I want to make one now. Stop paying 15 bucks a month for this stupid DVR service. :p I should start pricing one with a 300-500 gigs of HD space. :D

Anyone else watch this? Or From the Shadows? Listen to TWiT? Know of any other Tech shows?

Watched this last night, and I also listen to TWiT. Though it may not be realistic now, sometime down the line I'd like companies to buy into shows like Systm in order to let them last. It's good to see people like Kevin Rose do his own thing.

TWiT makes me giddy like a schoolgirl... or maybe because Leo Laporte owns my soul.

Anyway, Kevin Rose is probably one of the hardest working twenty-something in media. I hope it all works out for him.

All of the above. I'm extremely impressed by the post-TSS independent movement and the quality of it all. Great, great stuff; it actually gets me excited about the Internet again. I just wish, Ms. Corbin would resurface.

Yeah the MythTV box is great. Althought I already have a Mac mini and I was intending on using it as my DVR. Unfortunately, I still need to setup a Linux box only because I don't have cable input on my Mac? If so, I will skip this idea... I don't think we have FireWire output on our generic Illico receiver up in Quebec...

Cable boxes with Firewire out (any modern digital one should) will plug right into a Mac mini. The Mac also has applications which will allow you to download content right off the wire AND change the channel. SOmeone out there even did an iCal calendaring application for scheudling downloads of content. Google around, shouldn't take long.

I love Systm and am so impressed with the production value of it. I'm so happy I can get my techno-geek fix without a shitty TV channel anymore. Between TWiT and Systm, I'm set.

I won't even build any of this Systm stuff, but it's so cool to just watch.

I didn't care much for the first ep (what they built) but I love that they're making stuff like this and making a show out of it.

Between TWiT (When they're not talking about Apple for 48 minutes), Systm, and From the Shadows, it's awesome what they're all doing. :D

I've read about it but I didn't knew it was possible to switch channel right through the Mac. All I've read was about was in the thread you started a while ago but unfortunately, I don't think Videotron offers FireWire supported boxes... I'll move in my new place in 2 weeks, I am going to check it more deeply then...

Thanks for the link concerning VirtualDVHS

Seems cool that they are starting to do things that are more approachable -- the first episode just went totally over my head. "All you have to do is build your own circuitboards!" :lol

What's the smallest PC I could find for a setup like this? The appeal of a DVR box is the slimline factor.....nobody wants a noisy tower sitting next to their television set.

You could probably get all this into a small Shuttle case.

What else are they going to talk about, Microsoft? To be frank, things at Apple lately have been booming. What was that I read this morning, more features from Longhorn cut?

I'm all for talking about whatever, it doesn't always have to be about Apple, but as of late Apple has been really busy and people love to talk about it, especially a show dedicated to technology.

I just don't want 50 minutes on just one topic. The first couple of eps had many different topics...Episode 8 just got really boring after a while listening about the same topic. Even on the other eps, where there were some topics I didn't really care about, I'd listen to because it was only a few minutes long. The Apple/Intel is big news, but, 48 minutes, plus another 38 minutes (they released a new ep, which is also pretty much All Apple)

I'm just waiting til sunday for hopefully a little more variety.
