I've done the same before. When you solve the problems keeping you awake you'll notice you can manage posting and living. The problem was never the forum, but the mind.

Good luck and I hope you achieve what you're looking for, man! See you soon!

You know you can do the things you want to do and still post from time to time, right?

Maybe the real moving on with your life is realizing you don't need to "officially" quit an Internet forum.
True, but for some having an active profile means having easy access to return to something you wish to move away from.

Whether we like it or not posting on forums can be like a drug and over indulgence will likely become bad, soon or later.

So by having the account banned, he'll be more likely to focus on his other ventures.

I wish them the best! o7

If the forum is getting in the way of his goals, a clean separation makes perfect sense. "To many, total abstinence is easier than perfect moderation" - St. Augustine.

Wasn't the dude banned not a long time ago? Is there some teenage-drama going on I'm not aware of?

Did he request to be banned? I've always wondered why people do that.

Like when people close their Facebook/Twitter/Instagram accounts when they want to go away. During the summer I wanted off social media for a month or so. I just deleted my apps. Never felt compelled to go out kamikaze style and shut my accounts down.

That amount of posts in just two years...

I never heard of you, and I don't know you...but this is for the better.

Yes, he requested it. He talked extensively about internet addiction so it’s totally reasonable to take steps to close off his own access.
It's not talked about as much it should be, but internet addiction is serious and can be very unhealthy. Especially for your mental health. I have a feeling a lot of people have it without being aware of it. There is so many people that spend their life on social media, it's always one arm reach away now. It's crazy to think that those people would feel lost and isolated if Facebook & Twitter didn't exist tomorrow. Even phones are basically mini computers at this point. There is nothing you can't do on a phone now.

I genuinely hope MHK is able to overcome it. It's not easy to open up about that sort of thing. At one point, I felt my reliance on the internet growing also. I had to take many steps to calm that down. I barely use Facebook anymore, don't use Twitter, use a 'dumb' phone so I don't get distracted by apps and give myself days away to read/write or just do other hobbies. It's really important to look after yourself mentally, as much as it is physically.

Damn, and here I thought compulsive over-masturbation and hard drugs were the only things I needed to look out for, and now I'm told the internet boogeyman is licking his lips, too? This is a scary world we live in.

Yep. I definitely suffered from it in the past and wasted too much time posting hundreds of times a day etc. for a lot of my late teens through early 30s. I've mostly gotten over it and have a healthier balance of using forums, Reddit etc. for info and fun and not getting obsessed.

I still have to be mindful of it and step back when I find myself spending too much time or getting to annoyed with folks a d having my mood negatively impacted etc. Been posting way too much this week, but that's just due to being laid up and recovering from surgery and struggling to focus as much on games or shows etc. with the pain meds. So I’ve been tending to hit forums a bit after a dose and then get back to gaming or whatever as the effects on my attention span wane after an hour or two. Finished those up earlier today and on to just Tylenol now so should be getting back more to normal focus wise (assuming the pain is ok).

Before he was banned earlier this month, MHK said he was inspired to continue writing game reviews and would share one but he never did, so I admit I'm disappointed seeing him leave. But at the same time, I understand his decision to leave GAF behind (or at the very least take a long break from our community and any other equally stimulating websites).

Anyway, I know some users will talk shit about him but that's just mean and unfair, especially considering he is unable to defend himself. He was the first user to gift me GAF Gold for a thread about why I think Hideo Kojima makes the best game trailers. Early on, I was nervous about sharing my gaming opinions. I tend to overthink things, that maybe what I think comes across as weird or unusual to others. But MHK was one of the many users who responded positively and I realized I had more in common with the community here, discussing retro games and niche genres like Japanese survival horror or Japanese games set in America.

NeoGAF is a very large gaming community and we often remember more active users without realizing there are many others with less posts that spend more time reading threads. That said, I would like to thank MiyazakiHatesKojima for being one of the many users that made me feel welcome. He reminded us that we like to have fun on GAF, and I think one day, perhaps on his third GAF anniversary, we might see him posting again.

In any case, I wish him the best on his life journey.
