SW:KOTOR; Anybody played it with a new generation card?

Suikoguy

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
I recently purchased a X800 XT, and on Dantoonie (outside the enclave) the game comes to a crawl (less then 1fps). The forums say this is a known problem with drivers after 4.1. However, I can't install anything before 4.2 beacuse aparently the card does not support drivers that old. (I Followed the complete uninstall procedures but I still get the INF ERROR) I was hoping to finish it before KOTOR 2, but its unplayable at this point :(

I had a one of the "crappy" drivers installed when I hit that level. You're right about the less than 1 frame. It was hard to even exit. You'd hit escape and it'd take 20 seconds before all your other movements were updated at .25fps.

Haven't played it in a while, so it's possible the latest drivers are fubared again. That said, I seem to remember 4.6 and 4.7 working (Not quite as well as the "optimized" version, but almost as well. But one of those drivers has a memory leak that causes random crashes whenever you have to load a new section (Very annoying to have frequent crashes). But one worked pretty well. I'm thinking 4.7, but not entirely certain.

Edit: This was on a Radeon 9800. But if you can use an X800 with that driver, I can vouch it solves the slide-show effect.

welcome to pc gaming

Welcome to a shitty engine that's the least reliable game of the last two years that I've played (And I blame a lazy ass XBox port as the source of the problem).

Does it work with the Geforce 6600? I just got the card and KOTOR is one of the games I was wanting to get.

I think the vid card that's coming with my new rig is a Radeon X850. Will I have this problem?

4.11 driver version works ok, at least its not lagging at .10 fps :)

KOTOR2 better run better

It’s also the best RPG ever according the holy gospel of game rankings.

It should have been based in the era of the clone wars given how many damn character models were reused a million times.

What are you talking about?

All aliens look the same!

On a serious note it was the one aspect of the game I would of like to see improved.
