Take Two announce Xbox GTA:San Andreas

I cannot wait for the PC version!

60fps.
MP3 support
Mods

so will people keep their xboxes so they can play this, or sell it for a new xbox coming out about the same time? The mind boggles!

Third quarter?! That's fucking bullshit. How could it possibly take that long? Then again, I'm sure there's some period of exclusivity worked out between SCEA and them.

it's pretty funny, cause right after work today I was going to go to CompUSA and get it for $34.99 after seeing Wario64 post the deal. I'm definately holding off now. I can wait.

And they finally look to have the SEC off of their back, to the tune of $7.5M (currently an offer by TTWO, not the final word)

Take-Two said its fourth-quarter results included an accrued expense of $7.5 million for a settlement offer it made to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in November. The company said the commission staff has agreed to recommend the settlement to the full commission.

Take-Two said under the offer, it would pay a civil penalty of $7.5 million without admitting or denying responsibility and be barred from future violations of securities laws.
Fourth quarter 2004 net income of $62.6 million and diluted net income per share of $1.36 compared to net income of $26.3 million and diluted net income per share of $0.58 the prior year.

"Additional products planned for fiscal 2005 from Rockstar include a new console title based on a proven brand from Rockstar's internal studios, titles based on two of Rockstar's premier brands for Sony's highly anticipated PlayStation®Portable platform (PSP(TM)) and the release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in Japan."

So GTA and Max Payne on PSP in 2005?

Why announce it so soon?

I guess they felt they had to disclose it from a finanical reporting standpoint.

I'm not surprised on it being released on Xbox, although the timing is interesting. I guess they didn't want to do Oct of next year, which would traditionally be a better time, because of the Xenon launch.

I am suprised they announced it before Christmas as that can certainly blunt some PS2 sales through the beginning of January a bit.

I mean, if they've waited two months to get it already ...

Yeah, because we all know Casual gamers all goes to the internet for their daily gaming news.

I think they announced it because it's coming out in June rather than October (only ~6 months away). They moved the release to the summer because releasing it closer to Xenon would hurt sales big time, imo, and disclosing its existence now (which most people guessed anyway) probably won't hurt PS2 sales all that much, either.

Definitely, because we all know that news that originates on the internet, stays on the internet.

Take-Two says game hardware availability improving
Thu Dec 16, 2004 04:48 PM ET
LOS ANGELES, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Video game publisher Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. (TTWO.O: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Thursday it has seen signs of improving availability for video game hardware this holiday season after some shortages.

"We're seeing signs of hardware availability improving," Chief Financial Officer Karl Winters said on a conference call with analysts. Take-Two said shortages of hardware affected its distribution business in the last quarter.

Sony Corp. (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) has acknowledged shortages of its market-leading PlayStation 2 video game console due to heavy demand.

Heh, because GTA:SA just isn't selling enough damnit!

Seriously though, this makes me a happy Xbox owner, seeing how my roommate (who owns a PS2) doesn't play GTA games.

My question is: Will they release a Xenon version? I forsee them making a 'trilogy' of sorts with mods and expansions for Xenon launch... probably...

They've already said that they won't port the existing GTA games to next gen consoles at a conference earlier this month.

Word from the Take Two stock boards at Yahoo is that Rockstar bought the developers of Amped and the developers of Top Spin and has them working on next gen development.

This is how Capcom should have announced RE4 for PS2. Atleast one month after the cube version been out.

I'll take the Xbox version please. I hope the folks playing this on their PC enjoy it. For me, I don't want to hunker down over my monitor to play a GTA game. Analog controls feel natural as well.

Rockstar would have bought Indie Games (ex MGS SLC) from MS (rumoured to be for sale) and PAM (independant french developer) ? I'd understand the SLC team since they have a bit of the "Rockstar touch" with Amped, but buying PAM who produced one good game and lots of bad ones would not make much sense.

During the fourth quarter, the Company acquired Indie Built, a Salt Lake City, Utah-based development studio focused on next generation console products.

that must be them.
why the hell is MS selling all their first party? first party is very important. there's almost nobody left except bungie and rare.

FUCK
From what they said in the conference it seems Midnight Club has just been moved back a month to February to allow for more development time. Warriors... hey at least they're still talking about it, not even mentioned Duke yet :p

Bye bye PS2 version of SA. I can hold out for the Xbox/PC version now. Not sure which one I'll get but I'm leaning towards the PC one since it comes out so close to the Xbox version.

I'm the original Midnight CLub whore, man....can't wait to play MC3 DUB EDITION on Xbox Live. Still, if they're gonna polish it up a bit I guess I can wait.

NOT LIKE I HAVE ANY CHOICE
