On the shmup side, what's worth getting. I'll probably pick up ESPgaluda and DoDonPachDaiojou just based on their lineage, but what else? I've got most of the Saikyo collections and the Gigawing Generation pack on other consoles, ditto for Psyvariar 2 and Shikagami No Shiro 2.

GWG is a new game, and is said to be pretty decent if you can get past the 30fps, ugly graphics, and framerate problems.lol) The third Psikyo pack is probably worth picking up for Dragon Blaze if you're a big Psikyo fan. PS2 doesn't have a whole lot of shooter exclusives, so you're probably pretty well off with the list you've got.
There hasn't been an announcement; it just popped up on Play-Asia, and everyone I've sent the link to has preordered. I imagine NCS will list it next, and then we'll get an announcement in...say...June.drohne said:edit: HOLY FUCKING SHIT, when did they announce mushihimesama ps2? i thought that was an april fools' joke on the shmups forum. ibara next, pls. ketsui too.
Now I have 4 games I'm definitely buying for the rest of 2005.source said:thank you for contacting Play-Asia.com.
We have received the information right from Sony's official distributor yesterday late evening. We did not want to wait so posted it right up. We are very sure that the information is correct and expect the game to be announced by Taito shortly.
...
For your further information, Mushihimesama already has a Sony catalogue number (which is SLPM-66056). The game will be a DVD release supporting 1-2 players with a Japanese recommended price tag of Y5,800.
No word on an Ibara port or what G.Rev will be doing next. I'd imagine we'll have to wait at least six months to a year for news on either. The End said:Not to bump, but any word on what G.Rev is up to after Senkou no Ronde?
Border Down would be a perfect fit on the PSP.

Play-Asia always know exactly when to milk a game for all they can.The End said:Shmup fans are just insane. DoDonPachi and ZanacXZanac for the PS1 just got back in stock at Play-Asia, but they're $109 each. jesus.
drohne said:geekdom is more of an inverted mountain, and if shmups fans are at the peak then they're really at the bottom. honestly some of the shmup arguments i've seen make gaf seem worldly, reasonable, and mild. vicious tate vs. yoko disputes, weird anime fetishes, console politics, video output minuteae (no offense, but while i can see the difference between true low-res and filtered output, i can't imagine why anyone cares). we aren't monks or scholars. we're just big dorks.

Shmups have become such a niche genre that the devs that cater to us have no incentive to make their games accessible anymore. When something like Gradius V which isn't particularly hard by shmup standards is slammed so hard for its difficulty, it becomes clear the our little niche is never making a comeback.

That's still a really cool shirt though. I thought i'd ruin my tv forever everytime i tried that for ikaruga for GC. The colors would get all screwy, but after hitting the set a bit it would go back to normal.evil ways said:I thought this was gonna be about Shinobi.
I don't think the problem is so much hoarding as supply not meeting demand. Community- (sometimes over-) inflated demand causes prices to shoot up when there are only so many copies of these games to go around. Of course, aftermarket opportunists are also to blame. I don't think any of the prices on rare shooters are caused by people trying to be exclusive, though.FortNinety said:I'm just annoyed that something that should be enjoyed by the masses are somewhat horded by its fans. Then again, I know lots of shooters have very small print runs, but still... I still believe fans could do more to get more people into their interest. It's healthier that way.
