i'm actually working on moving from #24 to the suburbs of #1 here soon. I'll definitely bring the ranking down

I have lived all of the country, including 5 years in SF, and I would take Philly over any city I have ever visited. I am surprised it isnt higher.

The Crime, high cost of living, etc. If you are doing pretty good financially I hear its pretty great though. I've been a few times and the food is fucking amazing.

Crime is bad in Chicago, but the cost of living (rent at least) is quite low for a major city in the US. Certainly lower than the cities in the top 10 of this list.

Austin is great but the cost of living is pretty high. :(

It makes sense, since it has consistently made these lists over the last few years and weathered the recession though. Too bad nobody saw it coming and was able to plan for the massive population boom (i.e., build more affordable housing).

Tampa is awful, and I don't know how it's even in the top 50. Awful traffic (Tampa/St.Pete/Clearwater metro ranked 4th worst in nation), a lot of low class people, and high crime.

L.A is only awesome if you are loaded. I stayed with my cousin in Beverly Hills for a month and they don't do jack shit all day cuz they are loaded as fuck and just chill and party all day with models and shit. I live in NYC and there is no scene like that during the day. Nobody chills like that during the week. My mind was really blown on that lifestyle.

But if you are not in that scene in L.A, than it must suck. Imagine going out with no connection and last call is at 1:30 am? yeah that must suck.

LMFAO. I know some of these peeps. Im a Hamptons guy too and been all around the world. I just don't put up pics to brag about it.

I thought you were a hamptons guy?

Baltimore made the list. That should tell you how valid it is.

Mt. Vernon/Fell's Point/Canton/Fed Hill/Harbor East are all genuinely nice areas. Combine that with the great food, nightlife, and relatively low cost of living, and I can see why it would make the list, though probably a little lower.

Also, in case some of you reading this thread have never visited Hampton Roads in Virginia neither Virginia Beach nor Chesapeake is an actual city. They're independent cities that have more in common with counties than they do cities.

Surprised new orleans finished so hIgh. I agree with the ranking, but its always seemed to me like people that dont live here have a pretty low opinion of the place
Honestly, I'm a bit surprised, too, given the crime, drug, blight, and poverty issues that we have. But still, I absolutely love it here and wouldn't want to go anywhere else. The city has come a long way over the past seven years.

Yeah, so why the fuck are you a Michigan fan? :lol

Because I went to Michigan. <3 the school, not the state.

To me it's like asking why I would like MiT if I don't like the culture of the state Massachusetts. Schools are cultural and social islands unto themselves and I found Michigan to be quite the panacea indeed. Also, it was the best of the schools I got into.

Well uptown is pretty nice and the culture is amazing.

I saw Lexington KY... That city has exploded over the past 20 years.

Columbus over Cincy? I think that's fair. Columbus has no character/style, but it has a ton of awesome stuff and it's easy to get to.

Philly is ok to go for a visit for some food or whatever, but to live in that filthy city with it's well, major problems, no thanks. Pittsburgh on there is laughable as well. And Baltimore? Crazy... I don't know too much about the rest outside of NYC, and some VA cities, but them putting Philly and Pitts up there so high would make me avoid any of those cities on that list.

When I moved back, my parents made me promise I'd live uptown (on high ground) along the parade route. The cost of living and housing prices have gone up noticeably recently, especially as more folks buy houses and renovate them.

That, and despite being more physically active than I was in Austin, I've still managed to gain ten pounds in the year that I've been here. My god, the food.. mmm...

Great to see DC at 3rd, wonderful city. But how the hell is Arlington so far below it? Its proximity to DC gives it a lot of the cultural and economic benefit, without the crime and high taxes. Hell, Arlington had 0 murders in 2011. ZERO.

It does have a lot more dbags though.

Michigan repping with... nothing!

This list is not going to be for everyone obviously. If you have a solid career and love food, Chicago will be at least top 10.

I think you forgot to add the 'for Texas' bit at the end of your sentence.

Everything I hear about Pittsburgh is great. I need to go on vacation there.

Really? Can someone with some Pittsburgh experience clue me in on why the city is so great? Never been and all I picture is a less shitty Detroit when I think Pittsburgh. GAF, please educate me!

Not really. It costs me much more to live here than in Chicago despite the significantly lower wages I receive. I mean obviously it's not San Francisco, Boston or New York -- but it's still high in comparison to essentially everywhere else.

Aren't you living central though?

Lol, what about San Fran is gritty now? It's all yuppies now, isn't it?

Also, wtf at Cleveland being before LA.

Cleveland is currently experiencing a resurgence mostly due to the Cleveland Clinic and a Casino. Lot's of people moving back downtown and some nice investments are building the area back up.

I really enjoyed my trip to Cleveland last month. The bad rap it gets is unwarranted, IMO.
