Received the digital video essential DVD and super speedway dvd today, calibrated my TV's image and my HT's sound quality and positioning with DVE, which is a rather nice calibration tool, though there's a little lack of explanation when it comes to advanced calibration.. but im still very satisfied and boy oh boy, my speakers and positioning sound a lot better now.
Then i started super speedway, an imax movie, in 16:9 and DTS 5.1, all i can say is holy freaking shit, the image quality from the imax cameras are way above your typical documentary film quality, the work they've done for the 5.1 sound is the BEST i've heard in my collection so far, its so damn crazy to hear all the little details as the driver goes at 200mph on the track, and the camera view is just a little above the pilot's head. The sound wooshes when passing throught a tunnel, going close to the fence or the tires hitting the side bumps, the air being sucked in by the vents, its all so accurate well positioned.
Its definitely THE benchmark movie i'll use when showcasing my dvd and sound system from now on, simply fabulous, and cheap too.
