Switch 2 is a magnificent little beast. Can it handle GTA6?

It will run at 2fps, Digital Foundry will claim it's an "impossible port" and Nintendo sheep will make 50 threads about how Switch 2 is more powerful than a supercomputer.

Just like the PS warriors have been claiming their console is better than a six grand PC since day one then....

We've already seen a few comparison videos Switch 2 vs PS5/XSS (Cyberpunk, Hogwarts, Yakuza). Switch 2 versions are running on par to PS5/XSS or maybe just slightly lower quality, either way the difference is marginal 🤏

My question is can Switch 2 handle GTA6?
We dont even know if xss can handle it, since base ps5 gpu is 2,5x+ stronger from xss the weaker xbox version might be some 540-796p drs upscaled to 1080p with dips under 30 every time srs shit is hitting the fan, on top of all other cuts that affect smaller vram poll(worse textures/shadow quality). Those other versions on grown up current gen consoles will look at xss version and be like:

Well, Switch 1 can handle GTA V. Any ports on the horizon?

I'm sure that GTA VI will skip Switch 2. Take Two will simply ignore eShop because Nintendo will never provide special store percentages and lower cuts like Sony or MS. Part of the reason why HoyoVerse games basically skipped Switch despite the very ancient GI announcement and came to Xbox earlier than on Nintendo platforms.

Hardware issues are a thing too (especially the CPU and vram bus), but that's not what should be discussed here IMO.

They could make it run on the Switch 2, for sure.
Now, is that enough to say that Switch 2 could "handle" it? It would be setting the bar low for what a good gaming experience with that game should be, I think.
Low res, low details, low fps. Everything on low.

Not excactly the way to experience a modern blockbuster videogame.

"Switch 2 versions are running on par to PS5/XSS(...)"

This is what clickbait videos lead to. Native ps5 games are not the same as backward compatible ps4 games.

As for the question, it all depends on how scalable the new GTA will be.

wrong. Yakuza, Switch 2 is better than PS4 version running on PS5
PS5 does nothing to Yakuza 0 because it runs trough regular old backwards compatibility. It's a PS4 game at heart, it's only natural NS2 runs it better.

How compromised its on Series S could be a good indicator of it could be possible and at what price. I don't think DLSS is going to solve all challenges.

Plus, I don't see Rockstar very interested. They are not in a rush ti put it out on PC despite how big the market is. I don't bet trying their biggest game on a challenging platform that today has 0 units sold is going to be very high on their priority list.

2K has had good words for Switch and they are releasing Borderlands 4 on it this year so maybe they're interested in exploring it but the console has to perform and third parties has to sell on it. All in all fells like planets have to align for all of this this to happen.

Cyberpunk runs on the Switch 2 cause it was "runnable" on the ps4 and xb1. When a game is running at 30fps only on ps5 and series x and pushing their limits (most likely, won't know for sure till the game comes out), Switch 2 has no hope other than maybe some horribly butchered port.

I'm not even sure the PS5 and Series X can handle GTA6 well. GTA5 pushed the PS3 and 6 perhaps beyond their limits, and fps dropped below 30 quite a lot, and I feel like with the PS5 and Series X it won't be quite that bad, but there will be drops, I feel. The switch2 struggles to run current-gen 60fps games at 30fps, and GTA6 will probably be the most advanced game world in terms of simulation, interaction, etc. The arm CPU won't be able to keep up, and while graphics settings are relatively easy to scale back, the core physics and design would require a massive effort to port if its even possible.
