Louisville market boasts the most loyal and passionate college sports fans in the country, according to new survey.

NEW YORK - Louisville is still two victories away from a national basketball championship, but the Louisville, Ky. market can already lay claim to having the most loyal and passionate college sports fans in the country, based on CSTV (www.CSTV.com) information gathered from a recent Scarborough Research survey. The Raleigh//Durham market, home to another team still alive in St. Louis -- North Carolina, along with fellow tournament teams Duke and North Carolina State, is the seventh-ranked market in terms of loyal college sports fans.

According to the Scarborough Research survey, 62.1% of respondents in the Louisville market said they were "very/somewhat interested in college sports." Runner-up Oklahoma City had 62% of respondents saying they were "very/somewhat interested," while Raleigh/Durham came in seventh with 51.9%.

im suprised were not higher on the list, when its college football season EVERY WHERE YOU LOOK its fucking BRIGHT ORANGE. NCAA football games sell more than halo here. Its fucking ridiculous.

Uh, the only reason Louisville won is because they have 2 colleges to root for. I bet half those 62.1% are UK fans :lol

Even Johnson City goes neon orange in football months; it's like ETSU doesn't even exist unless you know where to look.

Being from Ohio I am not surprised by most of this list .. but I would've thought a few more Texas cities would make it.

In Jefferson County, its about 65% - 35% UL/UK, according to the latest survey here.

And remember this was taken in September 2004 , before UL's 11-1 football season and #6 rankings, and before UL's final four season. You won't see many teams with a top 6 season in both sports. I can't remember the last time it happened actually.

Well, it's a good thing they took this poll during basketball season, becuase I don't think most people in the Raleigh / Durham area are aware that they even play college football.
