Every time I try to take a screenshot (printscreen--->paste) of Windows Media Player I get a black screen. How can I remedy this?

Media Player Classic lets you take snapshots:

Or just do it the old fashioned way. Open up 2 media players, the one you opened first will work with print screen.

tools > options > performance tab > drag video acceleration slider to none

then print screen away

Or, if you don't want all of video accelleration off, just turn off overlays.
