based on Spring releases, so we're going to get a brand new character based on a Spring release...
it'll be Bayonetta, COUNT ON IT

Is that right? I thought Sakurai wanted to do both consoles right off the bat when given the choice and the whole small screen thing being the main reason why Smash wasn't done on handhelds before the 3DS. Maybe I'm remembering wrong.

We're getting something Smash related tomorrow. We just are…

Some of the earliest interviews about the game, back before actual development started talked about that.

Specifically, Sakurai feels that a portable system makes the game a more "individual" experience in that, compared to a console, it's easier to make players attached to the data that they've built up and collected. The fact that you're carrying the hardware with you makes for a more personal experience.

The difficulty here is that the current Smash Bros. games haven't relied on rewards, collecting money or raising your character's level. There's no element of gaining experience to make your character stronger, Iwata noted.

Adding the notion of experience would pose a dilmena, explained Sakurai, as there are some players who would get into such a game, while others would not like it. Iwata added that placing a focus on experience would also make the game lose its instant play quality.

What Sakurai hopes to do is have the 3DS version of Smash Bros. allow players to build up their character through battle and rewards, then take their custom character to the Wii U version to face off against everyone. He feels it could be nice if they can make the "personal" portable space and the stadium-like "public" console space mesh together.

Ever since we started getting news about the actual game though, we've gotten no "positive" information about game modes or anything besides the basic gamaplay engine character and stages though. The only information about the overall package has only been negative confirmations (what isn't going to be in the game), rather than saying anything about what the game actually will have.

It's in interviews. Google "Smash Bros. 3DS evolve".

Here's the article you're referring to.

It sounds less like the 3DS version was the number one plan and more like using it as a method of franchise evolution was a possibility. Either way, I sincerely hope that the 3DS having a smaller screen wasn't the only reason that he opted to do a Wii U version, as it's not exactly the biggest of a portable Smash Bros.' problems...

He said the 3DS can handle it just fine, it was only the screen size which bothered him.

To be honest, a concern I have with the 3DS version is how much it'll need the second pad add-on. Won't be mandatory, but will the stick be essential for easy/serious play? Although there could be touch screen use. Hard to say at the moment.

What does a second analog even do in Smash?

Quick smash attacks. Almost essential to how I play and some characters like Marth really benefit from it. Also allows you to smash while going backwards easily.

The control layout is my biggest concern with the 3DS version, hopefully it supports the pad pro.

Quick Smash attacks, throw items in a given direction IIRC

Pretty much. So nothing major for casual play or if you never used the second stick. Ever since Melee, I've always used the second stick for quick Smashes, directional air attacks and item use. It'll be hard for me to adjust on 3DS. I'd imagine it will support the pad pro though.

That's news to me.

It probably supports the CPP, which I own, so no worries there.

Sakurai seems pretty thorough so I have hopes he will see the need for it. Though, it might be hard to choose between having the second stick or a 3DS grip for inevitable claw hands, lol.
