Life Bottle Productions, who previously translated the PS2 remake Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut, have released a complete English translation patch for the PlayStation 2 version of Tales of Rebirth on the 20th anniversary of its release.

Tales of Rebirth is the sixth mainline or "mothership" title in the series, following Tales of Symphonia. Developed by "Team Desitiny" (the counterpart to Team Symphonia), it maintains the 2D style and Mustumi Inomata designs of earlier titles like Tales of Eternia and Tales of Destiny 2, and adds multiple planes to combat, similar to the Treasure classic Guardian Heroes. Ultimately, Namco declined to bring the game to the US, despite the breakthrough success of Tales of Symphonia, because they feared the 2D visuals would be percieved as dated. The instead opted to localize Tales of Legendia, a departure for the series that is largely regarded as a misstep.

The Tales series has a long history of impressive fan translations dating back to the 2000 translation of Tales of Phantasia by ROM hacking pioneers DeJap. Over the years, almost all of the mainline games in the series have been translated in some form or another, and some even re-translated, with the only remaining title after Rebirth being Tales of Destiny 2, which is currently being translated by Lumina Tales. (The original 2D version of Tales of Hearts has also never been translated, but the loose 3D remake on PSP has.)

Download the patch here. A copy of the original game is required.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
That's dope! I'll have to check this out, seems like a good Steam Deck game.

Can't wait for KUREEEEAAAA

Now if only that fantrad of Hearts DS finally got released as well...
The same group is also working on it, but I don't know how far along it is or what priority. I think Phantasia X and Narikiri Dungeons X are also in the pipe.

Got this patched and working, but I won't be able to really dig in until I get my daughter to bed.

Played a few hours of this last night and today.

I was a huge fan of this series back in the day, from Phantasia onward, and I played every English release, official or unofficial, but Vesperia was the last one that I really loved, and I fell off a lot in the PS3 era. Now it really feels like a different series to me.

So I have to say it's been really nice to go back and play a classic Tales game for the first time. Rebirth feels very in line with Tales of Eternia, which I always had a soft spot for. I can see why some suits might have thought Legendia had more commercial potential but I think that was the wrong decision.
