Sweden has always been a big market for PC games...and I don't see why that's so embarrassing. Also, it's not like this chart is any better/worse than the UK/US charts when it comes to crappy games. :P

I highly doubt it's a big market for anything with a population of 9 million.. Game prices are also very high, even compared to rest of Europe. Sweden has a lot of very talented developers though.

edit: prince, it's lotr: third age

Obviously, I meant that PC games generally sell more copies than console games here in Sweden, that the PC market is big in a relative sense (ie the market for PC games is bigger than it is for console games). I guess I left my post open for misinterpretations. :P

well yeah DICE and Starbreeze are two of them. Prices are really high as you said.

where do you usually do your shopping? esp. new games have extremely high prices , around $90, by comparison in UK they're around $60-70$ I believe.

The thing that one has to keep in mind with the Swedish chart is that it only takes into account 300 shops (our magazine is sent to at least double that amount of game shops through out Sweden), most of which are places like Onoff and El-Giganten where they don't have a full selection (bascially first party titles (expect for Nintendo in some cases), EA:s full line-up (their sales people rule) and a few selected other titles). For instance I don't think any of the EB Games shops (30 or so are in there) as well as other specialists. Nevertheless, EA are incredibly strong over here. For a population of 9 million we get a lot of localised content in EA games.

Game prices in Sweden range from 70-80 dollars typically for new titles. But every now and then there's a price war on a certain title. One chain sold Halo 2 at 55 dollars from day one as an example. But the prices have been the same throughout this generation, maybe they've even sunken a bit. It's just that the dollar is so low now...

I import hardware and games from the US. I save around 50% by doing that. Etc a wavebird is going for $80 (if you convert the currency to dollars) in a local videogame shop here, while it's like $30 on the net.

Where (as in website?) do you import the hardware/games from? I thought you'd have to pay import fees from US.. What do you need to run the 110V thing? I'm planning on doing the same thing when next gen comes, if it's as cheap as you say.

I usually shop from Tronixweb.com (US) or videogameplus.ca(CA) or play-asia.com(HK). All 3 are great and fast. If you email the company and ask them to put your items as gifts you often avoid custom fees.

I use a stepdown converter (that can be bought locally if you want) to run 110V things. (220 to 110V)

Sagan om den tredje tidsåldern (PS2) what game is this ?
Let's translate. Sagan (saga) om (of) den (the) tredje (three) tidsåldern (tide (time), old (age)). Saga of the third age, aka. Return of the King.

and Slaget om Midgård is the battle for middle-earth. Interesting that middle-earth = Midgård (Midgard), which is also in Nordic Mythology the place where men live(Asgård being where gods live and Niflheim for the dead).

cool thanks i new Slaget om Midgård - Härskarringen was Battle for Middle-earth so Lord of the Rings games get translated in Sweden, funny they don't do that in here Holland.

Många svenskar med kass dygnsrytm?
Let me translate that. :P It said 'Many swedes with screwed up sleeping cycle?'. And yeah, I'm pretty fucked up on that point. I mean, it gets dark at 4 PM here. :P

If anyone cares I'd like to explain the å, ä and ö. :)

Å you get when saying 'oooh' (the o part).
Ä you get from saying 'aaass' (the a part).
Ö you get from saying 'uuuuh' (guess you retard).

There you go.

Lots of Swedes and yet noone got it quite right (Drexon, shame on you! :) ):

Slaget om Midgård - Härskarringen = Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth

Sagan om den tredje tidsåldern = Lord of the Rings: The Third Age

The "saga" stuff is something we're stuck with since the original translation of Lord of the Rings. Lord of the Rings in daily speech is "Sagan om Ringen", the saga of the ring. But they're making a more accurate translation of the book now... sadly they are changing many of the classic names too, which sounds silly for those of us who read it already.

I saw some Norwegian hardware numbers yesterday also. Total numbers sold.

322.346 Playstation 2
34.666 Gamecube
100.000+- Xbox

I was very surprised too see so strong Xbox numbers. Gamecube seems much more popular to me here.

Playstation 2 sold 6 times more games than Xbox in 2004 though, which shows how big piracy is for Xbox.

1.700 N-Gage. That is not systems, but number of N-Gage games sold in 2004. :lol Sad.
