Namco announced that the PS2 RPG Tales of Rebirth will come with an UMD demo of a new PSP title Tales of Melfes, exact details of Tales of Melfes is currently unknown, Tales of Rebirth is scheduled to release in Japan on December 16.

Awesome, Sales + 1

Slightly OT, I may be a bit behind on this, but has ToR been confirmed for distribution in America?

it's something between a milf and an elf. but the "e" at the end makes it more magickal.

Woah, the world engine looks excellent... something tells me this what happened to Tales of Legendia. Can't wait. :)

Wow, I hope that was not just pre-rendered video made to look realtime-ish. The shadows from the clouds on the ground and the world in general looked quite impressive. I guess Namco tapped into those PSP chips like noone else did so far.

i have little tolerance left for jrpgs, but those backgrounds are pretty impressive. looks like one of the first original, big production psp games. the next wave of psp software should be pretty exciting. klonoa next, namco!

I remember you slammed tos, but I knew you would like this one.

they're doing a ds version of xenosaga? jesus. unstoppable force meets immovable object. the result could be the WORST GAME EVER.

Worst game ever huh? You believe what you want to see. Most of the rpgs work on the GBA, so I think there will be no problem with the DS.

*imagines 10 sec loading before every battle*

OH NO!!! :(

And it's a port, it has to be!! ALL PSP games will be PS2 ports I promise yuoooo

That looks nice, been quite disapointed with how RPGs have been looking recently, other genres i think have generally eclipsed them, but for an early PSP rpg the locals look very good.

Good idea with the PSP demo too.

all I see for the DS are 3 ports and 3 low budget puzzle games, not to mention that RR DS isn't even being handle by Namco, the Tales games are one of their flagship titles and Namco's already giving the PSP 2 of them, that pretty much outweighs everything they have for the DS

I'd say giving DS Baten Kaitos and Xenosaga is a pretty big show of support.

Er, I guess that one way of looking at it.

Then again, Namco Museum PSP will most likely be outsorced (like the PS2/GC/Xbox/GBA/N64/DC releases). TOE and Mojipittan are essentially ports. Ridge Racers, while amazing looking, is really a compilation of the old games. Baten Kaitops and Xenosaga are pretty big RPG franchises too... things look pretty even honestly.

Also, Pac'n Roll isn't a so much puzzle game in the classic sense. It uses puzzles, but the levels seem to have a more compelling thrust to them. Unless you'd consider something like Super Monkey Ball or Katamari Damacy to be simple low budget puzzle games?

Baten Kaitos is a big RPG franchise? Based on what?

Melfes looked good from what I saw. WMP sucks so it skipped a little. I thought some of it was obviously FMV.

And is it called Tales of Melfes? All it said at the the end was the name, and no Tales of before it.

Well, 31 seconds in, it does say "The next "Tales" legend is about to begin...".
And it said "Project Melfes" at the end, so maybe Melfes is only temporarily. Which means it could be Tales of Anything. :P

Well, at about 30 tot 34 seconds, you see a line where they state that 'The Next 'Tales' legend is about to begin.'

So that's pretty much a done deal then. ;) <-- Argh! Beaten by Kiriku!

Anyhoo, the trailer looked and sounded awesome! Can't wait to see more of it, and by including it with ToR, Namco may have created a whole new (perhaps sly) way to get someone to buy a PSP.

I'll be shocked if BK can top Skies of Arcadia Legends.
Er, it's shipping with that "200k preordered" sticker isn't it? Nintendo publishing it in Europe insures higher than average sales there too... 500-700k worldwide (lifetime) wouldn't surprise me.

You mean that "best seller" logo that is actually on the box-art insert?
Glad my copy didn't have one of those!

Maybe it was planned first for the Gamecube.

Doubt that... otherwise why in the blue hell is a Xenosaga game being made for the DS and not the PSP instead of the otherway around?

Well, porting a GC game to PSP at this late stage makes some actual sense given their somewhat similar architectures and development environments. The game would a bigger impact on PS2 or PSP than the JP GC market at this point, it actually makes a lot of sense that it was moved.

Also, Monolith evidently really likes DS, hence their handheld properties going there. They likely don't want to spend console level budgets either, we'll probably see 2D DS games from them (like Xenosaga: Pied Piper).

What are these screens/videos/backgrounds/images ppl are talking about? I don't see any at magicbox. URL please.

Interesting.
Tales of Rebirth actually comes with a DVD (not UMD) containing the Melfes movie and its platform hasn't been announced yet. Sure, the video is 16:9, but is that enough to guarantee it's on PSP?

God, Magic Box are such retards. I'm glad you said that, because I was half considering buying Rebirth now just to have something else to stick in my PSP next week. :)
