Team Ninja developing for PS3 and/or Revolution?

In a recent interview, Team Ninja head Tomonobu Itagaki dropped a slight hint, suggesting that Tecmo’s prized developing team might be working on a game for the PS3 or the Nintendo Revolution:

“You’ve been a big supporter of Xbox and, from what we hear, will be heavily behind Xbox 2 as well. Do you have any plans to make games for PS3 or Nintendo Revolution?”

Itagaki: “I should be able to talk about that soon. I promise.”

Yeah, that is pretty old.

That said, I'm quite sure Team Ninja is developing on the PS3. I'm not sure about the Revolution.

DOA4 Hardcore? DOA3 Hardcore was rumored to be headed to GameCube at one point. Also, Ninja Gaiden started out on PS2 iirc. Itagaki's oversseing Rygar 2, which is PS2 bound this winter I think.

I expect PS3 might recieve after the fact ports of Team Ninja's big Xenon stuff (DOA4, NG2, etc). Revolution might get something novel based on it's unique interfaces, probably with lots 'a boobies. Itagaki's DS enthusiasm is a good sign.

I won't buy this rumour until GameSpot reports that Itagaki is indeed developing a title for PS3.
I'd kill for a Ninja Gaiden: Gore on PS3.

Let's put it this way: Team Ninja is known for favoring the most powerful hardware available. If they still hold this philosophy, there's no way they won't be on the PS3 (aside from some external force keeping them from it, such as a gigantic moneyhat or something).

Let's put it this way: Team Ninja favoring the most powerful hardware was nothing but Itagaki's PR excuse for Microsoft funded Xbox support. In fact, it's never been an issue except when concerning Xbox. Just look at Team Ninja favoring Saturn over PS1, DC/Naomi over PS2/246 or now DS over PSP. Expect Xbox 360 to get priority over PS3/Rev now too.

You mean like MS. If MS is smart then they'll build Itagaki some nice Golden Dojo for keeping him on 360 A-exclusive.

Yes, head ninja master was very VOCAL this generation about the fact that they would only develop games for the most powerful hardware... it'll be interesting to see if that holds true next gen... or if his definition for most powerful changes...

I wouldn't be suprised if Tecmo and Team Ninja start looking at the PS3 and/or Revolution as their primary platforms next-generation (at least before the Xbox2). Between that statement about developing for the most powerful system, the Xbox's failure in Japan, and the recent weak sales of their games in the US, I don't see a benefit with sticking with MS any longer... besides the MS-brand head-appearal.

I think he just meant, in terms of power, he wanted to develop on the system that offered an advantage visually...not whether the system had the best specs. This gen, XBOX offers more than the other two. Next-gen, there's not going to be the gulf of difference between the systems, visually, that there was this gen. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Team Ninja do Revolution over PS3 when considering which other platform to support other than the X360.

I think he can’t able to talk about that because on E3 Microsoft will announce Team Ninja exclusive for X360.

Games for NRV and PS3 will stay on dreams!

Naw... there was a wider gulf between Saturn & PSone than the current consoles, yet Saturn got priority and N64 was avoided all together (despite Acclaim offering to foot the bill for a DOA 64 port). The largest graphics disparity ever looks to be between DS and PSP but guess where Itagaki's game is going. Xbox wasn't a dramatically huge increase over PS2/GC, Itagaki just needed a concrete reason for backing a dog in Japan. Besides moneyhats.

Team Ninja and Tecmo as a whole have a great relationship with MS, im sure TN will be devoting most of thier time to Xbox 360. PS3 will get some loving too, but from Team Ninja? Probably

Moneyhats. Makes the gaming world go-'round. And, really, Team Ninja backing XBOX was the best thing that happened to them. They basically got to build a rep, an audience, and make some damned fine games that sold well because they focused on a less crowded platform. On the PS2, they probably would've been overlooked if the the interest in DOA2 Hardcore is any indication.

I think everyone should know by now that the motives behind TN supporting Xbox were ultimately financially motivated. All of the excuses these companies give are always BS. Just like Capcoms excuse for Resi evil on GC and Oddworlds excuse for switching from PS2 to XB and Namcos excuse for making SC3 PS2 exclusive. The list goes forever on....

Whatever Team Ninja does and whichever console Mr. Itagaki decides to put the sequel to Ninja Gaiden on im there. Regardless of price, controller size, console shape and eyecandy output specs :D

Well with Resident Evil it also had to do with Mikami's never ending hate for the PS2.

Yeah. And I think Lanning started to hate the PS2 as well once the phat check cleared :lol

Keep telling yourself that..

