I just got back from the (nationwide, so you had no excuses :p) sneak preview of Team America. Good news: The movie rocked, the funniest film I've seen this year, without a doubt. Bad news: there was one empty seat in the theater ;) I'm sure some of you saw it, what'd ya think?

America, FUCK YEAH

Maybe I should do some better spoilers :p

The scene where the main character threw up in the alleyway....Man, how did they fit all of that in the puppet? :D The whole place went crazy during that scene....rightfully so, it was hilarious. The training montage was great, Trey and Matt did an awesome job just taking to every action movie cliche.

This film has no bias...It shouldn't attract any attention about a liberal/conservative bias, just that it's a funny movie. These guys go after anyone, I hope the media doesn't waste too much time talking about the wrong things. Although I guess any press is good press...

The team America theme was great, as was the score. It felt just like a Michael Bay film.....only with puppets, and mocking Michael Bay films.

I didn't check, or I don't remember. ;) His score wasn't in, but I think he must have helped with some of the songs.

Man, that ending with (Obviously don't look here if you don't want to be spoiler, you idiot)
Cockroach Kim Jong Il climbing into the spaceship
was great. So many great moments...
The dicks/pussies/assholes speech was (I'm running out of adjectives) Fucking awesome

I just came back from the Sneak Peek as well. Packed house. Great film.

This film is probably the best parody of the action genre ever put on celluoid. The only problem is that it plays it straight for the most part; the whole gag being puppets doing exactly what we see in a post-80s Hollywood action flick. Why is that a problem? Well the flick is hilarious, but it follows the structure of a generic Hollywood action flick. In the end, it doesn't seem as polished as South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut and I think that is a flaw with the generic Hollywood action flick rather than Matt and Trey's comedy epic.

There is some stuff I'll never know how they got away with, but they did. The film is hilarious from start to finish. This is also one of their best musical efforts. The Team America theme song is so wonderfully addictive.

Will you like this movie? You should! ... if you like South Park, that is. I know there are some that hate South Park and if you hate South Park, you might want to give this a pass too.

What you get here is a 90 minute, R-rated version of South Park in the form of a generic Hollywood action flick with none of the South Park characters.

It's fan-fucking-tastic. Totally surprising. Or as Spotswood might say, "JESUS TITTY FUCKING CHRIST was that a good film!"

Oh and since we're doing the spoilers...

I thought Gary vomitting in the alley was one of the funniest things ever. In the history of film. Stop the Oscars, because we have a winner! Another personal favorite was the PEARL HABOR tune and the MONTAGE (WE NEED A MONTAGE!).

HOWEVER...

... The crowd favorite was definitely the DEADLY PANTHERS aka domesticate housecats bit.

My God, this movie was brilliant.

I have to disagree with you Wilco: as much as I love South Park: BLU, Team America is far more polished, insightful, accessible, and straight up muh fuggin' hilarious.

This is the definition of a "word of mouth" film. I could see its numbers increasing in the second week due to amazing audience feedback (if my theatre is at all a reflection of the national)...

I don't remember the last time I laughed this hard in a movie, and I am one tough critic.

It might be more of the latter, but it's definitely not more polished than South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut. It's just not.

They were still working on the final cut as late as five days ago, with the score not even finished until last Monday and it definitely shows.

It could use another week or so of post-production.

what exactly is a 'sneak preview'

You're serious? I'm shocked that you haven't heard of them. One or two weeks before some movies come out, they advertise "sneak" or "advance" screenings. Usually a one shot thing....It helps spread word of mouth about the movie in a huge marketplace.

I'm glad Willco shares my thoughts about the barfing. :D

About the montage
The words were ripped nearly 100% from a South Park episode (crap, I forget the name of the ep) Still a great joke, and it's good everyone gets to see it...I'm just saying :p

See, I'm a strong believer in the age old adage that goes something like this: "With greater resistance, greater art."

It seems to me that the stubborn and scurrilous puppets forced Stone and Parker to hone their comedy, and really analyze what jokes and what moments were worth the time and effort (the puppets were much more demanding than the purposely cheapish South Park style).

Also, I think the script's simply much stronger. I think it gets its ideas across better, its humor and satire are sharper, and hell, the action-puppetry is brilliant.

I had no idea the film was rushed to previews when I saw it tonight, and no one else besides those scouring internet forums and reading obscure news stories will either -- it just oozes with care and cleverness.

At least we can both agree that
Pearl Harbor sucked a little more than we loved it.

God, that was cheeky sap on my part. Ha.

I always thought it was like the first 10 minutes of a film or something.

So when an ad says there's going to be a sneak preview on Wednesday, will my theater list it in the show list on wednesday, or something?

Most likely, although massive sneak previews like these (unlike unlisted test screenings or media screenings) will probably be on a saturday (or friday)

This Team America showing...I'm not exactly sure when they announced it, but it was listed at the theaters, and you could buy your tickets online, or in person...just like any movie.

Man this is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. The DVD should be great. They had to cut out a lot of stuff to get an R rating.

If you stick through the credits there is a new song that has Kim Jong Il explaining how he's from another planet where there are cockroaches and bees at war and he came to earth to get away from it. Pretty funny stuff. I heard they had to cut out a pearl necklace and a cleveland steamer from the sex scene.
