Switch 2 Joycon patent confirms mouse functionality

Also funny that this thread is like "great for third parties", I'm more interested in what nintendo does with it. They always plan something to use new functionality. Ring Fit Adventure used the infra red really well, also Labo

Sounds silly considering the size of it. Doesn't looks like that type of support and more like a "game" gimmick, something they usually do.

Here we go a new generations of fucking retards that swear by mouse controls with the most unpleasant grip ever made..

Don't believe me?
Go back and read how people loved the claw controls on the psp to play monster hunter

Now there's no point in keeping my computer. With mouse functionality the Switch 2 is basically better than a PC.

STrap the Switch 2 to your face, sit in your desk chair and play MP4 with a joycon mouse.

Or wiimotes with an entire generation of 1st party games with unnecessary bs waggle controls. At least we know it has to be optional since the system is a handheld hybrid.

Most uncomfortable and un ergonomic mouse ever.
At least it has a better designed charging spot than this one:

I wonder if it will support ANY mouse or just the built-in mousecon?

We are calling it mousecon right?

or "Moswer" (pronounced like Boswer)

This will be great for competitive online games, for everything else I rather play from the couch.

BTW, didn't Nintendo patented a mouse-like wheel bumper buttons ages ago? They definitely wanted people to use the thing as a mouse lol

Nice, maybe we can start to see more classic RTS from PC like Starcraft and Command & Conquer.

Might even give Switch 2 the edge in FPS gaming.

Hopefully Nintendo will support normal KBM support.

And I am sure we will see a whole bunch of different form factor controllers from Chinese manufacturers same way as we have on Switch 1.

i dont see how is this going to "improve" the games.
Reminds me of wii u

Can't wait to see what they use it for. Using this as a proper mouse however is gonna suck, the ergonomics are just bad. You can't rest your hand on this thing at all.

So what I am looking forward to are 3rd party options. Someone will make a proper mouse with all the joycon buttons and thumbstick if this is usable in 1st person shooters.

Never planning to play this console on a desk, so this is totally useless.
I've heard this point before, but I've been envisioning playing it on the arm of my couch or in a pinch (like on a train or something) on my knee as I've done with mice in the past. Based on what little we know, do you think that's viable, or do you envision only a desk/table setup working properly?

I want rail shooters on this thing

Kid Icarus (without hand cramping stylus style shooting), Star Fox, Sin & Punishment

They will need a game to showcase the Moswer functionality and I can think of no better game than Sin and Punishment 2 Remastered!

Sweet heavenly mercy!

I guess I just still don't find this concept for console gaming super interesting. What do you move the mouse on, a Nintendo mousepad? Seems like an unusual way to play a console game on a television.

Mouse control is objectively better for many games. I play AOE2/ starcraft on my TV using the arm rest of my chair as a mousepad all the time. Even something like slay the spire feels like shit on a controller. Or Civ, which is seemingly popular on Switch even with terrible gamepad controls.

It's good to have more controller features and capabilities. It will provide more ways to play and maybe new gameplay types for the Switch.

Imagine the same situation with a PC mouse. If it works for you, then this should work. Personally this would not be comfortable for me.

I'm very curious to see how well this works. I'm skeptical about its utility, but hopefully they prove me wrong.

Best part about this? All the people swearing by motion controls will be put to the test in Splatoon when the competitive play-2-win crowd get used to mouse controls.

These patents are very interesting, if you go to the drawings page you can see the internals of the shoulder buttons. It is quite complex, I think it's because these need to act as mouse buttons so they will need that clicky feeling and sound.

Also you can see that the slot in the joycon is wider than the protruding pin in tablet so that nothing touches them when the joycon snap in place.

Should alleviate some of our concerns

Just noticed that the last pages show Switch 2 joycons with Switch 1 rails. Maybe they will release smaller Mousecons for Switch 1 users so that the poor can join the mouse party too
