Tales of Symphonia review (Gamespy)

Nice score. I'll be renting this.

I've already made the reservation and I have my funny little peice of cardboard and hopefully I'll receive an artbook along with the game.

Definitely looking foward to this RPG.

Doesn't look like something I could play for very long.
I'll rent it, and if I like it enough, I'll buy it.

and I am a Nintendo superfan. I am not, however, a Namco superfan.

It is an RPG where the fights are done with action commands sort of like a fighting game. Excellent stuff.

Hmmm. Sounds interesting but I doubt I can even find the time to play games that have long quests. My stack of unfinished or untouched games is getting quite staggering.

I was out of line. You're absolutely right that a 20 hour game as clever and as fun as 4 swords isn't worth the price of admission.

Well, that's kinda harsh...

4 Swords is a really good game, even in single player. I'd hardly call it "kiddy" or anything. It's totally worth buying!

Double Dash, on the other hand, can rot for all I care...

Regardless, I WAS going to get ToS at launch...but the Circuit City deal will keep me busy for a very long time. After ToS, the next two games I wanted don't come until the end of August (Star Ocean 3 and The Room).

well i think if i had a choice of spending 50 on Tales or going out and getting a game I have never played on my PS2 yet - Dark Cloud 2 which I can get for like 20 brand new, I think Dark Cloud 2 would be a far better choice.

Lately Nintendo just hasnt been putting out anything better than the competition. It seems like Microsoft and Sony just always offer something better in the same genre than Nintendo. Its kinda sad.

I don't see how age has anything to do in the name of fun. I'd love to try out 4 Swords but I don't have a GBA nor do I have a single friend that has one. I'll probably get MK:DD when it drops in price because I've gone this long without even playing it.

You should totally give Four Swords a shot, though! It is an extremely fun single player game, believe it or not. It actually controls beautifully and is a blast to play! I also have access to very few GBAs, so multiplay isn't an option for me either. :\

It's not that I don't want to give it a chance but I feel that paying that money for just the single player experience probably won't be worth it to me.

I know Oli said it was a 20 hour game...But how many hours can you get of it if you only play 1p?

. What is amazing is that the framerate is a rock-solid 60 fps, a great bonus in a time when most RPGs are content to chug at 30. I guess that's because most RPGs don't have to worry about having responsive controls for real-time battle systems, whereas Symphonia does. And I'm glad to say it delivers.

Great stuff. Seems like everything is great except for some audio which is however disappointing :(

Shit. I've been in an RPG mood but I used the CC deal to get 2 on PS2. Guess I'll get this at a savings further down the line. Looked repellent art-wise to me in a lot of shots but I've since seen some better scenes and the reviews have been quite good. And someone said something about going after an evil pope.

You forgot driv3r dud3

I'll be the one person that gets to jump in and say four swords single player is pretty meh. I got it, played the first few worlds, haven't touched it since. I figure I'll wait till the school year when I should at least be able to play it two player.

edit: that is unless anyone here lives in Durham/Raleigh NC which is where I am at for the summer and would like to direct me to a friendly gathering of gamers. Please?

Stupid Junior Member.

Can't wait for this game. Sucks that it comes out next week though, as I start my Summer quarter in college next Monday...

I'm going to head over to Gamestop and trade in some games. Hopefully that two trade-ins for $20 off a new game is going at my local shop.

A lot of you people obviously don't know ANYTHING about this game, if you're calling it "kiddy" or saying that it's not that great of an rpg experience....

This is what my circuit city games are getting traded in for. Hot Tales Sex! ...Symphonia sex...not tales..as in tails...