Where is Axsider? Maybe this the "old friend" he was talking about coming back to Sony :)
Er, except Team Ninja and Sony have never really been close with DOA always premiering on Sega hardware. My bet's on Mikami's next game at Clover going to PS2 or PS3.

I hope so. I hold Mikami way higher than Itagaki :)

Awwwww shit we got another insider in the house!

I'm really getting sick of all these junior members coming in and claiming about how their brother's best-friend's cousin's boyfriend who works for some major development house can't stop talking about (playstation 3 / xbox 360) and how awesome it is and how it will own all other consoles this generation. Can we make this a bannable offense or something?

I am an industry insider. This is my bucket of crap.

"Hello, industry insider. Please start a thread on Gaming-Age."

No inside information. It's just funny to hear the same thing from the XBox fanboys. No developer will EVER leave M$, but they may be able to steal others..

Give me a break. If Team Ninja wants to develop for the best hardware as they are always saying, it won't be the 360. It's just that simple. But maybe, just maybe, they are just a hypocritical as M$. Personally, I expect M$ to lock them up. They are good at locking up worthless developers ...

In the next-gen Team Ninja games, the breasts will look REAL!! :lol

What's unfortunate is the number of gamers that seem to appreciate such people for their "honesty".

2 weeks - a lot of these guys have hinted promises coming due at E3. There definitely should be some spring cleaning if their gossip-mongering doesn't deliver.

I just realized, there hasn't been a flood of new junior members doing this ... just you. You're incapacity to write "Microsoft" as anything other than the clever "M$" is a dead giveaway. Why don't you just go back to slashdot and engage in the mutual jerkfest of a Microsoft thread over there instead of continuing your anti-Microsoft crusade on this board? Oh well, at least it's another name to put on the "ignore" list.

Please just shut up. All you do is moan about Microsoft. Fucking hell

Oh yea! Axsider and Massive Attack better deliver. I am expecting Warkhawk 2 and some PS3 stuff. I don't think RE5 will be there though.

I believe that too.
More over I think Itagaki jumped to the Xbox mainly because he saw the opportunity to be considered a key player of the platform and receive all the attention and admiration of the platform's supporters.
On the PS2 he would have been considered only a little fish because of the heavy competition from the others major japanese developers. And surely he was convinced of that when he took a look at the Doa2 sales which paled in comparison to Tekken Tag sales.
In the next generation however he won't have to downgrade or deal with the same technical difficulties caused by PS2 developent to bring his games on the PS3 so I expect him to port Doa and friends also on other platforms albeit the main focus will remain Xbox360.

agreed! There are enough xbots on this forum already. Having a couple of hardcore Psyborgs wouldn't hurt either, it balances the forum.

BTW firestorm did u get DC 7? Wanna play now?

Yep its working, I was playing earlier on but it had alot of slow down for some reason. My ping was fine though. Maybe it'll run properly this time. I'm ready to play.

Yeah DC is heavy on the tech side, turn down the sound settings. Select 22 KHz, Hardware Acceleration. that should kill the slowdown.

Get on DC++

Frankly I can count one or two hardcore Psyborgs, a serious gang of Xbots and a whole lot of N-bots here.

Sony = underfanboyed if I can coin such a word :lol

Market leaders have less need for fanboys ;)

It's true..if your favoured system is PS2, you're probably not going to be as "defensive" or as argumentative as people who prefer other platforms..

When it comes to next gen discussion, though, more people row in behind them more rigorously than usual, because suddenly we're discussing the future, where anything is technically possible, and there's the chance their favoured system won't be "the winner" anymore (however slim that might be). I guess such "fanboys" are invisible most of the time, but brought out of the woodwork round times like this..

Sony has just as many fanboys as the other consoles, trust me on this. Thing is that fanboyishness only rears its head when the fanboy feels threatened and gets the needs to prove something. The PSP vs DS spats and Forza vs GT4 battle royale proves this. As well as past GAF history.. N64 fans morphed into GC fanboys as soon as they got the hope of seriously competing for the lead. Rampant DC fanboys became cool posters after Sega hardware was finally laid to rest (well other than those who disappeared or went Opa-Age only).

Edit: And oh lord the PS2 vs DC pic warz killed a few GAF forums before the PS2 pulled away to a comfortable lead.

In any case Itagaki has crafted a loyal userbase out of the Xbox and it would be a not very smart thing for him to abandon that and his moneyhats. Also considering how heavily he pushes online content I imagine how Sony and Nintendo online plans stack up to Live (which Itagaki likes) will be a huge factor and is PR fodder he can latch onto to justify sticking with MS tech support/audience/ and moneyhats.

The Japanese games market is not all that important anymore even for Japanese devs.
