Diablo sauce returns to Taco Bell just in time for Cinco de Mayo (May 5, 2016) and this time, it's back permanently.

The return of the sauce makes it the hottest sauce currently available on the Taco Bell menu (although the Fiery Ghost Pepper offered with the Dare Devil Loaded Griller may have been spicier).

It's not all good new for the sauce-inclined at Taco Bell though. With the arrival of Diablo, Salsa Verde is being discontinued, although you can still find it by the bottle in grocery stores.

What the fuck? Salsa verde is literally the only sauce they have that doesn't taste like ketchup with too much cayenne in it.

NOOOOO.

Salsa Verde was their best sauce. I fell in love with it ever since they were testing both that and that Oaxaca sauce. You will be missed, best sauce. I look forward to seeing you in two years when they bring you back because "the fans demanded it."

Irritated about the lack of verde. That stuff is fantastic.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
I've always preferred the standard Hot. Everything hotter (fire, volcano, etc) ruins the heat/flavor ratio in favor of heat.

diablo has an almost minty or toothpaste taste. i enjoy its novelty where as verde always just tasted like their mild sauce just salty and slightly bitter.

I went to Taco Bell today and there was no Salsa Verde. I didn't know what to do, since I usually put a packet of fire and verde on everything. :l

Diablo sauce has a hint of lime flavor. So verde would have been redundant.

Diablo sauce is also actually spicy and not just Taco Bell spicy, verde isn't either. It's not really a suitable replacement. I'd go with Diablo personally but I doubt I could tell the difference between their mild and medium sauce so it seems weird to get rid of the choice that gives some variety.

Didn't really like the flavor, but I can drizzle it as a base sauce to add some heat while I spritz on Fire sauce for the rest.

Thankfully Verde will remain in stores in bottle-size. Now I will have to leave a few bottles in my car for my T-Bell runs.

Wait, Salsa Verde is the one in the green packets?

WTF WHY?!

I went to my local Bell the other day and they only had the Verde and the Hot out for customers. I'm going to take a shitload of Verde next time I go back now.

I dunno how this is possible. None of them are hot to me, they just have varying degrees of flavor from neutral to Diablo's kinda strange.

Like they're trying to make you uncomfortable without actually being much hotter.

Yeah as a spicy food fan, Taco Bell is still Mass Market "Hot", which is more "hey, pepper taste!" than heat.

Hot is more of a peppery taste, Diablo is more of a vinegar taste. The closest Taco Bell has been to legit actual hotness was the recent "dare" quesaritos that they killed after a month.

Either way, happy to see Diablo back. I missed it.
