Take Two to buy SEGA?

Nintendo should buy Sega from Sammy just for shits and giggles. I mean Sega is mildly profitable these days right?

It'd be a hillarious turn of events considering how fierce of competitiors the two were just ten years ago. It'd also probably be the only way Sega could regain much of their lost luster, and the Revolution would be signified as the "Nintendo-Sega" super console.

Plus there's still a lot of IPs, and they could farm out Star Fox to Amuzement Vision instead of Namco (way to fuck that up, you Ace Combat bastards).

And for Nintendo, they'd probably have enough dev teams that they really wouldn't need that much third-party support.

Sega is like the slut of the video game world. Everybody is rumored to be buying them at one point or another... Namco, Konami, Nintendo, Capcom, and now Take Two. That bitch sure does get passed around.

If Nintendo bought Sega, Sega could design the console...

Or at least design the friggin' online network.

Even if it uses alien technology and Martian airwaves to link system-to-system.

They could set up some kind of retro service that would let you play old NES/SMS/Genesis/SNES/N64/Saturn/Dreamcast/GameCube software too. That would be cool.

If Take Two wants to take on EA, they need to change their name. Take Two is a stupid name.

Electronic Arts is a stupid name. Art? What art? I've never seen any art from them.

I wouldn't pay this any lip service, it's nothing put pure speculation. On the other hand, SOA hasn't been able to publish worth a crap, so ofcourse they may pass on Sammy's 2 US developed games for Take Two to publish. Take Two doing such a great job publishing the ESPN sports games must've been noticed by somebody within Sega Sammy. I wouldn't mind a Sega/Take Two team up.

BTW, Outrun 2 rocks, made with pure love and respect for the arcade style gameplay, and anybody who says different can kiss my ENTIRE ass. Make two trips while you're at it.

Oh, yeah, for what it's worth, I'd say there's about a 0.000000000001% chance of Take Two actually buying Sega. Sammy won't let it happen. They're downsizing in the US for completely different reasons than what that story was suggesting, though I'm pretty sure a couple of phone calls would've made that totally clear if they'd only bothered.

Every publisher tried to tie-up with SEGA wanted it for one purpose -- SEGA is the #1 distributor or arcade titles. This was pretty much the whole deal why Namco wanted a merger with them(so know,SEGA have been beating Namco to a pulp in the arcade/amusement business).

If you ask me,SEGA should've merged with Namco. The only bad thing about such a thing though,is the fact Tekken and VF would no longer be competitors.

I laugh at the notion of Sega, or any other big, Japanese house, being bought and managed by an American company. Can any of you seriously see that working out?

I'm not looking for an answer.

Sammy might just hold onto so they can post Sega's characters all over slot machines. However, a talk with someone in Sammy Sega says they plan to a lot more

Why would they be downsizing in the U.S. when they say this?

"SEGA is solidifying its presence in its critical North American territory in preparation for the next generation of gaming consoles and the coming fiscal year," said Sega Sammy Holdings.

He's talking about Sammy Studios downsizing. Now they're going to just be a development studio as opposed to the publisher they were.

It's called redundancy. Why have two marketing teams when you only need one? -- That kind of thinking. SOA's side survived most of this because they had the more capable staff. Sammy USA is kinda crap if you hadn't noticed.

Giving Star Fox to the Ace Combat "team" was as inspired as giving F-Zero to AV. The fact that the makers of the greatest console flight combat games off all-time wiffed isn't something you could have predicted. An Ace Combat style game set in the SF universe would have rocked like no other. And given the quotes when this deal was initially announced (Like the need to take Star Fox in a new direction) it seemed like it was at least once in the right direction. They did fuck up, but I'd never call them bastards... cause they can make games like few others in the industry.

Nintendo, Microsoft and Bandai weren't interested in this... they were interested in Sega's character properties, company brand and development teams.

Could it be that they're trimming that Carlsbad Sammy Studios to get it ready for sale?
